love the series? You will love this!
14 December 2024
This is made specially for those who have watched the series, because i watch with my mom who never watch the tv show, she understand nothing lol haha. Someone comment about the unrealistic fighting scene choreography because a schoolboy should not have that specific fighting martial skill they say, it is a fiction that is just for fun anyway. Why don't comment about all the six pack teen in this movies, they have the time to go to the gym while studying so hard in swim or drown school system in Malaysia? That's why all the answer is this is just a fiction anyway, unless there is a plot hole. There is a scene that can make you laugh, there is a scene that can make you shed tear a bit. It is good, fun movie. A good quality writing and directing from Malaysian.

The Experts (2024)
Too hollywood
6 August 2024
If you have watch a lot of hollywood heist movie, you have already know everything. The acting is good, the story is just too cliche and hollywood-ish. They should just add some element of local like some subtle traditional sense or anything to make it still looks local. I understand that from malaysian cinema perspective, this is a very good movie, good budget wise, good technicality, good acting, nice action and everything. Only lack of local mis-en-scene, it just looks to hollywood and can be considered as Grade B hollywood movie. I think they should just learn from korean or hong kong cinema where there is a lot of stuff there that make us know that this is korea, this is Hong Kong, no one can replicate it. Malaysian must have that too, dont just make another "hollywood" movie.

Kill (I) (2023)
Yes, The Raid but Indian
25 July 2024
We, the fans of famous action stylish of Gareth Evan's masterpiece, have been waiting for a long long time for any movie that at least can be par with the level of The Raid duology. Since Indonesian looks like not interested anymore in making action movie and now focusing on countless of horror movies. We do not expect that this kind of movie will come from, India!. To make the Raid kind of movie, you just need a simple premise, one location, one man army and a group of villains. And you need to keep up the level like a video game, the villain keep getting stronger and stronger until the final fight. That's it. That's the formula. Anyone can make it. But the style, the vibe, it's not that easy.

Two Word : Pure Fun
25 July 2024
If you guys already love Deadpool one and Deadpool two, you will be surely love this one! Lets say they just multiply the action sequences by three!

If you want to be a professional film critic and talk about all heavy and technicality stuff it is up to you. But if you want to enjoy and have a good time. This is the kind of the movie that you need to watch.

Oh, I cannot complaint anything about the nice shocking cameo and everything. Everything is pure fun and make you want to re-watching this movie a lot of time. Ok, what are you still looking for? Buy the ticket for you and your whole family and go have fun!

I love the trilogy but....
14 July 2024
...it is too long. They drag a lot of thing to make it longer. We know Takashi Miike is an experienced director but he likes to take a lot of unnecessary shot and decided to insert it all in the final cut. We love all the characters, a lot of illogical japanese thing that happen. But they need to watch their pace. The comedy is still there but yeah I feel like I want to fall asleep a lot of time. Is it worth watching? Well, if you love the first and the second one, of course you need to watch this one. It is the final anyway, it is a fun ride to watch Kikukawa Reiji's journey in the world of undercover cop. Have fun.

Expect nothing
24 June 2024
I think I never really watch a lot of Vietnamese film in my life, when this movie release on streaming service, I never really interested to watch it, but when all the hype rising about how good this movie is, I just watch, want to try Vietnamese cinema. I think what is strong from this movie is the female lead, she is so incredibly beautiful, you cannot take eyes off her. Then the story is riveting, it keep you on the edge of your seat, wondering what will happen next. I think the story move very smoothly, all the characters are interesting enough to keep your interest. Especially Phuong Anh Dao, I watch a lot of movie but I think I never seen any actress that is so breathtaking like her, I'm gonna start marathon Vietnamese cinema, dig in a bit what's good they have.

From a country bumpkin's perspective
19 February 2024
1. It is a liberal vs conservative thinking kind of movie, which is never really sell well in Malaysia. Malaysian love high-octane action and horror movies.

2. So, the film maker must know this, and they make this movie for the sake of to share their own thinking to Malaysian. Not to make money.

3. And yeah this movie bombed in the cinema, so people only notice after its release on Netflix, and the critics start to come, whether they hate or love it.

4. This movie have a lot of hollywood influence, things that does not exist in Malaysia. Town cop? Gun? Woke culture term? They maybe exist in the city but in the humble village? No. But it is fiction anyway, so its still looks creative and fun.

5. The storyline is good but movie critics keep talking about Tok Hassan but they forget about Ustaz Fauzi.

6. Even though I don't really agree with this film's attention. The production is top notch, acting is great, cinematography is awesome and I love it.

7. Maybe any person who hates this kind of film need to make a film that fight this idea. Malaysia is a peaceful country. You can always make movies.

8. From malaysian standard , this is for adult only. Every old man & old "makcik" in my village will critic this. Or their busy with their paddy field and farm.

Marriage Blue (2013)
Don Lee as a flower arranger.
22 January 2024
I watched Marriage Blue because Don Lee was in it, without knowing anything about the film's synopsis. For me, the storyline was decent, but there were a few characters whose actions I'm sure some viewers wouldn't like and would disagree with. In my opinion, humans are imperfect, and a film should highlight things that viewers may not agree with to stand out. However, I could still guess the storyline, but I was captivated by the excellent acting and interesting characters. It's a different side of Don Lee for those following his career. You will be shocked that he do not punch any people here.

Mat Kilau is better.
22 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I went to watch without any big expectations because I heard about the issues behind the scenes and the early negative reviews that dampened my enthusiasm a bit. Since this is a continuation of Mat Kilau with Awang taking the lead, I feel the storyline is the same as Mat Kilau's, just with different characters.

The attempt to recreate the scene of Ellie Suriaty with Dian P Ramlee is fail. Before, I was moved by Ellie, but now it feels too rushed and lacking character development. My mom and sister cried watching Dian's scene, but this time it just didn't have the same impact for me.

It's a real waste not to fully utilize Amerul Affendi's character; I think he played the coolest villain. Wak Ruzaidi, even though he's old, still stands tall like Sylvester Stallone.

I feel that in the history of Malaysian cinema, this film has the most scenes of people saying "takbir" (praise to God), which is good. They get blessings. However, sometimes it feels out of place.

Due to the fans/haters' feedback about shaky cameras, there is no shaky camera this time. The fight scenes are still as engaging as the first.

Many criticize Fattah Amin's acting. I agree; he lacks the aura that Adi Putra has. His acting is okay, but that X-factor that Adi Putra has is missing.

My mom and sister like the film because it has a female warrior character; they feel proud (feminist power, hehe).

I feel sorry for John Bear's character getting beaten badly; he does not even have any dialogue at all.

Some extras have modern looks, all clean-shaven, which doesn't feel right. To find extras, they should look for true Malay faces like Namron, Wan Hanafi Su, Amerul Affendi - explore a bit throughout Malaysia I suggest.

The first Mat Kilau was good because of Syamsul Yusof's experienced direction in making box office films and knowing what the audience wants. Kembara Studios already has a template, but they couldn't find the right director for Awang. It's a waste of budget when the job can't be executed properly, with continuity issues, lack of dramatic scene, and suspense (like Adi Putra closing Beto's mouth). For the next film, they should consider Syamsul, Syafiq or Ghaz as the director. There are plenty who can do it, I believe.

Here we go again
24 December 2023
Click my profile, you can read my previous review about superheroes movie. Because I am quite disappointed with all the latest superheroes movie lately, I just hope that Aquaman will be better because to be honest I love the first one. And... here we go again, cliche and formulaic. The playsafe storyline. The villain wants to destroy the world. The heroes come to save the world. Obviously it is the typical theme of every superheroes movie but at least you guys can execute it differently. I don't know, obviously this guy know better. I think I'm gonna hold myself from watching supe movie again, gonna rewatch Breaking Bad for entertaining storyline. Or just hire Vince Gilligan to write your new supe movie and dont let anyone interfere with creative different.

the worst insidious
9 July 2023
I love this franchise, love it since the first one. But, looks like James Wan have no idea anymore and just want to milking the franchise. It's not fair for the long time fans because we have seen everything. This one is totally like the first one but just with the old Dalton. Come on James Wan, you are better than this. I love "The Malignant" and "Megan", should stop with this Insidious series because you guys totally have no fresh idea anymore. I suggest you guys just use the paranormal investigator buddy as a standalone movie, they are the only best part from this movie. If you never watch the previous Insidious, you might like this one.

Fast X (2023)
never interested
20 May 2023
I watched every fast & furious series, the best one is F7 and that rio part. After watching Fast 9, I thought that's it, never gonna bother to watch this again, it just become a cartoon show where a lot of illogical fantasy stuff happen. Honestly, I never intend to watch this Fast X but my friends invited me so I thought why not? But, it is a worst experience, thank God Jason Momoa save the show, his character is so fun to watch. This kind of playful and witty antagonist. The worst thing is the story is still similar, it is the same old story that you have watch since Fast 7. They should stop and make other brand new movie. Stop milking the franchise.

I watched too much superheroes movies!
19 March 2023
Because I watched too much superheroes movies, there is nothing new anymore in this movie. I can like predict every little single thing that is gonna happen. I think this superheroes vs villain plot is already overused in Hollywood. They need to come up with something new, I love "Super", "Kick-Ass", "The Boys", "Invincible","Brightburn" & "Peacemaker". This family oriented superheroes movie that we have watched a ton of them is not gonna work anymore. Thank God DC hired James Gunn to re-work DC superheroes, if not, there will be a lot of cliche like this come out again. He should help marvel too, because ant-man is kind of similar cliche too. Why I gave 7? Because it is still fun, but come on, it is not good.

Need to read the novel to understand
5 March 2023
I have the novel, I bought it long long time ago after I heard that there is a movie adaptation is coming soon. I plan to read the novel first before watching this movie. As time goes by, I'm surely read a tons of books but not this one, so after this movie is release a few days ago, I'm in dilemma. Whether to read the novel first or just watch this movie. Because the novel is quite thick and I have a lot of things to do in my own life. So I just watch the movie first, I will read the novel later (maybe months, years later I guess haha). What can I say, I guess the director and the screenwriter tried their best to include all the important stuff or scene from the novel, they ended up pack it too much and we moviegoer who never read the novel might find it hard to understand what is going on actually. I think if they just focus on M. Nasir VS Faizal Hussein issue, it will be better. But instead, to stay faithful on the original novel I guess, it became quite a chaos. I think novel like this that have a lot of important scene will be better if they adapt to miniseries. With movie, you don't have much time unless the novel just have 1 straight mission to follow. Looks like I need to read the novel to understand this movie better. What I don't like is the background music is too ambitious and loud, totally not really corresponding with the scene. The music tries to sound epic but the scene is just "not so much" to be par with. Another thing is the extras character, totally can't act and quite ruin this movie. Also the misplaced C. G. I that looks weird. I guess due the to lack of budget, the director can't do much to make this movie better. However, still is an interesting movie that quite disappointed at some area.

Too much CGI but still fun
16 February 2023
I do not know , I feel it lacks some humanity, maybe because there is too much computer-generated-image (C. G. I) visual that makes this movie looks like more "cartoon" than a live-action movie. I love "Ant-Man 1" and "Ant-Man and the Wasp 2", I can watch both movie a lot of time, its so fun and exciting. But this one? I do not know why, too much computer-generated-image (C. G. I) visual make it lacks something. More modern our times, more weirder our movie looks like. We still need the touch of humanity and natural background, I respect the actor and actress who struggle with the green and blue stuff to appreciate their character (they get paid well too), but yeah, too much C. G. I.

improvement of malaysian military movie era
6 February 2023
Since PASKAL, who somehow become the trend setter for this kind of movie, a handful of military movie have come out to the cinema. Its good compared to tons of horror and romance movies that does not really works anymore. Malaysian rarely make a military movies so there is a lot to explore in this genre. Another thing this coast guard production need to learn is how to make a good trailer, they know how to make a good movie but not its trailer. After I watch the trailer, totally not interested at all to watch because looks like low budget military movies. But, after some reviewer inform how good and radical this movie is, yeah, I give it a try and its totally worth watching. New gen in malaysian cinema, keep coming guys. Al fatihah to the director.

what more to improve
22 January 2023
I am Sabri Yunus's fan, become his fan after fall in love with Pok Ya Cong Codei series and Butak. When this movie is announced, I have a big expectation because Butak is great. So I hope Duan is better. But, if you already watch a lot of his work that involve Kelantanese traditional play and gangsterisme. Yeah, its the same thing. The idea is good but the execution is still at the level of his television's work. For example, this movie have a lot of fighting scene. I know this production maybe cannot afford Yayan Ruhian, Iko Uwais and Cecep Arif Rahman coreography but we have Areel Abu Bakar who make quite similar international level action in Geran so you can use him for fighting action sequence. The other problem is, too many character, for those who never watch Sabri Yunus's television work, might feel why he include so many people. But I understand because all of them is his regular cast, I think its quite unnecessary because movie is one-shot so you need to focus on the main character and main storyline. However, I still like it but I guess kelantanese will love this movie more. If Kelantan have cinema, this movie will be surely box office there.

annoying chika
17 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I love the live action adaptation, except Chika. She just wanna be like the anime version, when it is animated, it looks okay, but when they did the similar thing in live action. Wow, I feel it sounds really weird because it is surely does not exist in real life. Maybe because I am not japanese so I cannot withstand this, I really love Chika's character in anime version, but its totally not working when the did the exact same thing. Its like, where is the humanity? Live action need human touch, maybe not 100% because it is a fiction but at least tone it down it can be a little bit better. Poor Chika, I guess it will be better if they dont use the formula of beautiful main actress with average looking supporting character. By the way, Hayasaka & Kashiwagi is prettier in live action.

Mako (2021)
confused
22 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
They are confused, whether they want to make story about documentary team issue, marriage issue, ship mystery issue or creature feature? They have a lot of idea in their mind but they cant connected it well. The poster looks like a typical killer shark movie, but they want to add a lot of stuff to create drama and everything it became kind of confusing. Looks like the shark is only some uninteresting subplot. They should stick to one direction, if you want to make movie about killer shark, just focus to killer shark from the start. This egyptian film maker need to watch a ton of creature feature movie from hollywood to learn something. Its like watching a soap opera drama where 2 woman want the same man, but suddenly shark attack them all, the shark are just side character. Like during filming, they thought "Why dont we add some shark?".

Lookism (2022– )
Never read the manhwa
13 December 2022
Usually my rating for anime adaptation is a bit low because I have read the source material and did not like the adaptation. But this one is good, at first episode I think this is a bit cliche about over-bullying stuff and protagonist rise up to fight back. But I guess this is just slice of life of everyday protagonist life in a new body. Looks like if you are not good looking, you must be good at something to be appreciated. Good looking person have naturally take granted for all the praise they can have. That is the message from the whole story, for case that is really happen in this world. Good looking person always have the privilege, that is the way our world is.

Qodrat (2022)
Cliche Qodrat
5 December 2022
Indonesia do too much horror movie, until we know already what will happen next. The different that Qodrat offer is the fighting scene, out of nowhere suddenly Qodrat perform martial art like what you saw in The Raid Redemption or Night Come For Us. Other than that, it is all regular possessed scene, countless jumpscare and everything you ever know from indonesian horror. All the cast did their best, especially the actress. The cinematography is beautiful, some remote hometown at seaside. There is till 100 word to fill, who come up with this required characters, I have no idea what to write, oh yeah, this movie is quite scary, even though its cliche, its still scary. Enjoy.

Too childish
20 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I think the first and second one is better, this third one looks too simple and childish. I mean they do not even explain why the betrayal happen. It just happen. The antagonist character by malaysian popular comedian Johan Raja Lawak looks too childish, he is the one who is giving a lot of punchline but a lot of miss than hit. He is too over-acting I guess, trying too hard to make us laugh and I think it is only works on children. I understand this is comedy movie, but they forget that this is an action comedy, so situational comedy in combat or fighting scene I think will works out better than verbal comedy. You know what, the funniest character is AC Mizal, he plays his character well with funny body manner and everything. Abang Long Fadil 4 is gonna be a sequel no one needed. You are talented Mr Syafiq (I love SAM, Desolasi & Misteri Delaila), you should make new original thriller movie. Keep up the good work.

unexpected from Park Chan Wook
4 October 2022
I love all of his movie before this, I dont know why, maybe this time he want to experimenting a bit. If this is not directed by him, it will be just another korean movie. But, because he is the director, audience try to make excuse, try to dig deep to make sure this is one of his masterpiece. Personally, for me, this is not. He try to do something different but cop fall for a suspect troupe is so cliche so nothing new. This movie seems so draggy, slow pacing and everything. Not the best work from him. And I have 80 more characters to write, since when IMDB have this rules? The ambience and background of this movie is cool.

detective war
24 July 2022
I dunno cantonese but the meaning of the original title is Detective War which is far better than official english title, Detective VS Sleuth, really? Sleuth? Never heard people use that word.

For this movie, I guess it is too rushing, too many characters, and too chaos. I understand the director dont want to waste any time, he just want us to become breathless all the time watching this movie. Maybe if he give us some drama so we can take our breath. Or maybe I am too old to watch this movie, everything happen so fast...

Malaysia have a lot of brave history fight for independence but we keep doing horror and comedy movie. Thanks to Dali brothers we can see this kind of movie in the cinema. Even though it is not too historical, just full of action pack with a glimpse of history. Its nice to have this kind of movie sometimes. Hope more to come.
