Taking a trip down memory lane 30+ years later yap, yap, yapping just isnt the same as raw footage and interviews and this is why you get the spirit of a scene from Decline of Western Civilization while Salad Days is people trying to remember their youth, many with rose colored glasses, and telling you what they can remember
Ghost Dog: The way of the samurai is an adaptation of Jean-Pierre Melville's Le Samouraï(1967). The movie is modernized set in New York and has not much more than a late 90's rap video has to offer. The movie is best viewed as a documentary on what was trendy in 1999, but on the other hand it would not hurt to miss this movie entirely.
If you are a fan of the story, read the non-fictional account of what really went on. It is certainly interesting and could have been made into an even better movie. A few questions and a point. Is it necessary for Russians and German's to speak English throughout the movie? Major Konig's real life name is Col. Thornwald. why hide his name?
You should note the crew did a fine job of recreating planes that are no longer in existence, also a believable war torn Russia.
