Just watched this.
Nepotism issues aside (Ishana Night Shyamalan does her directing debut here), I think some of the other reviews are a bit too harsh about this movie.
Sure, it's no masterpiece but for a first movie by a 25-year old director, I thought it was pretty impressive visually, and it builds a solid atmospheric mystery in its first half.
The third act is definitely wobbly but frankly, overall The Watchers is a much more entertaining movie than M. Night Shyamalan's latest disaster, "Trap" (that one was by far the worst movie I've seen this year).
I just loved the folklore it's based on, and as apparently the book by A. M. Shine has a better ending, I just ordered it (along with its sequel "Stay In The Light", published days ago in October 2024) to carry on exploring that world.
The movie is good enough to spend 102 minutes and kept me engaged enough, despite some plot holes that didn't bother me that much.
"Trap" on the other end was so atrociously bad that I have more faith in Ishana's skills than in her father's. It will be interesting to see what she does next...

Let me be clear: I'd give the first Joker movie a 8/10 rating. It was edgy, daring, shocking, memorable.
I absolutely LOVE Gaga and musicals in general, so I was super excited for the sequel ever since it was announced.
We travelled out of town to go to the biggest, loudest screen we could find to watch this.
What a crushing disappointment. Basically NOTHING happens for 2 hours and 20 minutes.
Don't get me wrong, the acting is good from both Phoenix and Gaga - they get 1 star each, hence my 2/10 score. The problem is the most boring script, I don't know what they were thinking. I kept waiting for anything to happen to even remotely match the intensity of the first movie. I'm still waiting.
Sadly this didn't work for me at all!

The Substance is the most insane and best movie I've seen in at least 10 years.
Do yourself a favour and run to the cinema to see this, and you'll thank me later.
Absolutely crazy, I've never, EVER seen anything like it.
Demi Moore deserves an Oscar for this!
I can't stop thinking about it. Hilarious and horrifying at the same time.
With a strong mix of influences from The Shining, Carrie, The Fly, The Thing, 2001 and many more classics, The Substance delivers a dark comedy/horror/sci-fi experience that HAS to be seen in a cinema with a big crowd.
I've seen it twice already and I'm still buzzing about it. It's already in my top 3 horror movies of all time.
Beautifully horrible. Don't miss it, really!! Not just a movie, it's an experience you'll never forget.
