Conclave is a fine movie with excellent performances by all the actors involved. The ending of the film was telegraphed early on, so there was not so much of a surprise by the final selection of the next Pope. However, the final twist seemed unnecessary. There did not seem to be a sufficient build-up to it, that made it feel like a genuine twist, but was more of an add-on. Beyond that, the drama between all the main candidates was compelling, though I thought the conservative Italian was more of a caricature for them to use as a foil, rather than a standout on his own. There are some interesting visuals and uses of color that I did not expect. I'm sure this will be an Oscar contender, but I'm not sure it has the depth to actually win anything.
I have not watched this movie since I was a teenager in the 80s. Rewatching it was a nice diversion for the evening.
The Black Hole suffers from an identity crisis. It seems like Disney took what could have been a serious sci-fi/horror concept and slapped some cute robots into it to make it a "kids movie." It shifts between adventure, shock, mystery and silliness throughout. Having said that, I enjoyed the trip down memory lane with it. It is a slower paced movie than what people are used to today, and I think that works to its advantage on the suspense it wants to set up. The acting and SFX are on par with other Disney live action movies of the day and are serviceable enough.
The ending - that's what really seems to confuse or turn people off to the film. A lot of imagery from what seems to be a stress dream/nightmare/vision as they complete their journey. Having watched it as an adult, I think I understand the symbolism and what the filmmakers were going for now, but the ambiguity is part of the experience, so I will just leave my interpretation out of this.
I wouldn't recommend this movie for the under-10 crowd. It's just scary and violent enough that it's probably best to stay away.
You wouldn't be blown away by this movie - it's not a great film. Just sit back and enjoy the ride - bumps and all.

Introduce the universe ending MacGuffin. Explain incredibly slim chance of dealing with MacGuffin. Perform the activity that ends the threat. But don't advance the plot in any other meaningful direction in 45 minutes. Disappointing beginning. I keep hoping Marvel had learned its lesson, but they keep doing it, and we keep falling for it. Kevin Feige is either not paying close enough attention, or is too overwhelmed to keep all this straight. The MCU needs a rest, not a reboot. Papering over poor plots with CGI won't fix this. Tom Hiddleston is laughing all the way to the bank after this pile of junk.
