Look, I get it, its an "all star cast" (more like has been cast), its got leading man rivals Steve McQueen and Paul Newman, OJ Simpson (who did a pretty decent job) was still a major sports hero before he went into the homicide business so there isn't going to be a lot of character development, but the movie is pushing 3 hrs. Long for crying out loud. There could've been SOME character development. Newman and McQueen are fine but the only supporting character who I found interesting was Richard Chamberlain who stole most of the scenes he was in. William Holden is mostly wasted as he just reacts to stuff and talks on the phone, a lot, and 3 love stories? I mean I expected some filler with the movie length but 3 overly melodramatic love stories was ridiculous. The bottom line is the fire is the movie's biggest star. It has the best backstory, character development, versatility and is even given a solid death scene. I found myself wishing for various characters to get killed. If that's your kind of movie then this is for you.
