Julia (Monroe) moves to Bucharest with her husband Francis (an American with Romanian ancestry) when he is offered the job of a lifetime. They move in to a nice apartment, both looking forward to spending time in Romania and soaking up the culture. There's only one problem - a serial killer has been murdering women there. Julia & Francis even see an active crime scene while walking by one day on their way back to the apartment.
Francis begins work, and he works long hours trying to make his best impression. This leaves Julia alone in a new city (new country as well), trying to make due. She looks out from the big window in their apartment a lot. Just people watching. Then, one evening, she notices a man from the apartment complex across the street looking back at her,,,
The next day Julia goes to see a movie at a theater in their area. It's a matinee, so she walks into a practically empty theater, and sits down right in the middle of the seats. As soon as the movie begins,, a man comes in, and sits directly (next row back) behind her. Julia becomes uncomfortable (understandably) and looks back over her shoulder, noticing the man's light brown boots. Scared, Julia leaves the theater, looking back for a moment to see what the man looks like. After catching her breath and regaining her composure, Julia makes her way to the local market. After a few moments of looking around she notices that the man from the theater has followed her,,,
* Don't worry, I'm not gonna spoil the movie for ya.
I have to say this is a pretty good thriller. It's not going to appeal to everyone, but it will to those of us who enjoy a slow burn that pays off (eventually). This is (at least) the 3rd movie I've seen with Monroe (previously saw It Follows & Longlegs, both of which star her) in, and she does not disappoint in the least. She plays poor Julia so well. Glusman plays the husband (who doesn't know what to do) well also, but Gorman plays his character perfectly. So subtle, but so great!
I'd give this a 6.5 rating.

Some dumb college students find a fire
tower in the middle of the woods (near a cabin they're staying at). Underneath the tower, they find a gold locket, hanging from the top of a pipe stuck in the ground.
Thinking nothing of it, one of them takes the locket, to give his gf as a gift. Little did the dumb-dumbs know, they had just awakened a vengeful spirit, who'd be violently hellbent on getting the locket back.
As we (the audience) find out, this vengeful spirit is that of a mentally handicapped young man named Johnny, who died due to a malicious prank played on him some 70 yrs prior.
Now,, this movie is not good, as in not enjoyable (imo). However, the ideas behind it certainly deserves some points for effort. It's a slasher film inspired by the Friday the 13th, yet doesn't quite live up to the classic.
There is very little (if any) score to this film, which I understand the reason behind the directors decision to do this, I just can't get behind it.
The pace of the film is SLOW. There is so much footage of the antagonist just walking from here to there it's just maddening (some would've been fine,, but the amount in this is too much).
Anyways,, there's a good bit of the film that shows promise,, however, as a whole I feel this film has been way over hyped. So, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Samira (Lupita N.) is dying a slow death from cancer in a hospice center near NYC. She's tired, bitter about her circumstances, slightly mean to those around her, and just ready for all the suffering to be over. Without her meds, she can't function through the pain she's in, & her only real comfort is her cat, Frodo.
Reuben (Wolff), a nurse from the center, informs Samira that he's taking a group to see a show in the city, and that she should come. Reluctantly, Samira agrees, but only if they get pizza from Patsy's in Harlem before they come back. Samira gets ready to go, knowing this may in fact be her last time to do so.
After the group sees the matinee show, Reuben is notified that he & the group need to return to the center ASAP. Due to some kind of attack that is happening to the city.
Then, everyone sees what looks like tiny meteor particles falling from the sky onto the city.
*** (Well,, for all those who've seen the first two films, you know those aren't meteors)
After the creatures wreak havoc on the city, the surviving residents are told to make their way to the south port where ships are waiting to evacuate them. So as millions of people begin the trek south to the port, Samira & Frodo head the opposite direction towards Harlem.
Along the way, Samira notices she's being followed (not in a creepy way) by a scared young English man named Eric (Quinn).
Ok,, I'm not going to give the entire movie away. I will say that I thought it was a good prequel (not perfect, but good). I thought the characters that Lupita N. & Quinn play made the movie. They were able to do so much in front of the camera while barely speaking (which is one of the things that impressed me so much about the first movie). They both never cease to amaze me. Wolff and Hounsou, although their roles are smaller, bring a lot with their performances as well (Wolff is almost unrecognizable, but he also never ceases to impress, and Hounsou is always good).
Anyways, it's a good prequel. I'd give it a 6.9 rating (if that were an option).
(I've seen a lot of "disappointed" reviews. While everyone is entitled to their opinions, I think they're wrong. This film was about the character Samira, and how she lived out her final moments while the world around her turned to 💩. As I said, I was very impressed by Lupita N. & Quinn. They made the movie)
