Meiyazhagan (2024)
Soul stirring warm look into the roots
From romance of 96 to bromance of Meiyazhagan, there are many similarities that we can see. The movie is soul stirring instilling nostalgia and longing that of somebody else's past. The simplicity of the characters, the warmth of a village and pride of history is etched all over this movie. Main cast Karthi and Arvind Swamy has given an incredible performance which is the backbone of this movie. Director wanted this to be just a novel, but made it into a movie because of peer pressure. That is evident in the second half as it gets lengthy and draggy. But still the performances and lovable characters are enough to make us get through the movie.
Kalki 2898-AD (2024)
Another Pan Indian Epic!!!
Kalki28989AD amply suffices my expectations in terms of the story and the visuals. Was skeptical to say wether this will become an epic sort of, but with those Mahabharatha glimpses, it did rose up to epic proportions. CGI was amazing and haven't seen this level of work going on for an Indian movie. 3D conversion by dneg was mediocre and I would suggest this to be watched in just 4K 2D. Amitabh Bachan's screen presence and fight scenes were so powerful that there were so many goosebumps moments. Prabhas' character was just in a setting up stage and more is yet to come. Aandavar Kamalhaasan started off with a menacing wrinkly shrivelled villain mode and he too have a lot of potential in the upcoming movies. Deepika didn't had much to do, but was good. Cameos were just short and perfect. Annaben 's character was cute. Shobana had some good screen time. The sheer scale that Nag Ashwin created is mindblowing and I am super eager to see some more of those Mahabharatha sequences and the future of Kalki! The show was in Telugu 4K 3D atmos . Need to watch it once again in Tamil or Hindi mode to better understand the intricate dialogues.
Aavesham (2024)
It's a FaFa+ Sushin' show
Aavesham has a great 1st half and not that great 2nd half. It's a good mix of mass and comedy. It's mostly a FaFa show all through with some catchy comedic moments from Sajin. 1st half is a laughter riot and the whole theatre vibes was crazy. Sushin' music is so hip that it really ups the game in the mass scenes and as bgm. The new comer kids have done a really good job and they doesn't feel like freshers in acting. They also have plenty of comedic presence and felt fresh alltogether. Eventhough the second half lags a bit giving the feeling of trying to find the right pace and place, overall it's a good entertainer.
Manjummel Boys (2024)
Manitha Unarvu Kolla ithu Manitha Kaathal Alla!!
Friendship, travel, fun, fear, emotions, survival. Thats Manjummel boys. We got to know from the trailer. Movie's first half is mostly light and it starts intensifiying towards the half. Second half is where the major emotion of the movie lies. Star of this movie is ultimately Sushin Shyam with his rivetting background score. It keeps us hooked to the story, gives the goosebumps and moves our hearts. Srinath Bhasi has done one of his best performances ever. Soubin equally shines on the crucial scenes. Other cast members are just part of it and have done considerable justice to their parts. One area which I felt little disconnected emotionally was the breakdown of Chandu's character. The built-up initially didn't give the intended effect emotionally. It felt rushed. But in second half the whole emotions picks up thanks to the intense claustrophobic scenes and Sushin's magical score. Overall looks like another winner for the year.
P. S.: Special credits to Gina and the Kanmani Song. It really elevated the movie in many ways.
Bramayugam (2024)
Another feather in Mammookka's acting career.
An Aithihyamaala style masterpiece!! Had so much of expectation for this movie and it broke that expectation and soared past sky level. It was with awe that I watched Mammooka's performance. Lord of the rings needed VFX but here just the sheer brilliance of Mammookka on his acting made it exemplary. Arjun Ashokans career best performance and Siddharth Bharathans subtly master class acting. The decision to make it into a black and white release was perfect as it added all the desired effect on its dark theme and horror. Every shots were amazing and that inception style rotating room was just kidu. This year looks to be a bright one for Malayalam Cinema.
Abraham Ozler (2024)
Another Midhun Manual thriller!
Midhun Manuel has dunnit again. An entertaining thriller movie with some good researched writing. Eventhough some plots lacked the strength required to go to the extend of what happened, it was convincing enough. Loved the terminologies and sudden plot thickening. Don't know whether I can mention, but the cameo of this movie gave a power packed performance. The main man Jayaram as Ozler was subtle and enough. Have to say haven't seen any similar themed thriller in recent times. With less screen time even Jagadeesh was amazing with the right mix of nonchalance and menace. Waiting for the continuation of any as the ending mentioned.
Animal (2023)
Not for the fainthearted!
A Ranbir show through and through. He has outdone himself in his performance from all the other previous movies. Character creation of Sandeep Reddy is our inner demons on acid. Arjun Reddy felt like a newborn baby in comparison. Some other striking performances were from Saurabh Sachdeva (acting as Bobby Deol's brother) and Bobby Deol himself. Rashmika has tried her best( I guess) but felt overacting at many places. Anil Kapoor has done his part neatly , but don't fall for the father son bonding taglines. That's not what this is!!! Also this had some fresh action/Gore scenes which was sick. Not for the fainthearted!
Dasharatham (1989)
A timeless masterpiece!
Oh God, what a movie!! Don't know how I missed this all these years. A story ahead of it's times and a brilliant direction. The originality and finesse in acting from the core cast makes this a true masterpiece. The climax dialogues of Lalettan and his acting once again cemented the fact that why I am a laalettan fan in the first place. Legend in all sense. Rekha's performace as a mom is truly commendable with an equally powerful one from Murali. Nedumudi Venu's also does an effortless Kariyachan who gives some comedic moments. Truly, the 80s had seen some classic and evergreen Malayalam movies which are rare these days. A timeless masterpiece.
Jailer (2023)
Alappara Kelapparom
FDFS @ PVR PXL.
Thalaivar Mass, Lalettan Mass, Shiva Rajkumar Mass!! This as obvious is for the masses and Nelson delivers a stylish blockbuster with his own format of making. As usual comedy injected at the serious points as a Nelson signature. Even though just cameos, Lalettan and Shiva Rajkumar got some amazing screen pres nce. Should have to say Nelson can't find a better villain that Vinayakan. He did such an amazing performance that it actually overshadowded everyone else. Action sequences with less cringey kicks and more firepower. This will be a defenite blockbuster. Thalaivar fever is on.
Oppenheimer (2023)
Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds
My rating is based on the experience I had(duh!!). I should say, my expectation were larger than the h bomb itself. The xenon IMAX experience i can say was sub par and that seriously affected my viewing experience. Nevertheless the tightness of the dramatic story telling made me hooked to the screen with unflinching attention. Not even the loud snoring of my neighbouring seat fella could divert my attention. Cilian's best performance till date and an equally matchingnone by RDJ too. The movie rightly leaves an afterthought which is indeed a horror of sorts. Nothing so visibly horrific, but an underthemenof horror in it's telling. I seriously wish I had a 70 mm IMAX in my country to experience this in it's full glory. Defenitely missed out on that part. Nolan's take on a biopic in his narrative style and prowess of movie making defenitely makes this one of the best biopics in the history of cinema. I am itching for a re-watch in a better IMAX screen.
Vikram (2022)
Lokesh Kanagaraj Magic once again!!
Vikram is fan service at the best! Can't ask for more. Lokesh Kanagaraj magic once again creating a universe of his own. It's a sure shot theaterical watch. Was an absolute treat to watch aandavar at his full form. Fahad has a lion's share of screen time and he nails it pretty hard. Vijay sethupathy's villain is cool and it's just the beginning of a huge badass behind. Loved it to the core.
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore (2022)
Such satisfying plot!
Movie was really satisfying to watch. Many questions are answered. Some really nostalgic moments and BGMs too. Hopes high for the next parts now. Jude's Dumbledore making entry into the hearts of fans.
The Batman (2022)
Journey from Vengeance to Hope!
The journey of a deeply scarred emo batsy from vengeance to hope! Cape crusader of the common man. Slow narration, excellent shots, less action. Felt like an Oscar style drama flick. Riddler plays with the tragic but rich past of Batsy stemmed from his own lonely neglected past. Lengthy watch. I could here my own breaths in the theatre as audience watched it in pin drop silence.
The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild (2022)
Snooze fest.
20 years of ice age and Disney taking over, this movie was a snooze fest. Even felt the animation to be not upto mark. They better not take this forward with more spin offs.
#Home (2021)
Sweet Family Entertainer after a long line of Dark Thrillers
This was for me the best family entertainer of this year. For a movie which is completed during the pandemic, this is simply excellent in all aspects. First and foremost is the solid content of the movie. Didn't feel any single boring moment in this. Very relatable theme with proper chemistry between the cast members. Indrans is an actor whom we watched in awe over the years on his growth from a comedian to such an impactful natural actor. This movie is safe in his shoulders. Sreenath basi, Naslen, Manju Pillai and all other cast made the strong foundation for this movie. Have to give credits to the stunning cinematography and BGM too. I will say that this is Rojin Thomas's best among the handful of movies he did. After the tiring and long line of Dark themed thrillers in malayalam, this movie was such a feel to watch.
Jungle Cruise (2021)
Disney Adventure Ride
Visually stunning, and entertaining. Disney's adventure magic again. Felt nostalgic as this felt on similar lines as of pirates of the carribean. As both of them are Disney theme park rides. Dwayne proves again to be at his best in adventure roles. Really would have been nice if experienced in a 4DX screen.
Sarpatta parambarai (2021)
Adrenaline rush entertainer.
PA Ranjith does his magic again. This is a gripping entertainer as we expected it to be from the trailer. First and foremost, its the extreme dedication and hard work of these actors to get into that shape and form which stands out. With a realistic story, narration and acting and cast, this really stands out to be Ranjiths cinematic classic.
Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)
Such a nostalgic watch!!
Bohemian Rhapsody is such a nostalgic and a beautiful biopic of Freddie Mercury and the band Queen. Story is driven by the music and the exemplary performance of Rami Malek as Freddy. Gives the full feel which revolved around those generations and the ever living music.
Epic (2013)
Stunning visuals, 3D and good laughs...
First of all I enjoyed this one to the core...although this is mainly a movie for kids, grown ups will also love it if you have that sense of getting light hearted and enjoying visuals. The storyline is a bit fairy tale like..but as we can see in the latest fairy tales, there are much more things to enjoy than the old ones. This story have a father who is trying to find out the secret world of small men, and his daughter coming to him after a long. At her father's place she comes across the mysterious and wonderful world of small sized leaf men and all the adventure unfolds. The movie has its main plus points in the great CG usage, the colorful surroundings, awesome usage of 3D and some good laughs.

Step Up Revolution (2012)
dance for a cause and rock it.....
I have always been a step up fan from the first one..with my personal favorite being the second one.I went to watch this after reading all the negative reviews, but after watching it ...i have to say it was awesome....just the whole dance and music will keep u on your seats frustrated enough to get up and dance....who cares about the storyline for an ultimate dance musical movie like step up...its all for fun for the adrenaline rush ....still this time they introduced concept dancing of a cause and it does make sense...it has a point in it and that was good...all the way it is surely a movie for all the step up fans who loves dance and music and a hell lot of fun mixed with it.....
The Dark Knight Rises (2012)
Nolan does it again.........
Went for this epic movie with full of expectations...mainly due to Nolan and all the hype......after watching it ,broke all my expectations..this is what we wanted and Nolan gave it to us.....the really amazing conclusion for an ultimate trilogy. The beginning of the film with all the actions and Bruce Wayne after 8 years of absence from Gotham made it so intriguing...but the rise of the villain to complete Ra's Al Ghul's destiny made dark knight rise once again.....with a very powerful villain batman goes through a very difficult time...all the small matters in the movie combines at last around the conclusion and makes us sit with awe and energy....really only a great director can do such a masterpiece, and Nolan deserves all the appreciation...a must watch....
Ustad Hotel (2012)
Gives u the warmth of a Sulaimani
Went for Ustad Hotel.....first day reports was as an average movie.....but after seeing it ...had the feeling that it was a masterpiece........such an originality in its storyline......excellent acting by Thilakan..........subtle story by Anjali Menon, artistic direction by Anwar Rasheed....the romance, the humanity and the realities of our lives is artistically depicted....Dulquar as a new comer doesn't seem like one....he is an excellent actor now... Mamukkoya's narration gives us the mood of the movie..it's relation with the city of Kozhikode...great movie after some time now......gives us a freshness an warmth of a "sulaimani".10/10.
The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)
Have a different feeling ...
This is my first review in IMDb.I went for this one today with little expectations mainly due to the change in cast as Garfield replaces Tobey. The main thing to be mentioned here is that this is a reboot of the Spiderman series. But changing all my doubts this one came out to be a great movie. This one had a change in its feeling.Spidey is more open now...the entirely different attitude of spidey made this fresh to watch.More of a comic book oriented story. There is more emotional content in here.Emma as Gwen is more real and smart.3D has its effects on certain scenes and was good.It is really a good entertainer which will give you a fresh feeling.
