Morbius (2022)
Theres an art with Story telling
There was nothing cohesive to the plotline. This movie seemed like a big budget fan made film, no wonder there's no MCU scroll preceding the opening credits. Wasted actors, special effects, and my time. No film studio plans to make a terrible movie but this feels like no effort was attempted at all. How are you handed the blueprint for three spidey blockbusters and screw up so badly with Morbius!?
Candyman (2021)
Was a sequel really needed?
The OG Candyman was directed by Bernard Rose, the script created from a short story written by Clive Barker, and the protagonist of this horror is a red haired, blue/green eyed woman and the tale takes place in Chicago's Cabrini-Green. Rose decided his 1992 horror story's themes would be of race and social class, plus unlike the locale of the the short-story it would take place in the inner-city. This was the original films idea... though its screenplay was drafted by people who live a different reality far from those of Cabrini-Green. The POV of the original movie was even from the perspective of a person who's reality differed from those who lived in this urban housing project. This film plays on middle-class uber fears of racial stereotypes. Candyman was tortured and killed by a anger mob because of a taboo affair, but his vengeful spirit vented its rage against people who look like him, there was a mutual obsession between Candyman and the fair redheaded woman who pull him into her "world" now endangering people who look like her. The first movie is unabashedly offensive and now since the quote on quote direct sequel is being told through a new colored lense which does not use the tropes of the original it's being judged badly because its believed that the director: Nia DaCosta, and executive producers: Ian Cooper; Win Rosenfeld; Jordan Peele has a political BLM or woke agenda. Though the first movie's director, Bernard Rose, literally was calling out attention to the social disparities and the extreme wealth gap between suburban and urban societies in America. He did used the predominant's film goers opined imagination to twine together a movie that was only scary to those who accepted the aforementioned race stereotypes. Using "woke" and BLM as reason to why you were unsatisfied with this movie paints you in a bad light. If this sequel is not worthwhile viewing then constructively critique it for the film's faults not because it disrupts your cognitive dissonance.
The Suicide Squad (2021)
Cool Title Cards Transitions
First, I didn't truly have a problem with Suicide Squad (2016) despite its glaring studio meddling. But this 2021 The Suicude Squad (r) rated presentation was comparatively better.
I'd rate it a full price evening show with extra hot butter. James Gunn has now sort of set the standard for every DC director filming in the future DCEU continuity timeline. I now see that Warner's comic book movies can be hard, gritty, with a dash of dark humor or hilariously funny dialogue, and even some quirky slapstick. It depends on the storyteller (director) and their team of script writers.
After a second viewing, I'll admit this movie's rewatchability is 7 out of 10. I'm sure a viewer will find something new and entertaining each time. My most favorite scene, out of ALOT of memorable scenes, involved a cigarette and a well acted conversation on the concept of an attack technique, and ends with a one worded tactical procession that places a poignant exclamation on asian philosophy exacted by skillful assassins.
The Suicide Squad (2021) is not that bad.
The Paper Tigers (2020)
A great Martial Arts flick with heart
Quite the enjoyable action-comedy-mystery movie. Alain Uy, Ron Yuan, and Mykel Jenkins worked good together as a trio of has been kung fu prodigies discovering their master has past and winding up investigating if his death was through foul play.
This flick well deserves its 6-10 rating from the audience.
Wrath of Man (2021)
*SIGH*
I think making this action revenge flick in America with basic dialogue spewed from the mouths of supporting actors that have no real screen presence nor any gangster noir charisma was an incredible bad idea.
I was still entertained but it's no Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.
Synchronic (2019)
Nice
This would've played well in cinematic theaters. Anthony Mackie sold me on his character. I have only a few complaints because the good out way the bad. Watch it, get you a box of tissues, and enjoy a great premise filmed well, and some well acted performances caught by this film director.
Complaining over a time displaced animal, who could EASILY be replaced, instead of the loss of a human life, gravity of finding a child and an endearing bestie giving up everything, goes to show how horrible and dysfunctional people in this day and age truly are.
Willy's Wonderland (2021)
If it would've been any other actor...
This movie would have been terrible without Nicolas Cage's zany performance.
I agree with another reviewer's on the nose remark "its cheesy and that's what makes it good!" It really felt like The Killer Klowns From Outer Space from the eighties. This was campy, hilarious, and the Janitor character Cage played was all that and then some.
This is a comedy horror that is not suppose to be taken serious. If you're reading this before watching it, then I'm recommending you hop to it and enjoy this rump. Shame on you so called amateur critics that have no sense of humor in spite of yourselves.
Now it's time for a break with some grape flavored pop and a little pinball machine antics! (Those dance moves were wild) lmao ;)
Momentum (2015)
With a lot of willing suspension of disbelief...
This movie is not that half bad.
Be as it may, this role of a female action star was wrongfully casted because Olga Kurylenko is the weight size of a Keebler elf, so her fight scenes with men at least 180lbs and/or more heavier than her just was in a word "unbelievable" though she had a campy way of portraying exotic toughness sort of like a female John Mcclane, so I'll give her and the film director props; oh and the actors who's roles were as villains... An applause for selling their receiving beatdowns, somewhat entertaining, from a 110lb woman... now that, in my opinion, is actting! Lol!
You can tell these people had fun on set and it came through on the screen. This is a good popcorn VOD movie.
High School USA! (2013)
Bottom of the barrel
This was actually someone's idea of adult animation satire?
Za granyu realnosti (2018)
An 1:50:00 that I'll never get back!
Is there some way where I can give this movie a negative half of a half of a half of a half of a quarter of a half of star?
This film, if that's what you want to call it, is just plain awful. There were plot wholes throughout the flick to include several WTF moments during the 3rd act. Despite the bad screenplay and the wooden lead actor from the acting school of Zack Morris, you can tell someone really wanted to make an Ocean's Eleven mesh Now You See Me, X-Men like scifi/thriller heist movie. The effects on a $5million budget wasn't half bad if this was for one of WB's DC 23 episode series.
You're better off watching the movies up top in no particular order for 6 hours than losing 2 hours on this mind numbing child's fantasy filmed wrong.
Move along people take my word for it... there's nothing to see here.
Drop Zone (1994)
How did I miss this in the 90s
I don't know if they meant it to be an action/comedy but I laughed through 80% of this flick. Plot holes galore, campy, and cringey line delivers; despite all that.. the movie was still entertaining.
Under the Skin (2013)
it took 2dys for me to watch this movie
I'll admit that I've never heard of this director, but I have watched another of his films titled, SEXY BEAST and, besides Marvel's booming cinematic universe and reading about the movie HER, Scarlett Johansson (The Island & The Spirit) has been but a dismal bleep on my actress to watch radar.
Five minutes into the movie, as it was playing, I went online to read a full spoiler filled synopsis about it. I noted that something was missing and if you've read the other reviews on IMDb they mostly complained of the dialogue or the lack there of...for me what it lacked was the premise "A mysterious seductress preys upon the population of Scotland".
The character was mysterious of sorts but more like a smudge in a painting or discoloration, an odd ball whose screen presence only conveyed a disoriented hunting method and the prey she quote on quote seduced seemed like the booby prizes only found in the crimes of opportunity. Her mission as an invading alien race living and stalking among mankind was lackadaisical, without direction. Her look, body and straight forwardness was the bait to reel in the unsuspecting prey, and the trap that was used to ensnare these victims was quite interesting but never expounded on.
The movie lost itself with trying to be clever by being artsy and to overly open for interpretation. Forgetting to be intoxicating by not using the suspense that this sci-fi thriller was supposed to serve caused a dead screen play and a poorly constructed film.
ATM (2012)
Great flick
I felt this movie was about isolation under freezing temperatures and its affects over time, with that, how it can cause bad decisions to add an intense fear and how being afraid in itself can be debilitating.
1) You have to consider that you're watching a movie not reading a 400 page novel, so there is never enough time for character building with these slasher/thrillers in the beginning. Sure there were plot holes but what movie doesn't..?
2) The story's intensity provoked just the right emotional response of the movie viewer, ie:
a) Why don't they run for it!
b) Its 3 against 1!
c) How could all three leave their cell phones behind!
3) The direction, acting and the story were all good. I felt the underlying uncomfortable fear, pain, phobia, and the growing angry distrust, to include the delayed finger pointing and the in fighting between the three.
Applauses to the director for bringing out such good performances from the entire cast.
4) I liked the serial killer... this guy was intelligent, methodical and very creepy. LOL... plus fast!
I would recommend this movie to all of my friends who like slasher/thrillers like this.
I also would recommend before giving ATM thumbs down watch it again and listen to the dialogue because a lot of answers to any viewer's questions are delivered on a silver platter.
Last, think about putting yourself in the same situation and suddenly being surprised by menacing stranger and then watching that man beat and pulverize a passer-byers face into the pavement until death... then tell me how different or brave you would have been.
