I watched Jack and Jill with my husband's family after Good Friday lunch. Now I must admit, this sort of film is not my cup of tea but I thought it was not at all that bad. We all had a good laugh and it kept us entertained for an hour and a half. I don't think it's meant to be taken seriously, it is a comedy after all and the fact that we saw Al Pacino, Johnny Depp and David Spade in it was well worth the effort. It had the usual toilet humor, farts, diarrhea and a sweaty bed but the cockatoo almost stole the show. I have seen films worse than this and I don't think it deserved the harsh criticism it has received. We all have someone in the family that we are embarrassed about and want to get rid of at times and this exaggerated the fact. I think Adam Sandler has a lot of talent and I don't think we've seen the best of him yet. I would love it if he tackled a really serious role, just to see what he is really made of.
The film started off promising but it slowly spiraled into unbelievable territory. The character of Mike was also unbelievable because someone that had been sober for 15 years would not suddenly abuse drugs and alcohol because some young thing put some in your mouth. It was also ridiculous that Joyce's mother was celebrating her birthday one day and dies the next. I was disappointed because I really like Billy Zane and believe that he should still be able to make classy movies. The acting of Estella Warren was very wooden and it was so obvious she was miming her songs. The film tried very hard to be an edge of the seat thriller but was no where near it. The ending of the film was a major turn off.
