better than the dark knight
17 August 2008
it would be better if i come straight to the point and discuss why i think this movie is better than tdk. when i watched spiderman2 first time i was blown away by it i felt like i never felt before watching a superhero movie, its generally very hard to relate to a superhero for us average movie goers.. after all how many of us pull their briefs on top of their trousers and go after bad guys... before spiderman2 superhero movies had the very usual worn out formula, there is a superhero there is a super villain and there is a girl, super villain come up with an ingenious plan to kill the superhero and conquer the world... spiderman2 has all this too but it has little more and thats what makes it the best superhero movie till this very day... and that thing is the failures of superhero the weakness of the superhero, his suffering and for a change him being a victim of others cruelty. and that makes us love, sympathize and pity this superhero. the movie is not just some high on adrenaline cgi cheap thrill collection of sequences (though it does have some great action sequence which you'll love), its much more... tdk is a great flick but in my opinion its overrated and spiderman2 is a superior flick and first of its kind... god how i wish they didn't screw up spiderman3 so bad..

3rd part and still they don't know what we want
6 June 2007
the makers of this movie shouldve asked this question "why do people love potc?" before making the 2 sequels, but it seems like either they didn't ask themselves this question or got the wrong answer. so why do we love potc? the answer is simple "captain jack sparrow". its not the spectacular special effects neither its the emotional soap opera between will turner and ms. swan. but we love it cause we love Mr. depp as captain sparrow. when i read few years ago that they are going to make a sequel of this movie i was so thrilled, i thought finally i am going to see enough of captain jack sparrow but alas even in this much anticipated finale captain jack is kept off the screen for much part of the movie. the story is made much confusing by tossing the main characters from one ship to another, hostage to one villain or another. don't get me wrong here, i agree that all the characters appear great on the screen but somehow they don't fit together, its more like a catwalk of supermodels. one by one coming on screen and doing their part. as all the blockbuster sequels the makers put more stress on the grandeur of the movie, how big the sets could be, how grand the special effects can be, but in the end they forgot to add the main ingredient (in enough quantity)"captain jack sparrow"

too many cooks spoil the broth

the basic problem with the movie is that they tried to do too many things at once (too much of special effects too many characters etc.) i think that the producer joel silver and the studio chiefs messed up the movie, they tried to do something spectacular with the movie which ended up in a disaster. the reason the special effects didnt leave audiences in awe was that they worked on two movies at once instead of one at a time, it took them so long that by the time the movie was released the effects became obsolete kinda pretty much regular effects that u see in any movie. they also thought of running this movie in oscar race so they tried to put some emotional stuff to make it look more serious(like the scene when trinity is dying. it just goes on and on and on). the story isnt complex atall and the script isnt intricate which would be the basic characteristic of a matrix movie. u never find urself sitting on the edge of ur seat. after watching the scene where architect and neo meet i thought there is more to the story than we initially thought(like one matrix running inside other) but there was nothing more to surprise me. i would call this an average hollywood movie a typical joel silver production (cool action scenes, black people working with white, chicks dancing in night clubs in cool clothes, and people with lotsa guns). i will rate this movie a 6.5/10.

wonderful acting in a heart touching drama
11 July 2003
A wonderful movie. No one other than Pankaj Kapoor could have played a better leading role Shabana Aazmi is great too in her supporting role. Direction is superb too though it couldnt get much support from the technical departments like all other indian movies. This movie reminds me of Guru Datt's Pyasa which was the story of a struggling poet in corrupt Indian society and this is the story of a struggling doctor.
