The Mandalorian: Chapter 19: The Convert (2023)
Massive yawn-fest.
The Director of episoide 3: "Chung tried to stay true to the Star Wars universe while drawing inspiration from legendary filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock." I can't work out whether he is trolling or being insanely genuine. How on earth Chung could possibly parallel his direction of episode 3 to that of using inspiration from Hitchcock is uttrerly hilarious.
The episode is lacklustre, and incredibly boring, filled with vacuous characters and dull, wooden acting. I find it astounding that still we have these pointless episodes in what is normally an excellent watch.
It's such a shame that the series went this way, because this is definitely NOT the way.
Morbius (2022)
Oh dear
Look for the overrated reviews awarding this movie anything above a 5. Either extras, producers or bots, or all.
Absolute catastrophe of a movie. No plot, character development, all horridly rushed together. Leto looks completely disinterested. Script is abominable.
Don't waste your money.
The Book of Boba Fett: Chapter 1: Stranger in a Strange Land (2021)
Rather 'meh'!
It's a bit like watching a bad '90s Star Trek episode. Albeit this review is based on the first episode only, but the acting is wooden and lazy, the costumes are flimsy and unrealistic. It seems like the gravy-train is chugging along without much thought about the process.
The Mandalorian this most definitely is not. If you're expecting that, or similar, you'll be sorely disappointed.
Review based on independent assessment. Not a bot trying to ramp up review scores.
The Green Knight (2021)
I'd rather put out a campfire with my face.
This was so slow and pretentious, with the Director clearly trying to be edgy.
I just couldn't get into it - the acting was good, but the plot was so difficult to follow, I found myself looking at my phone instead of watching because I was so bored.
I you want to good snooze with some weird music in the background, go for it. If not, stay well clear and don't waste your money.
Intelligence (2020)
I don't get the low reviews
This is utterly hilarious. Why are the reviews so low??
Amusing characters and nice dry humour. Thoroughly enjoyable and hope there's a second series.
Seriously though. It's at 5.7 at the moment. What on earth???
Brawl in Cell Block 99 (2017)
Brawful
I mean really. Bad acting, some of the lines are laughable. The fight scenes are diabolical. I watched it all and it was difficult.
Dreadful garbage. The end credits are the best.
Game of Thrones: The Long Night (2019)
Oustanding
Rarely do I want to watch anything again, but this episode truly outclasses anything I have seen for a very long time. In fact, scrap that - ever.
10/10 from me. Utterly superb acting and directing.
This Country (2017)
Superb!
This is huge fun to watch. The writing is fresh and amusing and the mockumentary-style acting is utterly brilliant. The brother and sister really do pull-off an exceptional job of bouncing off each other in such a deadpan way. Their real-life father effortlessly performs his role as an unsavoury but hugely entertaining character.
If you like The Office and Alan Partridge, this series is a must watch.
Awesome!
Upstart Crow (2016)
Oh dear
Canned laughter? Seriously? In 2016 we still have canned laughter?!
The opening scene was dull, badly acted and just not funny. It just wreaked of that middle-of-the-road humour that I utterly detest. I don't expect to be rolling on the floor in fits of giggles, but I do expect to at least smile. As another reviewer noted, the canned laughter at the most pathetic of jokes just made me cringe and switch off.
I can see the Blackadder-esque backdrop is present, there is just no substance whatsoever. I really hope Ben Elton stops writing comedies - he really has lost the plot.
