Terminator Zero (2024)
I wanted to like it...
Terminator Zero starts okay, but it gets quite boring and a little bit annoying. The action scenes are good, but that's about it, there's nothing else positive. The dialogues are boring, the characters are all boring, maybe Misaki is the only decent one.
I must mention, if the writers were japanese maybe they would have done a better job. It's very clear the amount of "writing for modern audiences" in this show, it's a trending phenomenon in western entertainment, unfortunately.
I don't think this show deserves a season 2. Season 1 is watchable, but it's enough.
I recommend the anime Pluto for people who watched this and left with a bad taste, Pluto will get you excited and the theme is similar (but much better executed, a masterpiece).
Monsters (2022)
S01 8/20 , S02 4/10
S02 started very well, the actor that plays the father is outstanding, he's an amazing Spanish actor famous for the movie biutiful (forgot his name lol).
The 1st half of the season 2 is quite good. Then the 2nd part comes and it just feels like a whole new show, a comedy with some kind of housewives drama. The main motive for this drop of quality is the way they wrote the female lawyer, Leslie. Also quite a horrible performance, can't stand her acting and character, just super annoying.
It's almost like different teams wrote different episodes. Crazy how episodes 1-5 were really good and the rest of the episodes are unwatchable.
Deadpool & Wolverine (2024)
I never rolled my eyes so many times
I convinced my wife to watch this movie together, I told her finally the MCU has a new movie worth a watch, at least that's what most reviews had told us.
We started watching it, by the minute 15 she looks at me cringing a little bit. I told her: "yeah, I know... My bad." I just don't quite understand why would they waste millions doing this type of movie, why not do a decent one?
And yeah, of course I know the reason why the new generation is able to enjoy this type of film. The reason why is because this is basically a TikTok movie, a compilation of funny sketches with cool music, some nostalgia bait, a lot of 1min cameos, a lot of Easter eggs and that's it.
I even considerate Ryan Reynolds a decent comedian but no one can take 2h of him talking non stop, all the same kind of teenager jokes. Also, the real life jokes in a movie throw me off big time, like "Blake will be pissed" , "Hey Hugh", "Disney this, fox that", etc... it's not even funny. Someone, please, for the love of God, tell Ryan that he's not that funny and that a boomer acting like a 12 year old is sad and quite lame and maybe he should focus on the soccer fraud is pulling instead of this modern MCU cringe fest.
So, yeah, it's confirmed, the only good Deadpool movie is the first one.
The Penguin (2024)
Turned it off after 14 minutes.
It's typical modern writing for modern audiences, like they love to say. You can expect to see in this series all the stuff you're used to watch on modern tv shows, bad, cheap writing.
I have probably all Batman comic books since 1990, I love gotham, I love the batman universe, but this doesn't feel like gotham, and that doesn't feel like penguin. And I am a fan of Colin Farrell, but this show just looks terrible. I lost count of all the red flags I saw in the first minutes I endured.
But to be honest, the movie wasn't great either, but it was watchable. I don't feel this show is watchable. 1 hour a episode is way too much time for me. Hard pass.
House of the Dragon (2022)
Changed my rating from 9 to 6
Season 1 was awesome. I was still defending the show untill this episode 6 of season 2. Enough is enough, the writers have no new ideas anymore, they don't follow the book and now this season is just super boring episode after episode. It's a Mexican soap opera now. I find it disgraceful. And it kinda is a bait and switch as well. They baited us with a very good season 1 just so they now use season 2 to push all their propaganda and personal beliefs. Is it so hard to follow the original story from the book?
The western world is having a really big writers Crisis in the entertainment industry.
Anyway, I might still keep watching this, but not with the same excitement as before. Might put it on just as background noise and go check it out when I hear a dragon. A shame.
The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare (2024)
Half good half bad
If you watch this movie alone on Blu-ray with the option to fast forward then you have the chance of watching the best parts of the movie, skipping the useless boring parts, and ultimately finding the movie quite enjoyable. If instead you don't have the option to skip parts of the movie, then you'll be watching around one hour of boring scenes and another hour of decent scenes. Unfortunately, these are not separated as 1st part of the movie and 2nd part of the movie, they are always switching. But I will help you out.
When you see Henry and his boys on scene, then it's the good part. When you realize that a bossy woman is on scene, then it's the boring part. Unfortunately, currently on Hollywood most movies must have DEI cast, writing and air time, so it is what it is. Sometimes it doesn't affect the quality of the movie too much, not in this case I'm afraid.
Poor Things (2023)
Too much should be too much
Crazy how people enjoy movies like this, but we must understand that this is what a part of western society always chased. The people fascinated with this movie are the same type of people that enjoyed the movie Pretty Baby back in the day: Radical liberals. People obsessed with the sexualization of everything.
This movie could have been decent if the amount of extreme feminism wasn't too much. I thought Hollywood had already moved on from the "all men are evil" but it seems not.
I give one point for the photography aspect of the movie, it's good. All the rest is horrible, in my opinion.
Even the story is full of plot holes.
Bella goes from chicken brain to Amy Schumer in days, always with anti-men jokes. It's just too tiresome. I would expect a movie like this in 2015, not now.
Anyway, Hollywood is a laugh stock now, no one cares about this. I'm here laughing at the writers while watching good quality content from Asian writers and directors. Cheers.
86 (2021)
Boy meets Girl
If you're looking for an action Mecha anime, this might not be for you, unless you are tolerant and can adapt easily to other genres as well.
I was watching some Gundam movies and playing Armored Core, so I started looking for another Mecha anime. I ended up finding 86. I gotta be honest, in the beginning I was a little disappointed by the lack of action and distracted by so much talking, but then I got hooked. The main attraction was the awesome chemistry between the two main characters, Shin and the Major. This show ended up being a Boy meets Girl romance and I was not expecting that at all, I usually don't even like that kind of thing but this was very well made and the finale is just fascinating, truly emotional. Still, I think the correct rating is 7/10. It's a good show.
Pluto (2023)
Very good anime, great storytelling
This is one of those animes that you can recommend to anyone. It has good characters, good story, good animation and great sci-fi aspects.
My only complain is the length of the episodes, they are too long for me, making me often lose focus while there's no action. But maybe I should not have binged it. So it might be preferable to watch it slowly.
There is a substantial amount of emotional parts in this show, be ready for it.
When I finished watching this, I wanted to go back to watch the old Astro boy shows.
I give a rating of 7 because I reserve 8-10 rating for my top favorite shows that I can rewatch anytime. Pluto is a good anime, but I don't think I will ever rewatch it, mainly because of the length of each episode.
Still a recommendation for sure. Cheers.
A Haunting in Venice (2023)
I saw many positive reviews so I gave it a chance
Couldn't finish the movie.
I always get surprised when so many people like a movie that I personally think it's mediocre, and sometimes those movies even get awards, but then after a few years people forget about them and can't remember a thing about the movies and I'm just: "but you loved the movie how can you forget about the story?" And they answer something like: "oh the movie was trending and stuff".
Anyway, this movie looks like a theater act... Or a musical. Doesn't look like a movie, definitely not a high budget movie. The acting is not good, the world design is not good, the plot and makes intelligent people lose brain cells.
It feels like a Sunday morning Disney tv show.
Butcher's Crossing (2022)
Not great, not bad
I wanted to give a higher rate but it's hard because the movie has many issues. That being said, it's not a bad movie, very watchable especially if you love westerns.
The actors performances are good, the story and plot are decent. Probably lacks more action. You won't see many bullets.
My biggest issue, and maybe this is a "me problem", is their clothing. I see this problem many times in modern low budget westerns. The people in charge of the outfits, wardrobes and characters design should put a bigger effort in making the audience feel the old western days, teleporting the audience back in time. Instead, I feel they are wearing Levi's jeans and gap shirts, all clean. The horses are also way too clean.
Anyway, it's not that big of a deal, just wanted to share my point of view.
Cheers.
Expend4bles (2023)
How can anyone give a rating higher than 1?
I'm speechless, no movie like this should've given the green light. This is insane. I can't even say this is a low-budget movie because many low-budget movies are much better than this, this is a no-budget movie, this looks like a youtube parody video.
Is the state of modern hollywood this bad, right now?
The dialogues are the worst I ever seen... the CGI is the worst I ever saw... The "plot" is ridiculous and predictable since the first minutes. No one should pay to watch this, in fact, we should get money for wasting time watching this. I fast forward during the whole movie, stopping sometimes just to laugh at how ridiculous the action scenes are, this is full of meme material.
I feel bad for Jason Statham but lately, he just thinks about money anyway, with all those chinese movies. Stallone I already lost all respect for him a long time ago.
This movie is a joke and in a way, they are calling the audience a bunch of dumb idiots that will watch anything. We should teach them a lesson, but I see so many people giving "okay" ratings, that blows my mind.
Justified: City Primeval (2023)
Justified is one of my all-time favorite shows
I'm going to be honest with you, I feel sad watching this show, and I feel sad writing this review. Watching this show is an awful experience, except when Raylan is on screen, but he is limited because he gotta interact with all those poor designed new characters and deal with the extremely poor writing.
The daughter can't act but let's not put all the blame on her, the rest of cast is not better, what a disgrace. Huge disappointment.
I know some "easy going" people with too much time will say: "oh you're being harsh, this is fine", no, this is not fine, this type of cash grab gotta end, it's disrespectful for the real fans. They did exactly the same with Dexter.
I'll challenge you to watch a dialogue from any episode of the original show and then compare with the dialogue from the 2nd episode of this new show, when they are questioning Sandy (it's one of the worst dialogues I ever watched on TV, and I watch tv since early 90s.
How can these writers complain about low salaries when the product they make is this bad? "Yikes"
The Flash (2023)
They managed to destroy one of the best DC stories
The Comic Book Flashpoint by Geoff Johns is one of the best DC Justice League comic books ever. It's those kind of books that you can't stop reading it, the characters, the story, the writing, the art, it's all extremely well done.
So when I heard they were doing a movie about it, I thought it would be very hard to not create a very decent film with all the material the book gave us. I was wrong.
I borrowed the Blu-ray from a friend and decided to watch it with a couple of friends. After 10 minutes, everybody in my room was just: "stop this, this is unwatchable".
Then I said: "Ok, wait, maybe it gets better when batman shows up, lets skip to that part". It didn't, it became more stupid.
So then again I said: "Ok, it definitely gonna get better when Superman shows up, trust me". It didn't... it got even worse.
We stopped watching it and just picked another movie instead.
I added some of the names of this movie to my blacklist so I avoid any more excruciating experiences like this one, in the future. The "writer" Christina Hodson is one of them, of course. My God...
The funny thing is that the DC Cartoon movies are still pretty good, for the most part. But they just can't make good live action movies... Especially when DiVeRsiTy is the main focus of the writers, instead of quality.
Anyway... Cheers.
The Bear (2022)
Gave up watching 2nd season
The Bear ended with season 1. Season 2 has a whole different vibe and the few bad things that the 1st season had, the 2nd season has thousands times more. It's childish girly comedy+drama from start to finish, I can't stop cringing. I gave up during the 3rd episode, not going to waste my time with this anymore. It's a shame, since the 1st season was quite decent, but this is just completely unwatchable, but I guess there's an audience for this type of awkward "humor". To me it's just dumb when the whole episode has characters with the same expression all over again saying "oh hum, like okay, well hum like okaay cool".
1st Season: 8/10
2nd Season: 0/10.
The Idol (2023)
omg so edgy: meh
The show is so bad that hbo staff had to create hundreds of accounts to go rate on reviews websites so it doesn't show the real rating 1/10. Depp's daughter can't act, but it's probably the role of her life since she also has daddy issues. The korean girl can't act, but they want the kpop cult watching it (although by the recent news, it seems it backfired, the fans are mad lol). The weeknd can't act, but they want to use his songs. There's not even one good character in this show, they are all horrible, starting with the variety trans making everybody feel sick. The producers want to attract the "omg so edgy, so sexy wow" audience, but the truth is, that audience right now is busy with other activism and won't have time to defend this super disgraceful show with no substance. This is like a tiktok commercial show sponsored by taylor swift fans. It's an old formula, everybody knows... "omg poor girl, it's not her fault, the media did this to her, the father and men in her life did this to her", we saw this before thousands of times, it's old. But at least some movies/shows have actually a plot and good characters. Here there's nothing and no one can act. A huge failure by HBO. Hard to believe that after Succession they would launch something so bad, the entertainment hollywood industry is in crisis.
Unicorn: Warriors Eternal (2023)
Maybe this one is just for kids?
Im a fan of Gendy. Samurai Jack (I even rewatched everything this year) is great, funny, cool, awesome art and writing. Primal, for me, is an absolute masterpiece, something very rare to get nowadays.
So, my expectations were maybe a little too high for this. But this show probably is for a different demographic, maybe it's just for kids?
In my opinion, just like its title, the show is a mess, I don't sympathize with any character yet, the writing is not funny or smart, it's just... childish. And the characters talk too much, way too much.
I'm still giving it a chance, some shows need time to get us hooked. I'm in episode 5... Watching it right now as a matter of fact, bored. Cheers.
From (2022)
cheap tv show ... (Changed rating and stopped watching)
I was enjoying the show, I initially gave a rate of 8 but I had to lower to a 6, then 4, and now 2, because, just like the show Lost, it's starting to drag, and zero explanations so far, just more and more mysteries and questions that I'm not sure that we will ever be able to get answers.
But my biggest problem is not the amount of questions (that's fine, I'm okay waiting, just like I did with Lost), my biggest problem is the huge amount of boring characters taking too much air time. I'm afraid they'll be occupying more than half of the episodes and no one is interested in them, to be honest. Oh, and how about all those lesbians? Lol they went full L World here... 80% of the women are lesbians. Why the bait? It just makes the show look cheap... And trust me, your audience don't care about that bait, we just want quality writing.
Anyway, I really enjoyed some episodes so far, but unfortunately, I'm not sure if the production wants this to succeed, they're doing too many mistakes, almost like sabotaging it...
I'm team Boyd, any day of the week, by the way. Great performance by the actor. He saves the show.
(Edit: I stopped watching, the show is just not good enough and the writing is horrible now)
Cheers.
A Perfect Planet (2021)
Overall, a very good documentary, but
I loved all episodes, besides the last one "Humans".
The filming crew made an amazing job. David is a great narrator, as always. The images of the animals, especially the ones very hard to film are incredible.
The drone videos are also incredible and inspiring.
Now let's talk about the main message of the show, mainly talked in the last episode. People with common sense, like me, definitely agree that humans must control the CO2 emissions. Yes, we should start using renewable energy. But why do you talk about only about some points and avoid talking about others? Why only push the same extreme narrative that we see the millionaires, the elite promoting everyday, on social media and on BBC? Why don't talk about sustainability? Why go straight to extreme? Don't you guys travel on private planes everyday? Why blame the Western average joe? And why no talk about the african poachers? And, especially, why don't talk about China? China is the main reason the planet is in this state, but you all pretend to not know that and avoid talking about it. There's no control in China, they don't have rules, their CO2 emissions are outrageous, they kill millions of shares everyday, their elite people eat shark meat, dog meat, every meat really, and you just keep quiet. China and India don't have garbage recycling culture, it's a mess and they put everything into the ocean. But the problem is the average joe in Kansas turning on the AC during the summer. Right. Good luck with the tiktok generation pushing communism in school.
Battlefield 4 (2013)
An action masterpiece, superb campaign
I rarely get emotional playing this type of games, but wow, this is one of the best FPS game I ever played. Both Battlefield 4 and 1 are amazing.
It's funny that the same studio couldn't create a decent modern battlefield, the new battlefield 2042 is unplayable, a complete joke compared to this masterpiece. Something happened with the Dice studio (probably we all know what...).
If you like FPS games, this is a must play, although the campaign story mode is not long, I finished within 6 hours, but it's not easy.
The multi-player is great, but I think battlefield 1 has the best multi-player mode and community.
Cheers.
Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
Crazy times, brain usage forbidden
It's a bad movie, but as a comedy is not bad, it has a few funny moments, typical Chinese humor. I lived in China for many years, I know mandarin, I understand their humor (although I don't find it funny, it's very childish) and I know that everyone likes Michelle and they want her to be celebrated. Ok fine, but we'll just, out of nowhere, pretend that meritocracy doesn't exists? We'll just award a product not for its content but for its meaning? Saying this movie is good is the same thing as saying bugs taste good. Bugs have protein, so let's just say bugs are much more delicious than steaks, because of how it represents environmentally. It's more politically correct, so let's all forget about flavor, taste quality, appearance, let's just play the pretend game and just pretend disgusting things are awesome, they're the best stuff in the world. That's what Hollywood and their shills are saying, awarding this movie and saying this is the best movie ever. This is a crazy comedy movie, almost unwatchable, unless you're just passing time, chatting with friends and checking your phone while watching the movie.
People, can we just go back to award stuff that is actually good? And don't bring that "oMG yOu diDnT uNdeRstAnD", we all understood the movie, it's a stupid movie for depressing people who spend their whole day on social media, this movie is basically a long tiktok video.
But some part of me just says: Ah, nevermind this, no one cares about the oscars anymore, and let them have their fun, they're happy. We had our fun with great masterpieces like Goodfellas, The Godfather, Training Day, Inception, The Wolf of Wallstreet, Interstellar, all those really good movies. Now it's time for the... simple people have their fun. I guess we too should pretend that this movie is good, so that you guys feel good. So, yeah... OK.
Cheers.
NieR: Automata Ver 1.1a (2023)
I'm trying very hard to like this but...
The game is so cool so I had to watch the anime, but so far it has been a very boring experience. Who is doing the writing? It almost feels like this is a Netflix production. I watched 7 episodes so far and 90% of the episodes it's just people/robots talking nonsense... I fell asleep multiple times. I still enjoy the art and the world design, that's why I don't give it a lower rating, but still, this anime could be so much better with badass action. I will keep watching, but I will probably not recommend this to anyone, it's not enjoyable.
I rather recommend watching Samurai 7 or Full Metal Alchemist, within the same vibe.
Cheers.
Fumetsu no Anata e (2021)
1st season is very good
I recommended everyone to watch the 1st season, it's extremely good.
I had high hopes for the 2nd season, but... I have no idea what happened, it's just bad... Not horrible, but it's not good... I was super disappointed, especially after such a good 1st season. Don't waste time watching the 2nd season. And it seems they're working on a 3rd season, that sounds crazy, after such a messy 2nd season. Nothing made sense, it was just random stuff happening and the magic of the 1st season was completely erased, destroyed... It's almost like a prank, a gotcha... Usually this kind of stuff happens in western productions, it's very rare to happen in Japanese Anime.
Living (2022)
Modern writing must get better
The movie is not very good, has nothing to do with the Japanese masterpiece.
The acting is fine, but the characters are extremely awful, not because of the actors but because of the writing. Being a movie from the old years, the writing shouldn't be this modernized, the characters act like they're in the 2020's.
I have no problem with slow pace movies, some of my favorite movies have slow pace, the problem here is the audience being enable to enjoy the 1 hour and 40 minutes of a movie with such horrible writing. I couldn't wait for the movie to end so I could watch something else and forget about these boring characters that speak random words.
It's curious to see so many 10/10 ratings, obviously the movie is not a 10/10 movie so I wonder why someone would rate it like that, maybe it's the trend of fast media consumption that makes people love stuff that they actually know nothing about it because they actually spent the whole time looking at social media instead of consuming the product, attentively.
Unfortunately the movie Living is not alone in this matter, most modern movies are suffering from a lack of writing quality. I wonder where the quality writers are, these days. Did they all get canceled?
Navalny (2022)
I don't know about this, chief
Look, this can all be true, but can also all be fake. It's hard to know. Navalny is an influencer politician. And what do influencers do? They do everything for views. I repeat, they do literally everything for views. Now I'm not saying he staged everything, I'm not saying he poisoned himself, but all the videos of him are very weird, watch it by yourself and take your conclusions. I have no doubts that you'll wonder at least once that some video of him or his family is staged. Someone is profiting with all of this, I don't know who. That being said, I'm obviously no putin supporter, he's evil and should be stopped, but putin is no dumb, if you are in Russia and putin wants you dead, believe me, you'll be dead. So yeah, my conclusion watching this documentary (I didn't finish it, a little too corny for me, especially his English accent, although his daughter speaks perfect English...) is that it's not worth your time and I have no idea why this has an Oscar nomination. Anyway, peace for all, cheers.
