I was really expecting the film not to be very good from the reviews i read at Rotten Tomatoes. I was pleasantly surprised. We rented the film from Comcast On Demand since it did not open in our area. I was able to view it twice before it was taken down. I enjoyed it more the second time round. I found the whole cast to be very good. Especially Ty Burrell from the Good Wife. David Duchovny was excellent as The Goat Man and really showed that he can play other characters very well. I did find Vera Farmiga a little over the top, but then I believe she was supposed to be. Also enjoyed Justin Kirk as the sleazy boyfriend of the Farmiga character. Ty Burell while i expected to hate him since she always referred to him by a very vulgar term turned out to be a nice person. It was also nice to see that in this film it was the guys that showed some personal parts instead of the ladies:) Bottom line, while not Oscar material its a very enjoyable way to spend an hour and a half. I think when it comes out on DVD I will buy it.
Well, I must say that I really did enjoy the film very much. Each and every one of the cast was wonderful. The audience reaction was very good. There was not just some giggles but out and out belly laughing. I'm not sure what critics look for in a film, but I found it thoroughly enjoyable. Trust The Man was a very enjoyable way to spend a summer evening. I found that David Duchovny is really a very good comedic actor. He was a stand out in this film. He and Julianne Moore have a wonderful on screen chemistry. Billy C and Maggie G also were adorable together. Many of the critics didn't care for the ending, but hell, I thought it was cute. Gave me some great laughs throughout. I'd give the cast a 10 and the plot a 7. I found the cast was able to rise above the script and make it a fun film to watch. There are far to few films out there today that appeal to adults. and Trust The Man hit the spot for me and my husband .
David's character Mike Kline was so far removed from Fox Mulder that this should finally shut the critics up that say David can only play one role. David was almost unrecognizable as this down trodden man who had his dream script completely turned inside out by the powers that be. He, in MHO was terrific as was the whole ensemble cast. Justine Bateman was very good as his wife and Sigourney was terrific as the network boss. The expressions on David's face were just amazing. He truly made you feel sorry for the man while you also had to laugh at his pain. I LOVED the film. And I can say for the first time that David was really skuzzy looking. Duchovny's expressions were priceless. This film has a truly wonderful ensemble cast. There is not a bad performance in the bunch. Bottom line . I think that this film is very smart, funny and kind of sad. You feel Mike's pain
I'd give this film 4 stars any day of the week
