Breaking Fast (2020)
This movie is an absolute delight!
BREAKING FAST is everything I love in a romcom. It's funny, sweet, and heartwarming, with completely relatable characters. It's an old school premise (2 characters fall in love over the holidays amidst a backdrop of shenanigans from friends and family), with a modern day twist (it's Ramadan instead of Christmas and the lead role is a gay, Arab, Muslim man!). Amin El Gamal (the best friend) and Rula Gardenier (the mom) are absolute scene stealers! And the chemistry between the 2 leads, Haaz Sleiman and Michael Cassidy, is palpable and sizzling. This movie is an absolute delight!
Kong: Skull Island (2017)
Big disappointment
I wanted to like this. I really did. I love all the actors. I love the Kong story. I love CGI and motion capture animals. This had all the elements that should have made for an incredibly entertaining film. But I was bored throughout.
Misfits (2009)
Fantastic binge-worthy British series
Season 1 is an unexpected delight. Robert Sheehan is absolutely brilliant. Hysterically funny but devastating. I quite missed him in the rest of the seasons, but Joseph Gilgun is a wonderful addition. For anyone who likes their superheroes raw, edgy, witty, self-deprecating, and REAL, this clever, unique series is for you. 10 stars. There's nothing else like it out there.
Mindhack: #savetheworld (2017)
Cool movie, unique concept, great acting
I loved this film. Small budget or not, it was refreshing to see something so unique. When have we ever seen something set in the seedy underground tech world of downtown LA?!?! I love the look of the film and the ambitious high concept. So great to see Scott Mechlowicz in something again. He's always so brilliant. Faran Tahir has never been more terrifying. I've loved Spencer Locke since "Monster House". And newcomer Chris Mason is a leading man with edge. And those piercing blue eyes!!! Bravo to everyone involved for making a movie so different from everything else out there. I highly recommend this film.
