Watch this excellent movie!
24 March 2013
I am not going to give anything away in this review other than what you know from the trailer. The White House is attacked and how!! The action is raw and the plot is tense. There is not a boring movie in this movie. I've given it 10/10.

Gerard Butler does a fantastic job as Secret Service agent Mike Banning and so do the other actors in this film. But Butler steals the show completely. The fight sequences are really good too with a lot of martial arts and weapons all over the place.

This will keep you glued to your seats wanting to know what happens next.

Agreed that it is in many ways a Die Hard clone, but I enjoyed this movie more than any of the Die Hard movies I've seen (I've seen all except Die Hard 4.0).

Watch this excellent movie. You will not be disappointed!

Battlestar Galactica (2004–2009)
10/10
The best sci-fi show ever!
22 August 2008
I was about six when I saw the original Battlestar Galactica back in 1978 or so and liked the show a lot. When I heard that a remake was being made I was excited and just got to watching it on DVD this year. I must say - I was blown away by this show! Now let's talk about why.

This remake while living up to the original plot of finding Earth is way better than the original. The acting by Edward James Olmos as Commander William Adama is perfect and he outshines Lorne Greene. All the other actors Jamie Bamber (Lee Adama), Mary McDonnel (Laura Roslin), James Callis (Gaius Baltar), Tricia Helfer (no. 6), Katee Sackhoff (Starbuck), Grace Park (Boomer), Michael Hogan (Colonel Tigh), Aaron Douglas (Chief Tyrol), Tahmoh Penikett (Karl Agathon) and all the others is just so good that in a few episodes you start really associating with the characters that they play.

What I like about this show more than anything else are the characters. The whole series is dominated by them and the events are actually secondary. All of the characters are flawed. They have all kinds of physical and emotional problems. But despite all that - they overcome and they rise to occasion. Even the 'bad' guys in the show are endearing. The sequences of Baltar with no. 6 are very original. The interpersonal relationships of this show really rule.

You really get into that world of the colonies - especially Caprica. They have their own swear words, sayings, religions, cultures, etc. and it is all so convincing that you actually forget that these are real 'earthlings' on screen. Yet, they are humans like us and are similar in many ways.

I really like all the attention to details to create a very unique world with its own character. Even the paper and books on this show are shaped differently.

The show has some really good special effects and there is a lot of attention to detail. The spaceships, planets, etc. are all very unique in design.

The opening credits are really cool and this is a show that is not to be missed. Warning!! DVD of this program is highly addictive and it is hard to not want to watch the next disk to know what happens next.

The only one thing that I missed from the original is the soundtrack. While I love the music in the opening credits, there could have been a few more instances where the music from the original Galactica could have played. By the way till Season 3 there are two very small scenes when the music is heard - in season one when the Galactica decommissioning ceremony is being held and the fighters are flying by and in season 2 in the documentary made by D'Anna.

The Omen (2006)
4/10
Nothing like the original. Background music not chilling like original
18 November 2006
Warning: Spoilers
This was a film that seemed to be almost exactly like the original except for a few added scenes in the beginning and a few changes in certain important scenes. Liev Schreiber has done a good job as Robert Thorn. Julia Stiles looks too young to be Damien's mother. The acting in many key scenes suck (especially the scene where the priest tells Thorn that he witnessed Damien's birth). This scene in the original Omen was so full of tension, which was totally absent here. He looked like he was just reading out his dialogs. The entire Omen chilling background chorus chants were missing like the scene in the original just before the priest gets the steeple through his chest.

The film could have been a lot better than this. If the directors plan to make a sequel, they need to reintroduce the chilling Omen background score in this.

Though some scenes were better. The graveyard scene in this is better than the original. The way Jennings is decapitated in this is better.

Damien does not look scary in this as compared to the original Damien (Harvey Stephens). Mia Farrow is completely lousy as Mrs. Baylock and is a total miscast. Even the dog in the original was way better. Over all, this is a waste of a remake.

V (1983)
10/10
Awesome show!!
18 July 2006
This is one of those rare epics that come only once in a blue moon. This is one of the best 'First Contact' genres ever made. No movie on the big screen so far - no, not Independence Day or even Close Encounters of the Third Kind (amongst my favorite films, I might add) have been able to give you the kind of goose pimples that watching 'V' gave me.

The ensemble cast with Marc Singer, Faye Grant, Jane Badler and others have done a fantastic job and Kenneth Johnson has done a superb job making this show. Not only is the storyline and plot very capturing, the characters in this really come to life and you actually get involved with them unlike many other shows. And this is even more amazing because there are SO MANY characters and each one of them has their own story which is depicted very well. I love the way the characters all start off in different settings and events and don't know each other, but gradually they come together.

The Nazi-esquire theme also works out well. The special effects for 1983 are cool enough to be used today and the lasagnas on 'V' are the absolutely coolest ones ever. Better than Star Trek 'phasers' or Star Wars 'blasters'. Not to mention the Mother Ships and the various classes of shuttles.

This is a good one and this is certainly something I am hoping they give more. Either a movie or a remake. There is supposed to be a 'V-The next generation' in the making. I can hardly wait!

Crash Landing (2005)
4/10
Comically entertaining
9 July 2006
Warning: Spoilers
I would have given this film a one star vote had it not been for the laughs I got out of it. Some of the dialogs were just plain so lame that they make you laugh!! How could some one have actually talked like this. Not to mention the fact that the bodyguard Majors (Antonio Sabato Jr.) flew a 747 like a pro and Michael Pare's team of whiners were able to dig a trench filled with gasoline and blow up a huge boulder in the nick of time. Did anyone notice the lame tribute to "Fantasy Island" with the guy saying "Boss, the plane!!" to Michael Pare just as the 747 comes in sight.

The only saving grace were the cute girls and even cuter female hijackers. Not to mention that the main hijacker deserved to die the lame death that he did for being such a joker!! Imagine escaping from being tied up just to shot by a "crossbow". Hello.

The poor pilot probably died in the plane while everyone was eating steak and having rum!! Just for laughs, they should make a sequel to show us how they all spend the night in the midst of a Category 3 hurricane on Neptune Atoll. Did I hear Michael Pare calling it the "best honeymoon resort in the Pacific." Now that would make an interesting movie!!

Black (2005)
10/10
Superb!
31 July 2005
I just saw "Black" and it was extremely well acted, well scripted and was just emotionally super charged. Amitabh and Rani shine in this film and you just feel so connected.

The setting in Shimla works really well. Sanjay Leela Bansali has done a superb job! The little girl has also acted very well.

If you want to see a movie that will touch you to the point of tears, this is the film. It really does a good job at portraying what a determined soul can do in spite of the most trying circumstances and also how a powerful teacher can be a catalyst towards transforming a young blind-deaf girl into an educated, intelligent woman who can live in dignity though she will always live surrounded by BLACK.

The 4400 (2004–2007)
10/10
Awesome!
27 July 2005
Just saw the complete First Season of 'The 4400' on DVD. In one word it was - Awesome! I had watched a few trailers of it last year and just kind of forgot about it. I saw it at the DVD store and picked it up. It blew me away! The acting is superb! The casting could not have been better. I think Joel Gretsch redeems himself from the Bad guy role he played in 'Taken'. I think his acting in The 4400 is great! Everyone has acted so well! The story is unique and different and not the run of the mill Alien abduction sequence. The effects are great and so is the music. This is just GREAT ALL THE WAY! The ending of the First Season is really good and without spoiling things for anyone -- you will be shocked and delighted at the same time!

Awesome film
24 May 2005
I am not going to spoil the fun for anyone who has not seen this film yet, but let me just say I have loved Star Wars since 1977 (when I was five years old) and I was a little disappointed with the first two prequels (although I think Attack of the Clones was not as bad as most people think). Anyways, all I am saying is that I saw 'Revenge of the Sith' twice in the theater and I loved it. Even my wife (who is NOT at all a Star Wars fan) loved this one! Lucas has finally delivered the goods this time and has connected this with episode 4 very well!

The acting is good, especially Ian McDiarmid as Palpatine really shines. The effects are mind blowing and the background music in some of the key scenes is very effective and pretty different for a Star Wars film. But it works great! See this film as soon as you can -- you will love it!

I don't know about anyone else, but I really hope he makes Episodes 7,8,9 (Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher are all still around still) so he can still do it and why shouldn't he? The Force is strong in this one!

Dragonfly (2002)

A spiritual ride that gives you goose pimples. A must see!
6 June 2003
This is a film that explores death and the possibility of contact with a departed soul. The film brings to mind James Redfield's Celestine Prophesy which says that a critical mass of spiritual activity is reached and manifested by a series of coincidences.

The film has been made in a very interesting and thought provoking way. Kevin Costner has done an excellent job in this role.

A magical ending brings goose pimples to you. This is a spiritual ride that should not be missed!
