Carodejuv ucen (1978)
Great work of animation
I saw this movie two years ago at a Zeman retrospective in Montreal and I was amazed. Not only was the story excellent, but who could have imagined that such an old movie from Czechoslovakia could be so well animated ? This is not Pixar, but there is a true master of animation at work here. I saw a couple of other movies from Zeman, but this was the best. Cross your fingers and hope your local art house shows this movie someday.
La grande séduction (2003)
Adorable
This movie is very funny and very touching. You feel for the down on their luck inhabitants fighting for a reason to get up in the morning. The doctor, who is incredibly naive, is charming. The villagers are not to stereotyped and the moral is not underlined for the viewers. Give this movie a chance and go see it.
Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003)
Flawed but damn good !
I really liked this movie. I had low expectations but it was excellent. Great action, good time-line tie-ins, o.k. acting. It has some plot holes (or rather easy omissions) but they did not spoil my fun. It manages the time-line, alternate futures problems pretty well. You and your friends will have good "but does it fit with the other two ?" conversations.
Le martien de Noël (1971)
nostalgia factor
I've seen this movie again recently and it is very dated. But I can remember loving it when I saw it some 25 years ago. It is low budget and simplistic, but it had kid appeal when we didn't have 200 tv stations to choose from and video stores at every corners.
