Overlord (2018)
Lazy Script, Generic Themes
Many of the negative reviews on this specific film are in regards to the historical inaccuracy of an integrated military unit with a black sergeant. Which is obviously a fair point but at the same time zombie soldiers (not a spoiler if you saw the trailer) aren't exactly an accurate description of WWII either so I don't think it's entirely necessary to get turned off by the fact that the movie portrays an integrated military squad. At least not if you view it as a fantasy "historical" film. Hollywood's goal is to make entertaining films not historically accurate ones. If you want something more accurate go watch Darkest Hour or Dunkirk.
The acting and dialogue is mediocre and generic at best and there is a lack of consistent tone setting. Which ranges from an unrealistically relaxed group of soldiers having corny and lighthearted dialogue to the tenuous scenes involving the stereotypical WWII German soldiers (cartoonish villains).
If you like meh acting with some special effects it may be worth watching otherwise maybe pass on this one.
Uncharted (2022)
Ok, just ok
Nothing amazing here but not a terrible way to spend two hours. If your expectations are a modern day Indiana Jones, this ain't it but an entertaining enough watch nonetheless.
The Gray Man (2022)
simple movie
"Six" is convict who is offered his freedom in return for working for the CIA as a field operative. If not for the simplistic plot and predictable storyline, this might have been a worthwhile watch.
The Informer (2019)
good crime/prison thriller
When an undercover drug bust goes wrong the informant gets thrown under the bus and must work undercover in prison to complete the assignment in order to return home to his family.
Day Shift (2022)
amusing in all of its absurdity
Jamie Foxx stars as a California vampire hunter who kills a vampire with relation to a vampire boss. He then must save his wife and daughter after they've been kidnapped.
The Wretched (2019)
dumb, just dumb
When a teenage boy becomes aware of a witch masquerading as women he knows, no one believes him. The movie could've had potential but there's no plot, backstory, or buildup of any substance.
You Are Not My Mother (2021)
better than the budget would suggest
By no means a horror film masterpiece, but given the relative obscurity of this movie it's worth checking out. Solid enough low budget horror thriller flick.
Detroit (2017)
an hour of interrogation within a movie
A very uncomfortable film but a well-made one. As with all "based on a true story" movies this one strays from the facts at times but regardless is interesting look into real event in American history.
Eight for Silver (2021)
the cursed 1 hr 51 minutes
A group of landowners massacre a band of gypsies laying claim to their land. A haunting of the estate ensues and Hulu again fails to release an intriguing horror film that doesn't disappoint.
American Assassin (2017)
solid action thriller
A young man who looks to avenge his girlfriend who murdered in a terrorist attack, joins a counterterrorism unit after being brought in by the CIA during a terrorist cell bust.
Candyman (2021)
suspenseful music isn't a good movie
After all the hype the film itself was disappointing. If you're going to make an 1 1/2 hour movie the pace needs to pick up. Instead the pace throughout the film feels as though it's going to be a 2 hr+ film. The production in terms of film work and soundtrack is great, the movie is disappointing in regards to storylines and plot.
The Mist (2007)
cheesy creature horror film
Reminiscent of the Tremors movie series, just without any of the good characteristics. A group of people from a small town in Louisiana congregate at a local grocery store and become trapped when when "creatures in the mist" start killing people outside. Poor CGI and plot make this a movie not worth watching.
Prey (2022)
awesome movie
Didn't even know that this was going to be a Predator prequel until I read the reviews, but as long as you aren't caught up in whether it's true to form in regards to the other Predator films it's a good watch and it's great to see Amber Midthunder get to play this role.
Carrie (2013)
decent modern adaptation
I could do without some of the generic over exaggerated high school drama, but as a whole the film was fine. Really not a "horror" film, more of an adapted superhero film but entertaining nonetheless.
White Chicks (2004)
absolute classic
This film is a borderline comedy masterpiece. If a comedic film is great it doesn't need a brilliant storyline. Too many people overthink comedy films. If you can enjoy humorous movies without overthinking them you'll like this one.
The Happening (2008)
set the blueprint for Bird Box
The same general storyline as Bird Box, just not as compelling or intense. The acting isn't great despite being a mainstream film. Ultimately not deserving to be called a bad film, but an entertaining movie nonetheless.
Wild Card (2015)
Roadhouse but in Las Vegas
This is the first Statham movie that I've actually thought was bad. Most are awesome, and a few at least solid. This film had potential but slowly went off-road. Ultimately just a movie about a bodyguard with a gambling addiction and a few brawl fighting scenes. No compelling storyline or plot. This one might be worth missing out on.
The Man from Toronto (2022)
it gets better..
Kevin Hart stars as a random guy underwhelming at life who gets mistaken for a mysterious criminal interrogator known as "the man from Toronto" and then proceeds to get caught up in the chaos of the crime underworld.
The Watch (2012)
starts slow, gets better
Four strangers from the same town in Ohio band together to form a neighborhood watch after a mall cop is grotesquely murdered. Not wildly hilarious but an entertaining film nonetheless.
John Dies at the End (2012)
American Horror Story meets Scary Movie
A new drug is discovered that can connect reality with the spirit world in this humorous "horror" adventure film. Amusing and absolutely absurd this is definitely worth watching.
Splinter (2008)
cheesy 60's/70's creature horror vibes
A couple who are held hostage in an vehicular theft situation, find themselves trapped in a gas station after stumbling upon a biological altering organism. A good movie despite some shaky camerawork throughout.
Black Mass (2015)
great crime/drama film
As convoluted and shaky as the storyline was at times, the movie itself was an entertaining watch and worth checking out for fans of this specific genre of film.
The Ruins (2008)
yet another in the "forest is alive" sub-genre
From CGI to at times even the acting/dialogue the film is underwhelming. The concept is fine despite being unoriginal, the production and "mood-setting" is lacking, which is a dealbreaker for me personally.
The Rental (2020)
not worthwhile at all
Two couples who apparently are also swingers or some nonsense, rent a vacation house for a weekend and nonsensical arguing and chaos ensues throughout the film.
I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry (2007)
another childish, yet fun Sandler film
Kevin James and Adam Sandler star as two fellow firefighters and best friends who decide to make a hustle by masquerading as a homosexual couple for financial benefits.
