This is a movie that flew under my radar for many years. I am big fan of films like ChinaTown and LA confidential which this movie is often compared to. Mulholland Falls definitely falls short of those classics but this film has its moments. Some of its cheesy , some of the plot points don't lead anywhere. But my god does Jennifer Connely look amazing in this movie. It's entertaining in the way Gangster Squad was, mostly style and not a ton of substance here. Nick Nolte is good in the lead but I wouldn't say it's his best performance. A good cast , not the best written movie though but Did I mention Jennifer Connely is in it.. She Should have been in it more in my opinion. She steals the scenes she's in and left an impression on me that I can't seem to shake . Also I enjoyed the score and cinematography. If you're looking for a light hearted throwback to old Los Angeles this could be a fun one to give a try.
This movie had everything that makes a great holiday film . It even has a lot of heart by the end . I would highly recommend you give this film a chance ! The standout was easily the lead child actor he was so great ! Steve Zahn really put in a wonderful performance as well . It takes a sort of princess bride formula of storytelling which I felt worked perfectly. This is a holiday hit .
