Young girls just don't get it. I'll be sure to teach my daughters young.
If anyone who is currently in high school, please read this!
I was watching this movie with my young cousin who is in high school and during the scene when they first kicked Stacy out of the lunch table, she said "well, I get it. Stacy was mad because she was talking to a boy Vanessa promised she'd help get her with. Wouldn't you be upset if your best friend spoke to a guy you liked?"
My response was this, "No, because he's NOT my BOYFRIEND."
I'll go further into what I told her while also telling you guys. So girls... listen up!
If a guy wants you, he will make it happen! He will make you FEEL WANTED. You need to understand that just because you have a crush on someone, doesn't mean they belong to you. And you don't belong to no one. You can't force someone to like you and you shouldn't hate someone just because the one person you want likes someone else. Don't take away happiness from anyone just because you couldn't have him or couldn't have her.
This next part is very important.
DO NOT get this confused with a friend who steals your boyfriend! That is not the same thing. Watch Odd Girl Out very carefully. I explained to my cousin that Tony was NEVER Stacys. He was just a boy she liked and so because she couldn't have him, she CHOSE to bully her best friend literally to her death. That's called JEALOUSY.
Be logical about the situation. TONY was NEVER Stacys boyfriend. Vanessa did NOT steal Tony from Stacy. Stacy was conceited and took her insecurities out on her best friend just because the boy she liked, chose her friend.
Yes, it sucks when someone you like doesn't like you back. We've all been there. But learn to move on and get over it. Their plenty of fish in the sea and NO, they DON'T all look the same. The right person will come to you. Don't be like Stacy and take your insecurities out of someone else just because you couldn't get what you want. I have changed my cousins entire perspective. And I'm glad I did. She looked at me and said, "actually you're so right."
I hope you picked up on something here girls. Learn from this movie, and be cautious of who you chose to be your friends!
