I haven't been keeping up with my IMDB reviews lately, but had to come back because whoever cast Emmy Raver-Lampman in the lead female role should be fired! She wasn't at all bad in Umbrella Academy so I don't know what happened here(?). Maybe directors fault??
But she was BAD with no facial or emotional reactions at appropriate times. If someone's Mom is scammed, and commits suicide, and they can exact revenge would they? Sure maybe, with grief and appropriate hard hearted determination. But her character never shows anything and jokes with coworkers like it's a normal day!! And relishes in getting a lead role in going after Jason Stratham character.
This distraction caused me to lower score on what should have been a great Jason Stratham vehicle! I just hope she's not there for part two. Please!!!

When you realize this movie is over 25 years old, it holds up pretty well.
I hadn't seen it in probably over a dozen of those years, and two of the parts most memorable to me, were great to see again. A Good Friday nite popcorn movie!
Charlie Sheen fits the movie style quite well and the acting from everyone overall not bad for a 90's movie. Over the top acting is pretty much standard for the 90's, and adds to the vibe.
It reminds me of The Invaders tv show from the 60's, with a physical giveaway to the aliens cover...but I think Independence Day copied this film's look and feel of the aliens best.

It's at first boring and dull and then slowly becomes a bit interesting...(the will he or won't he.)
But then it's back to the inevitable dull and boring.
Then interesting again but less so (the will he or won't he again!)
But I loved the Dominic character and the movie kinda runs over his storyline, which is actually the more interesting by the end.
And why are most of the villagers just background? No one helps bandage injuries or stop child abuse, or even be at the house at 2pm for the near conclusion when of course it spread to all on the island what was to occur.
Did I love the cinematography? Resounding yes.
Did I love the acting? Pretty much from all.
The directing, very good too.
But the story is ultimately what you'll remember and ensure you'll never want to watch this movie ever again. One and done as they say. At least for me.
End result...this would never be on my recommended list.
