Baka bukas (2016)
A Must-watch Movie
I'm really fond of films that doesn't need much cheesy lines to tell a story. The gestures, shots, and reactions are more than enough to convey how the characters are feeling towards each other. The cinematography is superb and the acting is very natural. I really admired Jasmine for her portrayal in this movie. Unlike the other reviews, I don't think they intended to portray lesbians as drunkards. The plot is beautifully made and very realistic. It is one of the best movies out there to watch.
Sword Art Online (2012)
Good concept, disappointing overall
I watched it because of the concept and overview of its plot indicated. The first few episodes were actually kinda good and it made look forward to the upcoming episodes. But after the first fight scene, the story just becomes dragging. I was hoping to see some action scenes or more stories about the game, but it was just like a common story placed in a setting where there are floors. The majority of the story revolves around romance and how great Kirito is with defeating the boss and with girls. It just portrays that Kirito is a flawless super human being who is admired by a lot of women. The story is lacking with depth which may be the reason why it is hard to understand and form connection among the characters.
The fight scenes are good in such a way that there is less talk, but it focuses on the ending (which is of course with Kirito winning) only. It would have been better to show the progress. The bond among the characters could have been built slowly and genuinely instead of being out of infatuation and lust. Most scenes are cliche as well.
One good thing again about this series are the plot twists. The imagination required to build such an idea is something to admire although the games are not actually explored in detail.
The series, overall, seems to be wishful thinking or fantasy of the writer or the creator about himself. With all the super human being, invincible, admired by every protagonist, and unnecessary shots/perspective stuff, I find it a bit unbearable to watch. I just tried to finish the season 1 for the sake of completing it. I did not bother watching the remaining seasons anymore.
The concept gave it a potential but the execution and the plot as a whole is poor.
Fan Girl (2020)
Deeper than what the title made it seem
It's more of an indie kind of movie. Great movie to watch if you wanted something serious and unconventional. Both of the main leads did really well! They are very natural when it comes to acting that I might find it hard to separate their movie role from their true selves. This movie deserves the awards they got from the MMFF. I thought this is something that is light and very typical but it isn't.
Extracurricular (2020)
Great series!
Fave kdrama series so far. No dull moments, no filler scenes, unique and good story, great actors, and nice cinematography. It was my first time seeing Park Ju Hyun (Bae Gyuri) here, and I became a fan right away. Every episode is worth watching and will hook you from the very beginning until the end. The students here are criminals but it's easy to empathize with them. I'm looking forward to season 2...
Joahamyeon Ullineun (2019)
Both seasons are to watch for
The season 1 seems to be lighter and much focused on the relationship between Kim Jojo and Sun Oh. Season 2 is more emotional and goes into a more serious tone. Season 1 will give you some plot twists and will make you ship Jojo and Sun Oh, whereas season 2 tackles the story in a more mature way and in a deeper level. Aside from romance and friendship, this series goes about personal growth, understanding oneself, and handling emotions. The actors were great and were able to portray the characters really well. The silence in between scenes helped in making the scenes more dramatic. The storyline is so good and the series as a whole is a bit unexpected for me. It was way different from the typical Korean dramas. If there's a way to improve these series, it would have been to remove scenes were actors (Yuk Jo, for example) are trying to act cute. Overall, it was very nice drama which I would definitely recommend to anyone who's looking for a decent series that offers good story, above average production, and effective actors. It also offered a nice way to end the series by the way.
The Good Place (2016)
Must-watch, good for your mind and soul
This is my first time giving a rate of 10/10 because this show really deserves it. Actors are perfect, they portrayed the characters really well and they are consistent since episode1. I don't really know most of the actors and throughout watching the series, Kristen Bell just gained another fan. I love all the characters and I'm gonna miss them! Despite the genre being comedy, this taught me more to life than any other series. It made me well aware of my own flaws and it gave me a new perspective on how to see life. I'm not really a fan of the concept of heaven and hell, and the concept of afterlife here made me even more wonder of might actually happen after we die. I also like how they emphasized of how good things should be done because it's the good thing to do and not because of some other corrupt motivation. The interpretation of several situations is really great, as well as the way messages are conveyed. I'm just glad I really watched it and I would always highly recommend this.
Hello, Love, Goodbye (2019)
Worth-watching, good story
Not a fan of the 2 lead actors, but I can say that they did a good job portraying the characters in this movie. Cinematography is good! The 2 leads have chemistry despite them not being paired at all before. However, they sound a bit awkward when delivering lines in english language. The story, most especially the ending part, makes it worth-watching. Good overall and probably the best Filipino movie among the others during that time, however, it is similar to the other mainstream Filipino movies. It would be better if the movie would be made subtle the way indie movies do.
The Hows of Us (2018)
Good production, Disappointing story
The cinematography is good and can be improved. Actors are not that bad. However, the story does not make it worth-watching. The male lead character doesn't seem to have changed that much when he returned. If I were the female lead, I would never choose such man. The good reviews maybe a bit biased because of the large fandom of KathNiel.
Seutateueob (2020)
Worth watching
This series is very inspiring and will help you learn more about how start up businesses work. Through this, I've learned that a company like Sandbox exists and the possible consequences that exist in that kind of world. It also made it clear for me to recognize the importance of AI technology and how tech companies function. Every episode is filled with stories and will make you want to watch more. What I really didn't like is the romance part. Dal Mi waited for the one who wrote her letters for 15 years and she liked him because of the character he was able to portray through those letters, just like the way we love the characters when reading novels. However, when Do San finally showed up and pretended to be the one who wrote the letters, she didn't questioned much about his character and his perspective. They weren't even able to talk about the things they wrote before which should have been the basis for their relationship in the first place. It started well and the story focused mainly on Ji Pyeong and Dal Mi in the first 2 episodes. However, in the following episodes, Ji Pyeong didn't even had much scenes. He had the best character in the series but it seems like he was always put aside. The scenes with Ms. Choi and JP were the best. Do San and Dal Mi should really end up together because they are both incomplete, needy, and immature. JP, on the other hand, is whole and deserves better. There is also not much growth in the characters during those 3 years. They are always saying that they have changed although they really didn't, aside from their clothing style. Also, JP and In Jae are the second lead though they didn't have much scenes. What Nam Do San also said in ep. 15 about wanting to not be a trophy is contradicting to what he said to his father before. Overall, it is a good series to watch and will really get you hooked till the end although it is not good that someone would choose a person with Do San's personality. The actors were also great and were able to portray the characters too well (the problem would have been in some of the characters). The ending is typical but good and could have been better.
Saikojiman Gwaenchanha (2020)
Good, but it could have been better
The intro is good, but I didn't find the first episode interesting as a whole. The camera shots were awesome as well as the transitions. What I like about the series is the way the female lead expresses her thoughts implicitly. The children stories laid out for each episode also contributed in making this series better. This drama also let you see the two sides of a story as well as the characters. All characters are flawed and made beautifully. A suggestion for improvement is to lessen the dull moments and fill each episode with more happenings. It was ended well though, I really like it. The female lead is also funny especially in episode 9.
Itaewon Keullasseu (2020)
Was amazingly good until episode 14
The story is typical, but the characters weren't. Even though the storyline is not something new, the way it was crafted is very good. The actors also did a great job in making the series worth watching. It was all good until episode 15 came. There was this kidnapping scene and the need for the prince charming to rescue her princess which I don't really like. As for the episode 16, there's a lot of unnecessary long stares and talking which shouldn't have took place if it's really an urgent situation. They should have also escaped already the moment they saw Yi Seo, but they chattered and made a drama. I also think that the romantic relationship between Yi Seo and Saeroyi is a bit forced (my opinion only). They could have just sticked to the romcom theme.
