Why Are You Like This (1981)
Why is this show like this?
A series that is supposed to be somewhat sarcastic, humourous and funny ends up being an absolute travesty. The jokes are not clever at all and the characters have literally no depth. I found the whole thing absolutely disgusting. What disgusted me the most though, was a scene in the first episode. In this scene we can see one of the main characters performing in drag, who has been clearly inspired by and using the name of JonBenet Ramsey. This is not okay. They crossed the line. How is this supposed to entertain or make anyone laugh? I'm beyond disappointed and frustrated in more ways that possible. Instead of creating a fun, inclusive series, they mocked and made fun of a dece*sed child and multiple cultures and religions.
Devil in Ohio (2022)
The devil wasn't in Ohio.
I had read some reviews before watching the mini series, so I can't say I was surprised to find out it is quite mediocre and uninteresting, but I wanted to see for myself. I was not impressed to say the least. The plot at first seems promising, but ends up being a "horror" wannabe cliché. The devil was nowhere to be found. The whole thing ends up being just a pointless game of tag. It's funny how they tried to add a couple of "scary" scenes that end up being either boring (e.g. Someone standing behind the main character while they're looking in the mirror.) or borderline ridiculous since they seem out of place at that time in the series. The series is not scary, it's not horror, it's a mediocre drama.
Eat Pray Love (2010)
My comfort movie.
Its the kind of movie you would watch when you're sad, tired...when you need a warm hug and a cup of hot tea. It's nothing special, but it comes with a sweet aftertaste. Don't get me wrong, it's a good movie...just not the kind you would go to the cinema to watch with friends or a date. It's definitely the perfect movie to watch relaxed on your couch after a long tiring day.
Détrompez-vous (2007)
A simple yet heartwarming film.
Let's be honest. This is not some amazing, life-changing movie. It's one really simple, relaxing, slightly funny (enough to get you in a good mood) movie. I believe that was the purpose of it all along, it's not supposed to shock or move you, it's supposed to make you feel comfortable and cosy. That's exactly why i gave it a good rating. Ideally, watch it on a calm Sunday evening with your partner, in bed, eating sweets.
The Last Letter from Your Lover (2021)
Finally a Netflix original movie worth watching.
I'm not a big fan of romantic films. I usually get bored and never make it to the end of the movie. This one though, really spoke to me. I absolutely loved the acting, the plot, the scenery was beautiful... I honestly have nothing bad to say (strangely enough since this is a Netflix original movie). I was hesitant at first, I was not expecting anything impressive or out of the ordinary, but this film definitely proved me wrong. It's both emotional and romantic but realistic and raw at the same time. In case you haven't watched it yet, give it a shot, it's worth it.
I Care a Lot (2020)
This movie really made me upset.
The protagonist, a woman named Marla, takes advantage of elderly, but healthy and sane people, after she becomes their legal guardian using some gaps in the legal system. She drugs them, sells their homes and their belongings, doesn't let them see or talk to their loved ones, and uses her power over them to get what she wants money wise.
The real issue here is that, the script writers want us viewers to like and feel for Marla, which is nearly impossible. How could anyone sympathize with her; She doesn't care for anyone but herself and her significant other, she ruins peoples lives, doesn't have any character development and overall she is a horrible person. She made all these people live for several years alone only to die miserable and lonely without their families.
Im glad she got shot by that poor guy in the end of the movie. I actually felt relieved.
Dark Places, Deadly Illusions (2021)
meh.
The movie was meh. Davis is a great actress but didn't perfom well in this movie. I don't blame her, the plot is pretty boring and unimaginative. I was hoping for a good psychological thriller, but all I got was a mediocre predictable drama. The only real use for this film is to let it play as you sleep for white noise, since its pretty quiet and slow.
Midsommar (2019)
WARNING. DO NOT WATCH. AWFUL.
Watching this movie is pointless. Im so pissed off i wasted two hours of my life on this. The characters just scream uncontrollably, run around, or get high the whole time. The ending is dull and stupid. Do yourself a favour and pick another film for movie night.
