The Iron Claw (2023)
A BEAUTIFUL, DEVASTATING FILM
I'm currently leaving the movie theater speechless and emotional. I am completely gutted.
This movie sheds a whole new light on the wrestling world...but also on the tragic story of wrestling's most famous family. I went into this film only knowing the basics of this family's story and I'm leaving wanting to know more.
The performances in this movie are beyond incredible. Obviously Zac Efron is a very recognizable face in Hollywood. But in this you forget you are watching him because he is completely lost in this character. Jeremy Allen White, Harris Dickinson, and Stanley Simons all give equally fantastic performances as his brothers.
THIS IS NOT A MOVIE YOU WANT TO MISS.
Five Nights at Freddy's (2023)
GREAT INTRO TO HORROR FILM
I went in not knowing anything about FNAF...but now I'm obsessed. It's a great horror concept, and I can now understand the craze and cult following.
As far as the movie goes I thought it was excellent. That hour and fifty minutes flew by and left me wanting more. Hopefully sequels are in the works. I'm hearing rumors that they are!
The performances are excellent...especially Josh Hutcherson and Matthew Lillard who never seem to disappoint in any project they work on. Matthew Lillard is the stand out for me who really earned his paycheck for this movie and made the most of his couple of scenes.
I think this would be a great intro horror film for young people.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023)
SOLID FOR A 5th MOVIE
Was it great? No. Was it watchable? Yes. Harrison ford always steals the show no matter what the content is. A true professional and veteran at the craft. Was not a fan of the female lead. Very aggressive and annoying and nagging and argumentative. Like.... I think Indiana jones knows what he's doing at this point. He doesn't need you arguing every decision he makes. Chemistry just wasn't there. I LOVED Mads Mikelssen as the antagonist along with Boyd Holbrook as his sadistic right hand man. Very convincing...Mads never disappoints. Wish there was more content for Antonio Banderas though...I was very intrigued when we met this character only to leave him after only 10 minutes of screen time. Not the best Indian Jones film...but definitely better than Crystal Skull.
Sound of Freedom (2023)
MESSAGE OVER QUALITY
Going into this film I wasn't expecting the low budget approach...based on what I was seeing online I thought it was a bigger budget film. Overall the acting was great...the editing was a little under done at certain points...lots of stills on faces for longer than needed and weird fades into other scenes. Regardless of that the message of this movie trumps it all...bringing awareness to something that is overlooked and has been for years is the most important part. I especially liked the special message from Tim...the actor who played Tim Ballard...during the credits of the movie. That message was probably the most powerful point of the whole experience. I do think everyone needs to see this movie!
Nitram (2021)
Absolutely Devastating...
As an American I was completely blind to the events that happened in Port Arthur in 1996...it was only a couple years ago that a suggested video popped up on my YouTube about the events. I'm sure this was a hard watch for the people of Australia...because it was hard for me to watch as an American who wasn't even born when these events happened.
The performances were outstanding in this film. I've followed Caleb Landry Jones ever since his breakout roles in Get Out and Three Billboards...and he has definitely out done himself in this role. I wish more people would see this movie because he could definitely snag an Oscar nom if they did.
Barbarian (2022)
SOLID HORROR...RUSHED ENDING
The first thing I'd like to say about this film is that they definitely nailed the prosthetics for the "mother" character. Truly transforming and terrifying. I'm also fairly biased because I'm familiar with the actor that played the mother being that he's a Broadway performer that was in one of my all time favorite musicals, "Side Show", where he also wore prosthetics! His way of being terrifing quickly flipped to somewhat endearing towards the end of the film was truly a feat! The story was okay...as is every horror movie...un needed middle plot lines and a rushed ending not really focusing on the things we want to know about! But overall a solid horror film. Don't think it's the best of the year though! I preferred both smile and black phone!
Smile (2022)
DIDNT EXPECT WHAT I JUST WATCHED
Going into this movie based on the trailer I kinda knew what I was getting myself into...but it was so much more than that! The storyline was very well drawn out...the jump scares were terrific. There may have been one too many...but hey...what's a gory horror movie without unexpected, uneccesary jump scares. Another thing I'd like to note is the incredible acting done by this seemingly unknown ensemble cast! It was halfway through the movie that I realized the leading lady was Kevin bacons daughter! And they really found people with the creepiest smile and dead eyes to portray all of our smiling villains! Overall this movie was very enjoyable and scary!
House of Gucci (2021)
GREAT Performances...blah movie.
I knew going in that this movie relied heavily on its actors to keep the audience engaged with this less than entertaining story. Lady Gaga proves once again that she deserves to be running with the A listers of Hollywood. But my personal favorite performance in this film was Adam Driver. I've seen pretty much all his films. But his performance in this movie was beyond anything he's done!
Nope (2022)
Left the theater wanting more....
Great performances...great special effects...but I left the theater wanting way more from the story. And yes I am comparing this to two really good Peele movies that came before this one. Just wasn't for me.
The Batman (2022)
PERFECTION!!!
When you watch a three hour movie....and it feels nothing close to three hours....and leaves you wanting more...it's a perfect movie!! I still say though that Bale is better Bruce Wayne and Pattinson is the better Batman!!! Can't wait for the next one!!
Rocketman (2019)
ALL TIME FAVORITE
There is literally no flaws in this movie in my opinion. The acting is PHENOMENAL. The music is obviously BRILLIANT. And learning more about Elton John's past while watching this made me become obsessed with the legend!!
Asking for It (2021)
Ehhhh
Tried to be something like promising young woman...but it just didn't land. Waaaaay too aggressive with the message they were trying to portray. Great acting in moments though!!
Joe vs Carole (2022)
WORTH THE WATCH!
Is it perfect? No. Is it clear the direction they were going in? No. Was the acting good? YES. Is it worth the watch? YES. John Cameron Mitchell does it again with one of his over the top characters! And who knew Kate McKinnon could ACT?!?
The Power of the Dog (2021)
GREAT PERFORMANCES!
Story wasn't as good as I thought it would be...very much a slow burn movie. BUT....excellent performances all around as expected. Standouts are Benedict and Kodi Smit McPhee!!! Oscar noms coming their way hopefully!
Pig (2021)
Average movie with GREAT PERFORMANCES
The story didn't get me like I wanted it to...but the performances were EXCELLENT. Nicolas Cage...who's been doing some out of this world projects lately (including this one) really knocks it out of the park! But I think the best performance in this movie is the one from Alex Wolff! I would definitely keep him on your radar for up and coming stars!
Dallas Buyers Club (2013)
BEST MOVIE OF THE DECADE
Best performances I've seen by an ensemble in a LONG time! A MUST WATCH!! The transformation that Leto makes is unbelievable! Definitely worthy of the Oscar he received!
The Guilty (2021)
JAKE. GYLLENHAAL.
This movie would have been a snooze if it didn't have a solid leading man to look at the whole time. This is definitely one of Gyllenhaal's best performances....and he has a lot!!
Promising Young Woman (2020)
BEST MOVIE I'VE SEEN IN A LOOOOOOONG TIME!
Wow. Wow. Wow. No words after watching this film. Watch it. It's very important. Very very important. This movie deserves ALL the Oscars!!!
Cowboys (2020)
STEVE ZAHN GIVES US HIS BEST!
Steve Zahn gives his all as an understanding father who wants what's right for his son. This may possibly be his best performance...given that he rarely does dramas. A MUST WATCH!!
