Really, why this remake? If you enjoy seeing children tortured and exposed to horrendous violence, then I guess you'll be into this trivial piece of drivel. I've noted that most reviews cite McAvoy's performance as outstanding but lots of snarls and screaming do not make a great performance. The children won the acting honors here especially the little boy. There were so many reasons for this couple to refuse the invitation from this strange guy, but once there the fact that McAvoy's and Aisling Franciosi's characters set up Mackenzie Davis' daughter to sleep on the floor in an attic with the little boy who was baying at the moon! No joke, the parents of the little girl didn't even go up to check on her. Irrational, sloppy script.
Terrible script with few memorable scenes. The interactions between characters are extremely cold. Daisy Edgar Jones seemed bored throughout the entire flick even in the tornado scenes but especially in here scenes with Powell. I think Powell took the acting honors here. He tried to bring emotion into a relatively emotionless film. There was nothing innovative in the special effects, lots of car chases, and then predictably wind efx--you could almost see the wind and rain machines off camera. I never felt a real sense of danger or dread at the approaching tornadoes. I didn't get a sense of the authentic Oklahoma, but the producers and director certainly did meet Hollywood's DEI requirements.
I haven't hated a movie as much as this since I saw FRESH. No one in this story is worth caring about. Gore and blood for shock sake and nothing more. The script is ridiculous filled with absurd coincidences and mercenary lunatics. Why Kristen Stewart continues to take these roles which are written so poorly with scant dialogue scenes and perverse violence is a mystery to me. Her performance here is just phoned in and Ed Harris' is grand guignol, in fact the entire movie is grand guignol---sensationalism for its own sake. Certainly not even worth the $3.99 I paid to rent it. The movie has no visual style like BOUND which some people have compared it to. Love Lies Bleeding is uninspired shock shlock, derivative and ultimately crass and ludicrous. A vomit inducing piece of trash.
