She gives her magic in everything she ever did.. This is stage bound and basically a two character study about an angry playwright and a great actress he wants to do his play. George Maharas does his best Brando or James Dean or Paul Newman routine but he is not one of them. Simone is glorious but stuck in a rather dull vehicle. The subject about whether she will do this play or not is the main focus and just not enough to make this interesting to see except for HER. There is a lot of talk but no action and a lot of emotion but hard to believe. But when Simone is talking and or in close up you cannot take your eyes off her.
Only about one hour long, starring Jane Wyatt, it managed to keep my attention and was sincere if a bit short in quality and detail. A programmer from Universal with a B cast but half way decent production values though obviously made in the studio. The other female lead is Julie Bishop who rarely appeared in A pictures but had a rather long career and did some work at Warner Brothers; Jane Wyatt of course went on to big success in TV as wife in FATHER KNOWS BEST and part of the StarTrek Gang too. The two leading men Lowell Gillmore and Peter Cookson also appeared mostly in B movies. A young Milburn Stone, another TV fixture, also appears. There are some cute monkeys and a few jungle animals appear in stock footage that is not very convincing.
Jean Rogers, never became a big star, but was always delightful Ditto Paul Langton as her husband. The kid and the dog are adorable. An unusual plot about a dog who was a thief but with no bad intentions; Short and charming. Could have been a bit longer. One hour is not enough time to tell this story about a soldier coming home after the war to his family and their simple life made complicated by their dog. I do not know if the dog did other movies but should have. The boy never became a child star but had a long career. Jean Rogers was lovely and I love her speaking voice. She never got the breaks she deserved and is totally forgotten today.
