Alice & Jack (2023–2024)

in the words of Alice...exhausting and brutal
24 April 2024
The acting in this series is amazing, the main characters are fully fleshed out through the series, at first I hated them and almost gave up on the whole thing a few times, but they kept drawing me in and we are finally given a brutal, exhausting, yet somehow satisfying conclusion. I felt that the series challenged me and what I was prepared to accept and also made me judge my judgements. I dropped a few points because the periphery players may have got a bit more time. Aisling Bea was really out of her comedic comfort zone here and put in a convincing run, Aimee Lou Wood was great but I felt that relationship had more to add to my experience and finally Sunil Patel's character needs its own much more cheerful spinoff as he did a stellar job and was totally convincing.

Episode 1 - Report goes on a Jolly around the world.
31 March 2024
I am afraid this is just another climate change documentary which is made for the camera man and reporter to fly around the world and get arty shots.

The title of this documentary is Rising Tides: Ireland's Future in a Warmer World, well there are some rising tides and about minute and half on Ireland and the rest is isolated points around the world and what they are discovering there. This type of information is available much more succinctly in Greta Insta feed.

Maybe in future episodes they will adhere closer to the title but so far get bored by perma frost and melting ice at the north of the plant...yawn.

Great, fresh alt timeline series
29 January 2023
This show should not be compared to the US YA equivalents, this is very British and the settings and tone is fresh. It shows you do not need loads of profanity or sexualisation of teens to produce a show with tension and relevance. I like the hearkening back to 80s and 90s with music and some of the cars as if the timeline got broken with the rising of the ghosts. A lot of the CGI is really well done and seems to be a step above some of its peers adding to tension, it was more ghost story scare than horrifying images, so will be 100% fine for its teen audience. I binged the series over the first weekend and it never felt like it was dragging or being repetitive. From a review I read I was expecting individual episodic stories but that was not the case and it was a continuous story which mostly reached a conclusion and enough of a glimpse at what the next series will be about for me to cross my fingers for renewal.

So important
18 January 2023
Fantastic acting and story of compassion in the face to adversity that leads to one of the major discourses that I feel we need to address in our society. Nobody understands how important it is unless they have been touched by someone who's passing could have been made so much more dignified by having a choice.

This series really touches upon the most important points and that is one of personal choice, many people are against someone having this choice on grounds of religion or lack of understanding of the suffering, but who is right to impose their opinion on others, however, currently in the UK it is the law and this is where the change needs to happen to match the more progressive societies which have already approved a change to allow dignity in dying.

I enjoyed the fact that rather than everyone getting on a plane in harmony, the internal battles of the three main characters are followed all the way to the end. I dropped one point as I think an important part of the issue is also how those that are left are affected.

The younger 80s back story was very interesting and important part of the character development and fairly well acted but the main lead was the standout for me, Tom Curren just went above and beyond for me and should be an award winning performance..

Great bit if history

Great start to a series I did not even know was going to exist. Having tracked surfing I know where this story ends however I never had any idea what it took to get there. Watching Garretts passion is inspiring and I almost cheered at the screen when Cotton turned up. Kudos to the administration in Portugal for support what what have seemed to be a bunch of crazies at the time and ended up creating a whole industry there.

Great story from NZ
5 February 2012
So basically it does not have the production values of Supernatural or some other show from the US but I have been brought up on the cheap sets of Dr Who which requires a more interesting storyline and in that respect if you go into this show with low expectations you will actually end up impressed.

Going through the list of actors you can see that there is not much experience but they all pull together really well, I especially like Anders character as he adds a certain amount of lightness to the darker back stories and the Thor character from one episode was laugh out loud funny. I would certainly not classify this as a comedy but more of a light hearted supernatural drama.

I have just watch the first series through in three day and can't wait for the second season to air and really hope the good story pace and sharp writing is continued.

Excellent and informative

How scary is it when heads of the IPCC and Greenpeace say that global warming is not what the press says it is?

This is a must watch for anyone who feels guilty for owning gas guzzling cars. Read it in conjunction of State of Fear and then watch Al Gore's Inconvenient Truth and see who you wish to trust for the future! Still none of these mentioned that the ozone hole over Australia has nearly closed, why not?

Why is it that time and time against scientists are misquoted and their data manipulated and when they ask for a retraction they are just ignored. The lawyers are ruling the world!
