Playing God (2021)
some pacing issues, but not bad
I would say solid camera work, decent direction, pleasant performances overall. Some confusing moments, some pacing issues, but it also had some good moments.
If you have nothing else to watch and don't mind some religious undertones here and there, give it a try...
Game Day (2017)
game on
Pleasant movie with a bit of a preachy message. The preachiness is mellow enough to enjoy the movie.
Family-friendly movie, minimal amount of unpleasant things on screen
Minimal spoiler, not really :-) the story happens in Chicago, and one of the main characters mentions restroom instead of washroom which took me by surprise :D.
Kung Fu Mulan (2020)
5/10 it's not that bad
5/10 it's not that bad
It's pretty obvious that the $15 million budget was for money laundering, and for the actual movie only $100,000 was used. Just kidding, maybe they threw out the window $15 million :-)
Anyways, I was surprised to actually enjoy it. There were bits and pieces of brilliancy here and there. I would say children under 10 would enjoy it no problem. Yes, voice acting is uneven. Yes, the animation is kinda choppy. Yes to any fault you find.
But in the end, once again, I actually enjoyed it. I kept feeling I'm watching an extended cutscene from Bioware's Jade Empire, and if you are patient to the end of the movie and you also know the game I mentioned, you will see why :-)
Le prince oublié (2020)
Wonderful story about the circle of life
8/10. I gave it a 10 because I think the current 5.1 is way too low
The story follows a single father very dedicated to provide a happy growing up experience to his daughter by way of storytelling. All is well until teenhood interferes, so both father and daughter have to learn to handle it :-)
The costumes in the story world are bright and happy. The real life story is honest but also positive.
I personally did not find anything wrong with the movie, it's message, its direction, its acting, etc.
The only reason I think it's an 8/10 is because of me: I'm a grown up and not a parent. Still I rated it 10/10 because I don't understand the current 5.1 rating. Who hurt you? :D
Ngok yan guk (2016)
Funny classic Hong Kong comedy
7/10. I gave it 10 rating because I think it's current slightly below 5 rating is unfair.
If you're familiar with Stephen Chow's style, this movie is very similar. It also has heartwarming moments, plus it's nice to see the main characters transforming into better people throughout the movie.
All in all, good times. 7/10
Les crevettes pailletées (2019)
Random humans doing happy random stuff
I classify myself as a human being. Other human beings classify me as a straight white male. I still classify myself as a human being. I enjoyed this movie, seeing random humans doing happy random stuff. It's confusing that my fellow humans don't know 2nd article of UDHR.
