Sector 36 (2024)
Woah! That was intense.
Netflix dropped a "true-crime" movie loosely based the 2006 Nithari Killings in Noida, starring Vikrant Massey as the bad guy. A very interesting choice by someone who's on an upward trajectory, not sure if anyone else would have chosen to play this role at this stage of their career; I suppose the idea was, "I can show some range!" and boy does he show range. Him and Deepak Dobriyal, who plays the cop, knock it out the park in the very disturbing story, portrayed in a dark manner.
The film isn't like your typical crime thriller but expect this film to keep you glued to the tv regardless. It also raises several questions about the criminal justice system and the role that the police force plays. Not sure if the lack of answers is a minus against the movie or for the viewers to answer, but in reading up about the case, I was like, "Whoa this...is crazy!"
Since the film is adapted, the story takes some liberties to explore paths that probably didn't happen in real life and I don't know if that was done to add cinematic value, especially towards the end of the film. Not sure if the film would felt extra dark and heavy if it weren't for these liberties. Regardless, I'd totally recommend this film. Don't watch it with kids around. Probably not for the faint hearted either.
The Fall Guy (2024)
Fun movie!
I heard "From the makers of Bullet Train, about the life of a stunt-crew member" Bullet Train was...something different, so I thought, sign me up. Then I heard Ryan and Emily were in it and it's likely gonna be a rom-com of sorts.....not sure how they were gonna pull this off, but boy this was a fun film.
Fun action. Fun dialogues. Not LOL, but surely chuckle worthy humor. Ryan and Emily have a good on-screen chemistry! But the film, more than anything else, is an ode to the stunt performers in the industry. Why there are no "Best Oscar for Stunts" still is beyond me. There are a lot of references to this and they show you why the stunt-crew is important to the success of the film. I had made up my mind that the story was going to be logic-less, but it was surprisingly more engaging than I thought.
The duration of the film was being dunked on for being 2-hrs long, I caught the extended version at 2:20, and parts of the film did make me feel that it was dragging along but not enough to complain about it.
If you liked Bullet Train, you'll like this. It's a fun movie, apparently based on a tv show a similar premise. Huh. Didn't know.
Chilli Chicken (2024)
Fell apart in the 2nd half, but would recommend.
The film opens with a question on if we value life at birth or at death, and with text that says Bengaluru is the 2nd largest home to migrants in India after Mumbai, making up 51% of the city's population, making it one of the most ethnically diverse cities in the country.
This story is about 4 such individuals from Manipur who work at "Noodle House" and the local owner, who, much like the workers, also wants a better life and hopes to build a "Noodle Palace".
The four of them speak Kannada and one of them is in a proper relationship with a Kannadiga and none of that feels forced (vs the Kannada imposition narrative that you see online) thanks to a decent amount of time spent in the first half in the world building. There are several messages, on cultural assimilation, old values vs the changing world, how (un)welcoming a place can be to outsiders, how you've got to "Put up with the rain, if you want the rainbow" etc., thrown at you very subtly and not in a preachy way which makes you feel like this is a film that's surely gonna be a "lighthearted serious movie".
There's a 'twist' about halfway through and for me, the film fell apart from there. The story couldn't decide if it wanted to answer the question about the value life, or if it wanted to tell the migrant story and in a bid to address both, it ended up doing a little too much for my liking and went all over the place.
That said, the film is being well received and many seem to like it, so you may too. This is apparently the director's first film - decent first one, IMO. We also don't get a lot of films on addressing the lives of folks from the North Eastern parts of the country in other parts of India, so this provides a glimpse of what it's like and how the work/sacrifices you've got to make for dreams and aspirations, regardless of where you are from and where you live, are similar. Support the story and the first-timer, especially if you're looking for something different.
Terminator Zero (2024)
Enjoyed it! I could nitpick and find flaws, but, no. This was GOOD overall.
As a fan of the OG Terminator (Tr) movies, the announcement for an official Tr anime...by the animators of Ghost in the Shell...had me intrigued. But knowing what has become of the franchise in the recent past, I remained skeptical.
It released on Netflix on...sure enough, August 29 aka Judgment Day in the Tr lore. This show is really good (minus a couple logic issues which we'll get to) and a lot of people are calling this the best thing in the franchise since the James Cameron movies in 1991.
The show has 8 episodes, < 30 mins each ; a quick binge. You don't have to know anything about the previous movies to watch this show, could be a standalone show if you want it to be. There are several 'easter-eggs' to the first two movies that you'd appreciate if you've seen the films but it is not a necessity. Tr has one of the most iconic themes in film history and while there's a callback, the music for this show is solid as well.
The story (with a touch of a Nolan-eqsue ending), very relevant in the age of AI that we live in, ends up being slightly more philosophical than I'd expected but no complaints. A couple characters familiar with Tr and what its capable of engage in a hand-to-hand combat with it, didn't know how to feel about that, but I chose not to nitpick.
Overall - A very faithful adaptation of the series with a different take on it while retaining the originality; you've got to watch it for that to make sense. Fans of the movies need to watch this! Non-fans will likely end up watching it and then will go watch the movies. Win-win IMO.
Munjya (2024)
Surely worth a one-time watch!
Based on a Maharashtrian folklore, this is the 4th film in the Maddock Supernatural Universe, still makes waves as it almost broke into the top 5 highest grossing Hindi films of the year so far. Everyone's been calling it a sleeper hit; with Stree 2 being a massive hit and this being a part of the 'MSU', I'd been eager to watch this one for a while.
- Abhay Verma, Sharvari and the supporting cast were great in the film. I don't know who decided to bring Satyaraj in, but interesting choice.
- The film is a horror comedy and could have easily ended up being a Stree (2) (which might end up being criticism held against the film- that wasn't as funny as Stree) but I'm glad it wasn't. The audience would have said "It's just like Stree but with a different ghost, what's the point....!?"; damned if you do, damned if you don't. But I am in the 'Glad it wasn't like Stree' camp.
- Glad Bittu's character was portrayed the way it was (anything more would spoil it) vs what I expected. Spielberg tries to do what the Stree trio does and while he obviously isn't and can't be the trio, he does well enough to add to the comedy.
- Shoutout to the VFX team - you could tell it was graphics but it was done well!
- Couldn't help but appreciate how some cultural practices in the Konkan region are very similar to other parts of the country.
The film isn't anything mindblowing, you're likely going to find Stree (2) to be more entertaining and provide more value for your time/money but this isn't a bad movie at all. Curious to see how they bring the MSU together but now that Akshay Kumar is in it, I have a bad feeling about it.
Twisters (2024)
GOOD!
If you liked the original Twisters, you're gonna like this one. The chemistry between Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell was good, much like the first one but the star of the film was the 'once in a generation' storm. With the advancement in technologies, the storms were visually better in this one.
The science team chasing the tornadoes vs the Youtubers was a nice touch, since people chasing storms for views online wasn't a thing back then. Capitalism, influencers, celebrity culture slightly being tied into this whole thing was a nice touch as well.
Glen Powell is on his way to superstardom, i didn't think I'd watch 3 of his movies in the first 8 months of the year. I was expecting him play a certain role in the climax but he didn't, which I was pleasantly surprised by. The technical jargon in the first movie is in the second as well, it'll not bother you though.
For disaster movies/monster movies, filmmakers choose to bring the 'human part' in and it tends up being overplayed, makes you think "Bruh I'm just here to see the monster/tornado and not the human drama. Why?" There was a decent amount of human drama and the interpersonal, but it wasn't overdone and IMO, it was done just enough to make you care about Kate, who is technically the lead in the film (you'll know why once you watch it) Daisy was good with what she did.
The cinematography lowkey shows how vast and open Oklahoma is and that added to the visual value. There was a scene with the swimming pool that had me scratching my head and common sense tells me that that shouldn't be possible, but perhaps there's some science behind it that I don't know of/am aware of.
Overall - it's a 'big dumb fun' film that you'll enjoy, especially if you enjoyed the first one. Science vs Sensationalism at first, and the movie goes on make a case for why the both of them need to work together for the greater good was good takeaway.
The Silence of the Lambs (1991)
Awesome!
Only took me 30+ years to watch this classic, only to wish I had watched it at least 10 years sooner, but never late than ever I guess. If you've been living under the same rock as me, drop everything else on your watchlist and watch this crime thriller; it won't hit the same because you already have/would have consumed more/other mind-blowing crime dramas by then.
The storyline was unique even for me, someone who's watched hella content, I'm jealous of people who got to watch this film when it actually released. I don't think they'd have watched anything like this before. Curious to see if this got remade elsewhere and how it was received.
IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack (2024)
Could have been a 2.5 hr movie.
I was a kid back when this happened, I remember seeing news clips (on NDTV...?) of the plane and the elders discussing this away at lengths. This show, all these years later, provides context to what happened back then.
Some liberties have been taken, the director said, (I am not sure what parts) but for the most part, this seems to be a faithful retelling of the true events, reviews seem to say.
I don't think the doc. Takes any sides per say it is more of a 'piece of documentation' of history for people (and the generation born much after) who didn't know anything about the hijacking of the plane beyond what was shown on tv; the turmoil that folks had to go through for 7 days...oof. Would recommend.
Chutney Sambar (2024)
Would totally recommend!
If you're in the mood for feel-good Tamil content that you can watch with your family look no further. Also, a unique story that you may not have come across before.
Yogi Babu's been in almost everything over the last 5 years, not sure if folks are even concerned about overexposure especially with very limited screentime and dialogues that are mostly chuckle-worthy at best. I was very hesitant about this show but so glad this venture worked, partly because Yogi Babu is the lead and gets several episodes' worth of screentime.
The show's got good emotions, funny moments, also gives you a few things to thing about. 6 episodes, ~ 40 mins each, you wish there was more of it but glad they kept it short and ended the way they did. You'll definitely finish watching this and feel like it was time well spent.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (2024)
If you enjoyed Mad Max, you'll like this film but it's exactly the same kind of film.
Would love to see Chris Hemsworth in a Pirates of the Caribbean movie.
This was a good origins movie. Given the awesome craziness that Mad Max was, I wasn't sure what to expect from this one; it ended up being very different from Mad Max. It was crazy enough for a good character based drama though.
ATJ was good! But the show-stealer in my books was Chris Hemsworth. This could have gone very wrong but it ended up the opposite, I couldn't un-hear Jack Sparrow during this film. The story development with Furiosa and Praetorian Jack (who was also done well) was done well enough that you cared what happened to the characters.
Good cinematography, sound design and sets - what you'd expect from a Max Max film. The film was shot in Australia vs Namibia, and I don't think I could tell a difference; minus the sand. The way in which they ended the film was noteworthy, I liked what they did with the climax and the tie-back to Mad Max.
Overall - If you enjoyed Mad Max, you'll like this film but it's exactly the same kind of film. Surely a good movie, not sure why it wasn't a box office hit.
Longlegs (2024)
Wish they hadn't said this was scary!
Fans of the (psych.) horror & crime thriller genre - this should be on your list. Lee Harker, a new FBI agent is assigned to a 30-yr old serial murder case, the investigation for which takes a turn to reveal that there's something much larger at play. Several comparisons to Silence of the Lambs, to Zodiac, etc.
Nicolas Cage is film but his face/look doesn't show up in the trailers or any of the marketing for the film. Interesting decision. He was great with whatever he did. Maika Monroe, the FBI agent, was great.
Production design, sound design, editing and cinematography need special mention here. There are several wide shots of the subject on screen, and you can't help but see what going on in the background because you're conditioned to see someone/ something move in the background in horror films - and you'll still miss it.
Given how the film was shot and the atmosphere, I'd recommend that you watch this....not with a lot of daylight. Watching it at night will make you receive this film in a much different way.
I don't know if it's just marketing by the filmmakers or if this came from the audience, but I've seen a lot of "Scariest movie of the decade" and "Nightmare fuel" and so on about this film. It wasn't that, not sure if this had set false expectations that didn't make me appreciate it as much as I would have.
If Longlegs is something you considered, don't base your expectations on their marketing. This is a very impressive movie for sure, at least in terms of craft. Go in blank and you'll enjoy this!
Kalki 2898-AD (2024)
Neither good, not bad. Mid.
Another film with massive expectations this year. Since its theatrical release, I've a lot glowing reviews and a lot of reviews that have bashed the film, Arshad Warsi has been under fire for saying "He (Prabhas) was like a joker (in the film)." Now that it's dropped online, had to watch it. I feel like the criticism has been unwarranted, at the movie and at Prabhas. At the same time, I don't think the film is mind-blowing either; the film is somewhere in the middle but to each their own.
Tying everything to Mahabharata was phenomenal. If Nag Ashwin and the makers made a 10 ep show out of this, I think I'd love to watch it. I knew the worldbuilding would be praised, and it's good but if you've watched global films, the parts outside of Mahabharata aren't anything new. Well done fosho, but nothing mind-blowing.
Prabhas was just fine, I don't know why people are upset at the funny first half. What was joker like, I don't get. People would type-cast a hero and either be upset that he doesn't do anything new or be upset whenever he tries anything new. What's bruh to do? I don't know if some 'expressions' would have made the role come across better....? 'Joker' is harsh. Would have loved to see Abhishek Bachchan in the 'young' role. AR sr was phenomenal in the film. Carried the entire film on his shoulders......? Not sure if I agree with that. Disha Patani - why? Deepika, Anna Ben, and all the other actors - couldn't care for any of them. Some of the dialogues were written in such way that you could tell these people will be killed off, and when it eventually happened, it didn't come as a shock or surprise.
The kids and the fanboys in the film talked a little too much for my liking. Never been a fan of using talkative kids for comic relief (remember that Imaikkaa Nodigal kid?) or for hype scenes, like the one here. "My teacher is going to kick your ass" or whatever that was, the kid says. Bruh, you met the guy 5 mins ago. How's he your teacher already? You just asked him if he's fought before, and you're now convinced he's the best fighter around? Whoever wrote the dialogues for "Luke" bruh, calm down with the fanboying. So, dialogues - underwhelming.
Music - Santhosh Narayanan was an interesting choice. Good for him, he's clearly making moves. This was a hit/miss for me. In a lot of places, I couldn't get the OST and sound design for Black Panther out of my head. In other places, this was well done and really helped elevate the scenes.
The classic rule, the worse your villains, the bigger your heroes seems to not have been taken into consideration much. Cmdr. Manas was...just there...? Bruh wasn't evil. Yaskin was there fore 2 scenes, so he doesn't even count. Villains were just...OK. So that didn't necessarily help elevate the heroes to new heights. Maybe that's gonna be saved for Part 2, and the dialogues already hint towards how this is going to end.
I could go on and on, but overall Kalki was visually good but nothing un-familiar from before. A couple key characters; one of whom doesn't deserve the backlash IMO, the other who, didn't necessarily carry the entire film; everybody else was bleh. The world building around Maharabharata was interesting. Will still watch Part 2 but this movie was neither awesome, not bad but somewhere in the middle.
Raayan (2024)
Underwhelming.
Had huge expectations from this one, didn't expect this one to drop on streaming after a mere 3 weeks of its release. Predetermined or a early release because it didn't do well in the theaters...?
Age old plot with 'twists' and overall writing that weren't convincing enough. The cops and villains were not convincing enough. That said, the good performances by everyone; decent cinematography and amazing sound design. AR Rahman's music was felt...worthy of that nametag after a long time. Hope Dhanush directs more.
The movie wasn't good but I dunno if its bad as people are making it out to be. Watchable....but I don't think you'll miss much if you skip it. Do listen to the songs though.
Love Lies Bleeding (2024)
A24 delivers again
A24 delivers again, a movie that is going to make you go "What did I just watch!?" and that's classic A24 i guess. You may/may not like the film, but you'll surely talk about it. Kristen Stewart and Katy o'Brian were fantastic in this "dark and gritty", "romantic-thriller-drama" film (that is not family friendly, for obvious reasons which you'll either find unnecessary for the plot to move or might feel like they were absolute value ads to the chemistry between the lead) that has some amazing sound design, commentary on female empowerment, and some elements of....fiction...? With an ending that's surely going to have you asking questions and coming up with your own interpretation of what you just saw.
Watch it if you like A24 content!
The Greatest Night in Pop (2024)
That was awesome!
If you listen to any kind of music, this should surely be on your watchlist. I had no idea what went behind getting this done. The fascinating BTS of pulling off one of the greatest gatherings of pop musicians in America is going to make you wonder if you had to get people together in a genre/language of your choice, who'd be on your list?
Getting all those big names (Some I've listened to, some I've heard of, half of whom I hadn't even heard of) to pull this off in one night!? *slow claps* Will definitely be looking up and listening to more Bruce Springsteen and Huey Lewis just from this one doc.
Kurangu Bommai (2017)
Maharaja-lite, in a good way.
Fans of the recent blockbuster Maharaja, this one's from the same director (Hard to believe he's only two films old and has come up with screenplay masterclass in his very 2nd film, but Kurangu Bommai is where you see him trying out this approach in a thriller that's very underrated.
Crime thriller fans, this should totally be on your list. You'll feel that it's slightly dated, which it is, came out a while back but that's likely going to be because you've watched similar content since this one released. For a 2017 movie, this is definitely brilliant and you can see shades of Maharaja in here.
Oththa Seruppu Size 7 (2019)
Very interesting.
Recently read that the makers are in talks with Denzel Washington for a potential Hollywood remake, had to watch it right away.
Parthiban is known for his interesting takes on filmmaking, this one is no different. I wonder if most of his work is done around "this will definitely be talked about and potentially remade!"
Single actor in the whole film, shot in a single room? Probably done < 10 times ever, but bruh decided to get it done and might have pulled off a VERY GOOD and a very unique piece of filmmaking. Acting range, cinematography, sound design - totally worth your time if you're in the mood for something you've not seen before. You may or may not have your mind blown, but you'll definitely find this very interesting.
Jiu Long cheng zhai · Wei cheng (2024)
One of the best action films of the year barring....
Coming out of Hong Kong, this film will remind you of some of the Jackie Chan movies you have grown up watching, but in a setting like never before.
The trailer looked AMAZING! Some of the action sequences were brutal, especially since they were set in the Kowloon Walled City. The film isn't just mindless action but it takes its own sweet time following the characters and making you care enough for them (which is rare in mindless action films) but that ends up being the plus/minus for the film.
There was less action that I expected and a lot more character building, but whatever action was in it was enjoyable, minus the climax fight which...made it seem like it was out of a superhero movie, which this wasn't. That said, following the characters was enough to give the climax a pass. With a better final fight, I think the film would have been a GOOD action-drama, but in certain ways it still ends up being that.
Would recommend for a one time watch, especially if you're an action lover.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (2024)
Decent.
Reboots are generally only a shell of the original films, some are even really bad. The 2011 reboot of the Planet of the Apes is a rare exception and very underrated, would highly recommend it if you haven't watched the new ones. The original five films were released between 1968-1973, one in 2001. You don't have to watch the first six films to start the new trilogy trilogy of Rise, Dawn and War for the Planet of the Apes.
That out of the way, Kingdom... of the POTA is the 4th film in the reboot series, much anticipated in my books, especially since I enjoyed watching the first three (haven't seen the old ones.)
All the films, including this one, are visually stunning. Motion capture like you may not have seen before, the apes look VERY realistic. I enjoyed the storytelling and parallels between the ape-human dynamics in the film and our present society. The characters, could have been written better, I don't think I cared much for them in this one as much as I did in the previous ones but that didn't necessarily impact the film for me. Decent watch nevertheless.
Just by itself, you may not 'enjoy' the movie, but this is your chance to binge it. Out of 10 on IMDB, Rise - 7.6, Dawn 7.6, War 7.4, Kingdom 7. While nothing mind-blowing, you can tell that the scores are indicative of a decent set of movies. The story and the world-building will not disappoint you. At the very least, for the duration of the films, the visuals will keep you very engaged.
Kill (2023)
That 'ghost rider' sequence, LMAO, I hollered at that one.
I don't remember the last time a film made me anticipate the next stunt/action sequence in 2024.
I've watched my share of John Wick-type movies, so the intensity in 'Kill' wasn't new to me, but boy did I enjoy some of the things they did in this film. The action/stunt choreography deserves much praise and is the highlight - that 'ghost rider' sequence, LMAO, I hollered at that one. Editing, sound design and cinematography being well supportive.
From an acting standpoint, the villain takes the cake. The hero and his buddy... were believable at best, but that's not a casting issue but a writing issue, I suppose. Didn't feel like this was Lakshya's first movie, so credit where it's due. The heroine...did well with whatever she was give.
From a production standpoint, almost all of the film was likely shot on a very small set or inside a train. Almost all newcomers/ debutants, I bet they made a ton of money and spent very less in comparison. The makers of John Wick has apparently bought the rights to remake this in English.
Fans of the action genre this one is for you. You'll have to grant some cinematic liberties, a few too many in my books. Had a hard time setting logic aside in several instances; the heroine's sister's missing and she looks at the hero and delivers romantic one-liners. Had me like, "bruh your sister's missing. People are literally getting killed on the other side of the train. Show me some panic on your face....!"
All that said, (very) enjoyable if you're an action buff!
Das Lehrerzimmer (2023)
Wow, I didn't expect that!!
I went into this 96 min. Film blind, not sure what this was going to be about and I'll have to admit, I was like "Bruh, what did I just watch?" by the end of it, neither in a good way, nor bad. I haven't seen a film like this, in a setting like this, before. The story of a teacher who wants her students to do well slowly driven to the brink of turmoil told in the form of a thriller, with music and sound design that keeps you anticipating where this is going to go....wow, didn't expect that.
The more I thought about the film, the more I appreciated it. This is far from the regular filmy templates that you're used to. Ordinary story, extraordinary execution. The climax - I don't know if something was missing - but I didn't mind it.
Would totally recommend it if you're in the mood for something very different in the thriller genre.
Blink (2024)
I have questions and I can't find answers.
This film deserves some more viewership and has been momentum since March 2024 mostly through word of mouth, so I'm doing my bit, you should check this out *conditions apply.
If you enjoy the "Bro, WHAT is going on?", predicting how things will unfold and getting it right, you should watch this. If you like looking for answers after the movie, you should watch this. Acting was okay I guess, nothing to write home about but - GREAT editing.
I don't think I've seen a whole lot of movies with such a plot in Indian cinema, and from what I'm reading, it's very new to the Kannada audience as well. If you're looking for something unique, this surely fits the bill.
Plot conveniences - you can play along with these, but dealing with plot holes is a pain, especially with the mind-bending genre. Looking for answers may sometimes not help either. The problem with this film though is that there are a lot of questions, and you can't tell if it's a convenience or a hole; parts of Kannada audience is chalking it up to 'bad-writing'. And I think I have to agree....? Dunno, haven't made up my mind yet.
But it's a solid and commendable debut film, not easy to make something like this in India and not get panned.
Predestination (2014)
My head huts but I enjoyed it nevertheless.
This film deserves more recognition. I didn't know it existed until 2 days ago and if you and I had been on the same boat, it's time you put this on your watch this film based on a sci-fi short story 'All You Zombies' from 1958. How someone thought of a plot like this in 1958 is beyond me.
I can't even begin to describe the plot without potentially spoiling anything if you enjoy the "Bro, WHAT is going on?", predicting how things will unfold and getting it right, you should watch this. If you like looking for answers after the movie, you should watch this. Predestination has some good acting, GREAT editing. I'd give the sound design a special mention as it keeps the intensity throughout the film.
I was able to see where certain things were going to go, but the 'how' part, I wasn't sure. My mind is fried trying to make sense of everything I saw but surprisingly, I enjoyed the film while I was watching it.
Maharaja (2024)
Screenplay Masterclass. I have NOT seen anything written like this in Tamil cinema before.
Isaignani Ilaiyaraja avargal, after this movie:
Naan sivanenu dhaane poiki'irundhen....
yaar vambu thumbkkaachu ponaena?
Gouravam gouravam nu yen gouravathiye narradichteengle da!
Daaai! Nee yendha JILLA'vla irundhalum seri.
On usuru yen kaila dhaan-di'yei! Yen kaila dhaan.
About the movie:
Screenplay Masterclass. I have NOT seen anything written like this in Tamil cinema before.
Any details about the plot may potentially reveal spoilers so I'll refrain from doing so. Vijay Sethupathi and Anurag Kashyap were GREAT (minus the lip-sync) along with the secondary characters. Any actor could have played these roles, from the Nassers to the SJ Suryas; but the screen presence that these two have elevates the scenes and the brand of the movie that will make people buy the tickets; and rightfully so - because a film like this deserves to be seen by many.
But to put the actors ABOVE the script and the screenplay would be blasphemous. VJS will likely get over-credited for this movie and that's fine as long the writing gets the most props for this film. It would be an injustice otherwise.
Is everything a 100% perfect? No. But the brilliance that the writing has demonstrated overshadows that things that didn't work for me along with a couple of the casting choices didn't have any impact on the plot. Could have been anybody, and folks who were chosen didn't add to the screen presence either. However this is not the movie to nitpick on.
Go in blank, sit back and watch things unfold. You have not seen anything like this before. If you're a cinema lover, you're in for a special treat with the screenplay.
Jamtara: Sabka Number Ayega (2020)
Unique S1, Generic S2. Mid show.
Super late this with highly acclaimed show, I'm sure I'm in the minority that didn't watch this show when it released, so I'll spare the details.
Barring some inconsistent use of English in the dialogues and some phishing techniques that sound too easy, this was a good show; at least S01 - a crime thriller about Phishing Scams with a unique storyline. S02 became more of a political drama, the likes of which you've surely watched before.
The show isn't GREAT but it's surely good enough for a watch and certainly better than most of the Hindi movies and Tv shows that have been coming out with big names and big budgets. Watch it if you have nothing 'mindblowing' to watch.
