All I can say is, those leaving bad reviews were expecting a horror movie, but instead got the tense, uncomfortable inner torment of people losing hope.
There's mental illness, conflict, drama, and hopelessness.
I thought the acting was great and the storyline acceptable. Sure, there are plot holes in every movie, and at the end, I wasn't sure if the outcome was good or bad.
The last half hour of the movie is the buildup of all the things that led up to that moment.
I feel like many people would behave this way in a situation like this.
It shows how a family can survive through the torment of a disaster....or did they?

After reading both positive and negative reviews, I decided to watch it anyway.
Sure, it's slow in spots and the dialogue is overdubbed, but when you watch the entire movie, the ending brought everything together.
It has a dark, ominous tone throughout the entire flick. Not a lot of bright or happy spots. The main character not only has to face the zombie apocalypse, he has his own past demons to deal with while hiding away in his family's home.
If you're looking for a traditional zombie movie, this ain't it, but watch it all the way through and you'll be pleasantly surprised.
I think this movie was different enough to stand on its own in spite of the zombie theme.

I guess I don't understand how this movie gets the negative ratings and comments.
It has something for everyone: it's a love story, a horror flick, a science fiction film, plus there's the cat.
There are enough jump scares to satisfy even the staunchiest of viewers, I thought the acting was first rate, suspense is overwhelming, and the sense of dread prevails over the entire movie.
Are there plot/technical holes in the movie? Of course! I could nitpick it to death. But I don't watch movies to criticize every little thing...I want to FEEL something. And I felt almost every emotion available.
If you see it, watch it in the theater if you can. There were times in the movie where you could hear a pin drop in the theater, everyone was holding on to that last breath, afraid to make a sound.
I loved it.
