  • talk about suspense...

I mean talk about suspension of disbelief! You not only have to do that you have to assume everyone including you are just plain stupid to believe that anything of this complexity could be actually planned out and I mean to a "T". They (the practical planners or whoever they really are) even knew and made perfect "to the foot" precision plans that make us assume that they know what our star will do and at what very moment and in what very precise direction he will display his extreme emotional distress?? I'm trying not to give anything away here so I'm being a little vague but if you've seen the film I hope you know what I mean (hint: it's at the end). I just can't believe Americans waste their money on this kind of absurdity and then actually think they've seen something of quality. This plot has so many holes in it that (I can't come up with a funny line here) well... it just does. The whole point of the movie is to trick the viewer. It's just utter nonsense IMHO. All these big budget slick spectacular movies coming out of Hollywood that have the finest filming and sets and lighting and special effects and superstars... and STUPID plot and characters that still make the American public come out with glazed eyes in droves quite frankly saddens me. I need an escapist movie now and then too but please don't tell me this movie is a serious suspense drama or anything like it. It's escapist at best and at that... it's drivel. I'd prefer a Superman movie to this because at least it's not pretending to be anything else. When I saw the ending of this movie I wanted my money back for the wasted time I had just spent. OK... I'm done. 1 star

  • Yes it's a family movie and a good one!

This movie made my daughter (7) laugh so much .. it made me laugh too just through her at first. Later I found myself remembering some of the scenes and laughing to myself. The slapstick and silliness appeal to the child in everyone. Yes, I grew up loving the Three Stooges shorts and Short uses their antics in no short supply. From the opening scenes Murrey shows us what kind on stooge he really is and it just develops from there as the film moves through it's plot. It's not a bad plot as family movies go. Kathleen Turner puts in a wicked performance as a villainous witch. The special effects are good and used in a way that compliments the funniness of the scenes and aren't just there to dazzle or put there arbitrarily. I saw a comment on another Short movie that fits the bill here too. I'm going to change it while keeping the spirit of it intact. If you don't get the meaning of slapstick humor then (there's nothing to get just ...let it happen) go rent a George Carlin standup video instead. There's some very funny scenes here and a decent plot so I'll rate this family comedy for what it is at a solid 7 stars.

  • Great 70's style movie (I love them) and true to life!

This movie has none of the suspension of disbelief that prevails in most of today's movies. No spectacular sets and grand schemes. It's a stark picture of the underbelly of not so petty crime by an aging lifer who needs just one more sting so he can retire. It's about a guy like I might have (and probably did) grown up with who has only a few options left. He's chosen a path that can only lead to his eventual destruction. In the end it's not even personal why he has to go. Just business. I like the low keyed performances of both Mitchem and Boyle. This movie is about the lower ranks of a Godfather like organization. These guy's are all just winging along doing business and trying to make a score. I wish I could find it on DVD (or VHS for that matter). Very underrated film.
