Anyone who has experience in this arena laughs and scoffs at the total departure from reality Slow Horses displays. As entertainment it has a couple of redeeming factors, none of which is likeable characters. Gary Oldman is good in his role, but his role as a discarded brilliant spy is is gross and insulting to humankind. The violence is over the top, and the sequences between violent scenes are slow and boring. I realize much of the storyline is written for pure entertainment, but one must suspend all sense of rationale and belief in order to enjoy this tripe. And if MI-5 is anything like it's portrayed in this show, I fear for the Brits.
If you're thinking of watching this movie to learn more about the Black Dahlia case you're headed for disappointment. There is a 5-minute (or so) segment where they briefly describe the wounds Ms. Short suffered, and that's about all this mess has to do with the actual case. The movie plods along with mediocre acting, iffy writing, and a plot so thin it is laughable. And if you somehow hang in to see how it all comes together at the end, well, you're wasting your time. The film has some production value (the costumes and sets are pretty accurate), which accounts for my 3-star rating. The rest is garbage.
I guess if you're between 12 and 20 (or a 75-year old person who loves soap operas) this might interest you. I normally enjoy Irish TV but this one leaves me cold. Whatever plot(s) there is/are pretty thin. The acting is neighborhood theater group level, and the dialogue is forced. Perhaps it's just me, out of touch with what is considered entertainment these days, But this plodding, uninteresting attempt at a RomCom or whatever they're trying to be just falls flat. I'm just not interested in delving into the psyche of folks having relationship issues, or trying to build new relationships. Just not my dram of whisky.
