There are elements of this show that make me want to love it and give it a 9. The acting and writing are excellent - except for one crucial element.
Everything related to the Jackal is exceptional espionage. And the tracking to DJ s the jackal is well done in part. Eddie Redmayne is phenomenal in his role.
The problem with this show is the character played by Lashana Lynch. She is incredibly unappealing. And this story is very plain Jane and predictable - a classic trope (akin to the movie Heat with Pacino and DiNero), in which the bad guy has integrity and is appealing, but the pursuer - the alleged good guy- MI6 officer is calloused and entirely unlikable. She gets multiple people killed in pursuit of the Jackal. She screws over her family. She deserves no good outcome. It is impossible to root for her.
It's all too predictable. What could have been a much better show is hindered by the cliche storyline of the MI6 officer.
