Some of the videography is stunning. Unfortunately that's the pro. The cons are legion. Virtually nothing presented was new or novel. It felt like the entire series was a promotional series for a food company or a restaurant or some new brand of frozen foods for Whole Foods. I say 'So Hollywood' because there is so much fluff and so little content. I'll admit that I didn't watch every episode. But I tried. I really tried. I got so bored so quickly that I found myself hitting the fast forward and saying, yeah, yeah, yeah, tell me something I didn't already know. Where's Graham Kerr when we need him?
She was a breath of fresh air in The Good Wife and I had high hopes for something special. This was a complete flop. Lousy script, trite dialog, washed out acting. Not worth watching. Some of the actors are seasoned professionals playing roles, like the Sargent, at which they excel, but none of them stretched to fulfill their roles, which is all they did. And using New York city as a background can't save any writing, directing or acting from the shallowness of the finished product. So, this started as an interesting idea for a spinoff, but doesn't feel like more than a contrived and slap dash way to fill airtime and give people jobs.
Quick, what is Martin Scorsese not? Answer: a talk show host! He's had his directorial successes, but he's quickly just annoying as a questioner. And his hysterical laughter at every single thing Fran says really ruined it for me.
And what's Fran? A brilliant writer. What isn't she? A stand up comedian. Her constant ahems, uhs, ahs and other assorted inabilities to speak a coherent sentence, left me hungry for a professional editor to clean up after her.
Also, one can only take so much self aggrandizement and pitiful braggadocio swagger before you want to toss your groceries.
Really, it's just not that interesting. I gave up after two and a half episodes.
Good luck!
