When I was in college, the local video store had a category called "Le bad". The category meant that you were to watch at your own risk. This was one of those movies - so bad it's good. It was an interesting romp, full of obvious surprises, bad acting, illogical scenarios, way too much ammunition, and plot holes the size of the Grand Canyon, but I liked it. I have already recommended it to friends. It was a bit long, however. At least 30 minutes of this could be removed without disturbing the plot at all. I would like to see a follow-up movie that either clears-up the problem, or furthers the story.
First of all, let me say that I LOVE (new) zombie movies - even quirky ones.
I understand this is supposed to be a comedy, and the obvious jokes in this movie are just not funny.
There is plenty of whimsy, but the pace is so irritatingly slow that it ruins the joke. This should be played at 1.25 speed. Napoleon Dynamite had a slow pace, but it was perfect for what they were doing.
I do like the fact these people know about zombies, and one guy mentions he has actually seen all of the zombie movies, so there are certain things that do make sense.
There are a few A-list actors in this, but it seems like mixing diamonds with cubic zirconia on the same bracelet - cheapening the diamonds.

The marketing was really good for this, and the presence of Neal McDonough really made me want to watch this movie. I am a sincere fan of mid-apocalyptic movies, and wanted to be first in line for this one.
This movie, sincerely missed an opportunity for some seriousness with the concept of removing certain obstacles and not taking any apologies for decisions that were made. Also, the segments of teen-angst are unnecessary and distracting. That concept didn't hold up in The Walking Dead: A World Beyond, and it doesn't work well here.
Yes, as the other reviews have stated, it's obvious this is the pilot for the series as so many things were left unresolved.
Also, the event that started the problem seems to quickly take a backseat to the improbable drama that is present at the compound. Nice house, though!
