Nandhan (2024)
Top notch movie!!
The movie is interesting in so many ways with a note at the beginning, and a titular role which is not of the protagonist (or) antagonist, and how real politics happen instead of the cinematic revenge, killings.
All the characters are brilliant, and even the antagonist mother scores in a scene. The writing and making is brilliant throughout with Samuthrakani being the rescue guardian for the plight of the downtrodden.
The movies climax is beautiful that captures what is real win in politics and democracy. Cinematography and music is brilliant in the confined spaces and the shocking reality comments in epilogue is one to be must watched!!
Sector 36 (2024)
No drama
This could have been a better documentary as the movie lacks thrill and suspense of finding the culprit. It is a brave decision to cast the serial killer as protagonist, but nothing adds up apart from Vikrant Massey giving a top notch performance.
There is a little background of why the characters are the way they are. The other technical aspects of the movie are good. The movie gets boring and repetitive after a point.
But the shocking this the lackey nature of police investigation in reality and how such things of monumental disaster were allowed to happen in first place. Reality is stranger than fiction.
Dhootha (2023)
Extremely Brilliant!!!
Vikram K Kumar is back with a bang after the disastrous "Thank You". You witness the good old intelligent narrative from Vikram K Kumar films with clever twists that outfoxes your thinking. I wonder why they did not make this a feature film. Only the last episode looks cinematic with a hero worshipping act. The thrills are extremely good and the rain motif adds a sense of thrill and horror to the narrative.
This movie could have worked better with a little less flashback. There is a bold call to portray the protagonist as a negative character including the lead actress.
I wish Vikram K Kumar comes back with a feature film soon!!!
PT Sir (2024)
Forced to be a hero!!
The movie is too predictable right from the first scene. You cannot resonate with a hero who would leave his engagement at the last minute. The last act was baffling and appears the makers wanted it to be a twist, so it was a twist. But it hardly evokes any surprise given the long duration with dull screenplay that precedes. There is a 1980s trope of ppl asking the hero to be a savior and fight ppl and a lecture session. The second half was terrible to watch with a fight, typical villain and a typical hero worship adding nothing to the drama. The music was flat. It looks everything was kept just for it to be there.

Joe (2023)
Usual love story!!
"Joe" is a heart-wrenching tale of redemption and resilience that leaves a profound impact on its audience. Nicolas Cage delivers a powerhouse performance as the titular character, a troubled ex-con trying to find solace and purpose in a harsh, unforgiving world. The film's raw authenticity and gritty realism are brought to life through its evocative cinematography and haunting soundtrack. With its powerful narrative and standout performances, "Joe" is a cinematic tour de force that lingers in the mind long after the credits roll.
The 2 female characters have performed well. But certain portions of the film look far fetched.

Kondraal Paavam (2023)
Well written movie!!!
The movie starts with a discourse on desire and lust which sets a central theme for the entire movie. An unknown stranger enters the poverty stricken family of 4. One leads to the other and family decides to kill the stranger.
While as a viewer one is on the hook if the family would kill (or) not kill the stranger, the climax revelation is hard hitting and unexpected. This is brilliantly written but certain portions could have been trimmed.
The music was loud and all songs looked similar. One should watch the movie for the brilliant acting from Varalakshmi Sarathkumar and the unexpected climax part.

Animal (2023)
Boring!!
Animal is a purely Ranbir show with lot of scenes on anatomy, underwear, and other private parts. The scenes were polarized and nobody could believe if it would happen in a normal household. But it will happen in Sandeep Reddy Vanga's world.
There were many scenes which u could directly cut out and could have reduced the marathon runtime. There is literally nothing to look for except the face off between Bobby Deol and Ranbir after the violent interval fight scene.
The music was terrific and juxtaposed in a conflicting way. A funny song for the villain intro scene and an emotional one for the climax part which looked interesting.
Boring movie!!
Mark Antony (2023)
Amazing script and execution!!!
The movie is a typical revenge gangster movie with a nice fantasy element of time travel. The major plus of the movie is it's mind-blowing screenplay and SJ Suryah for making us believe in all absurdity of the script.
The plot is just brilliant after the interval bang. The characters are well established and SJ Suryah killed it with his amazing acting. The songs were misplaced, not enjoyable and don't add any value to the narration. The heroine factor works at some places. The make up if Vishal could have been better and looks bland at some places which is the only drawback technically. Definitely a worthy entertainer!!!
Jawan (2023)
Terrific entertainer!!!
This is one heck of a movie with mass goosebump moments for the legendary actor Shah Rukh Khan. I don't think even Bollywood director would have thought of such moments for the king. The screenplay is racy, enough pauses are there for emotions and mind blowing action scenes and high moments.
You never get bored at anytime, with Anirudh's terrific background score and songs. The screenplay is good and interestingly the heroine has a part to play in this action thriller.
The comic moments works great time. Every getup is done with great attention to detail. Kudos to the makeup and VFX team. Must watch!!!
Lift (2021)
Well made movie!!
The movie starts with usual gags of a typical IT office setup. And slowly turns into a gripping thriller. Kavin manages to hold the audience with his brilliant acting supported by a terrific background score.
The thrills were effective with the minimal budget and the movie is technically sound. The heroine character looks silly and foolish but it adds to comedy.
The climax part is good and leaves with a reality shocking news. The writing and visuals is too good that it does not make u bored and claustrophobic even though the entire movie happens in the office and lift. Very well made thriller.
Bhediya (2022)
Good entertainer!!
The movie starts with a childhood wolf and sheep fable. And, turns into a comedic werewolf with dialogues and effective gags. The screenplay is simple and progresses slowly. Credits go to the VFX department for a stunning visuals, transformation scenes and more importantly playing out the climax without the lead characters.
The beautiful thing is deals with the message of forest and environment without being preachy and with a element of fun and fantasy. The story is bit predictable but still engaging and watchable. Varun Dhawan is brilliant with his comedy and performance. Good movie to watch!!
Jailer (2023)
Best of Rajinikanth since Petta!!
The movie starts with a rather calm Rajnikanth without much fanfare and intro songs. Anirudh is the kingpin for this movement with elevations and silence at right place. However, the movie may not give a good cinematic experience with majority of the characters focused on close centre of the screen for it to evoke so called 'Dark comedy'.
The director seems to have lost plot in the later half, and relied on a comedy track which added no value to the story. Some scenes were elevated which did not require such moments. It looks the Director resorted to fan service in the later part struggling to keep them entertained!!
The Godfather Part II (1974)
The Godfather - Rise and Fall of the family!!
The movie switches between the past and present in an interesting series of events - the orphaned Don Vito Corleone, rise to power of Michael Corleone. And, terrific action sequences that leads to manhunt one after the other. Al Pacino is just brilliant and can't imagine any other actor reprising this role other than him. Younger Don Vito played by Robert De Niro lacks the hoarse voice we witnessed in the first part.
The movie runs as a series of events in a non-coherent way with Michael facing betrayal from his own men. The emotional Michael is complemented by a calm younger Don Vito in the flashback. Good watch!!
Maamannan (2023)
Unrealistic hate!!!
The movie starts with a plot where everything looks great and intermittent social messages - only to emphasize the conflicting morals of the lead characters. There are some sub plots which were unused and added no value to the story - like the foster father. This is undoubtedly the best work of Udhayanidhi Stalin co-starting with the legend Vadivelu.
What did not work with the narrative is the extreme polarisation of the characters - only for us to sympathize with the protagonist. It looks far fetched and a bit unrealistic.
The political drama could be made interesting with an equally mature antagonist played by Alagam Perumal for a short duration. But it was made like love vs pure hate kind of movie!!
Oppenheimer (2023)
Most talky Nolan film!!!
This movie is arguably the Nolan film with more conversations than visual treatment. The movie is non-linear with a court room kind of trial at the main proceedings. Robert Downey Jr and Cilian Murphy are just too good for the roles.
At some point you wonder where is this heading with too much conversations. The movie weighs heavily on the convoluted character of Oppenheimer played by Murphy. This is one of the truest biopic that does not glorify / villify the protagonist. It stays as close as to an enigmatic theoretical scientist and his world of science and morality.
The last act is good!!
The Godfather (1972)
Impactful action scenes!!
This movie stood the test of time for its unbelievable short impactful action scenes and the emotional drama between father and a son. Marlon Brando as the Godfather is just too good that you cant imagine anyone talking his place in the movie. The character's reaction on his son's loss and Al Pacino taking up the mantle was emotional and good.
Al Pacino got caught in the web of fate and ultimately becomes the dreaded gangster he and his father never intend to in the first place. The screenplay elements are way ahead of its time with many movies drawing inspiration from this colour classic!!!!
Maaveeran (2023)
Well written with brilliant acting!!
The movie starts with a casual hero who never want to get into any sort of trouble in his life. And he even says - "We have to adjust and live". And, suddenly things change with a auditory hallucination. The good thing is the audience would have "believed" everything post that given it is fantasy. But the writers have carefully made it believable and everything happening in a series of "Final Destination" kind of screenplay with outstanding comedy from Yogi Babu.
Sivakarthikeyan is unbelievable in this role juggling between a possessed man who never want to be the chosen one. The small drawback is the climax plot making the villain look silly and foolish!!
Theera Kaadhal (2023)
Very thin storyline!!
This movie starts with our protagonist meeting his ex-lover on a business trip. The characters are established and movie progresses. This movie story line is good enough for a short film, but the 2 hour duration looks dragged and claustrophobic with majority of scenes happening in same house (or) the office space.
The plot did not work as suddenly the Aishwarya Rajesh character becomes possessive and psycho over our protagonist, which looks a bit unrealistic and over the top. The emotional high is not there without which the movie just looks like scene after scene that is predictable. Sshivada character is too good though it has little scenes!!
Elemental (2023)
Good movie!!
The only thing stopping Pixar movies becoming Pixar movies is its own legendary history of top notch movies out of nothing. The visuals in 'Elemental' are stunning and did not look cartoonish at any point, though it looked like so in the trailer.
The 3D adds little value to the story, and it is a good emotional love story with nice creativity at many places. The screenplay is predictable and the Pixar touch is missing unlike Toy Story, Inside out. But nevertheless, it is a great movie from Pixar after Soul.
The concept that the 2 characters cannot be together is used greatly to a great extent. Do watch!!
Missing (2023)
Good thriller!!!
The plot is interesting - 'a kid searching for the missing mother'. But there is lack of context in why this had to be a screen movie like 'Searching'. This could have been better had it been made as a normal cinematic movie, given the thrills, twist and reveals it had.
The plot looks wayward in the beginning and picks pace slowly. One leads to the other, and the final act is damn good. The artists acted well. The emotions work at right places.
But there are too many taken got granted moments with our protagonist guessing the correct password every 5th second. And, the Google translate scene looks far fetched!!
