Mom is predicatable from the word go. There have been too many revenge for rape of a relative movie to count. Brother, father, husband, blind husband, friends have avenged so far and now it's the turn of a step mom. It's not realistic and feels empty. It's not an awareness movie as there is hardly anyone who has not read headlines or heard commentator scream it out on the news channels. There is nothing new on offer. The message however seems that if courts dont do justice, vigilante justice is the only way out. Which is a wrong message to send out. Vigilante sometimes poor at judging situations might harm the wrong person or themselves, thus harming the victim furthermore. Ankush was a great movie in this genre made almost 30 years ago. The message there was that eye for eye justice will leave the whole town blind. The movie exploits emotional points as much they can, long hospital sequences are there for you to immerse and not question the script.
Challenging a wrestler twice your weight (check). Fighting when doctors say you will die (check). Not tapping out despite fainting (check). And all this would look great if there was any good reason for this. Without any strong reason, all this looked like childish arrogance. One of the kite catching jumps was almost 15 feet and landing on hard floor. Despite that no damage. A ridiculous climax where the hallucinating man wins. In parts, movie hits the right chords despite its faults. Specially, the Anushka Sharma Salman relationship. This movie had a lot of potential. But it is reduced to a farce. One time watch.
The protagonist of this movie is a Gold Medalist Doctor from India. He migrates to Canada without even checking if they would allow him to practice. He is this dumb, OK. After knowing that he can't practice in Canada, what would anyone choose driving a cab in a new country or being a doctor and saving lives in your own poor country? Yes, he is that dumb, he chooses to be a cabbie. So, any plot in this movie can not be taken seriously. Now, the jokes, they are offensive and stale. Women with big chests show up everywhere. The migrant cabbie (Kunal) feels at ease in harassing white women, I guess director trying to satisfy fantasies of cabbies. As far as acting goes, the lead, Vinay does not even try. I guess the only audience this movie is made for is the NRIs, But I wonder if people exposed to Hollywood would ever consider watching this.
