It is not an easy movie to review without spoiling it. First of all, the word Monster in the title is misleading. There is no physical monster like in a horror film. It is a movie about these people that we get to better understand as the movie proceeds and how what we think about them changes as we learn about what is going on inside them. There are their physical activities that are easy to see. That is true for most people we meet and see every day. Even people we are close to or live with. We can tell you what they did or what they said but neither may be helpful in understanding what is going on inside them. Knowing what is really going on inside another person takes a different kind of interaction, a different perspective. This film takes us on a journey inside a group of people like no other film I can remember. It is a beautiful and deep film.
Charming and funny and interesting. Hoping some service picks up the seasons starting with 7 since Acorn stops at 6. She is like a French Columbo and she is fun to watch. The plots are interesting and playful but they are also varied which allows you to watch a few episodes without getting bored. Her family stays the same but her crew changes from time to time with different personalities and issues for Candice to deal with and that adds to the depth of the series as well. The cases are topical and there is a lot of divorce and love and children mixed in. There is even a story about a dog. I would love to meet her.
Complex feelings. Fluid family relationships. Some edge of your seat tension but every character is fully explored and every actor is perfect. This is one of my favorite films. The script and the editing and the camera angles and the direction are all perfect. I would change nothing. No one is completely good or bad. Everyone makes mistakes. Every character is so real that you believe they will come through their mess and come out the other side. Not everyone can but they all try. The heart in this film is the center and like a family they all move in and then away and then back. It is just such a great film. I loved it.
