Bones: The Nazi on the Honeymoon (2013)
conflicting opinions, more rambling!!
I feel very conflicted about this episode. I adore it, obviously. Bones and Booth are together at last. This is their first marriage episode. Finally, all is right in the world. I love seeing Hodgins and Angela as parents.
I hate this case. I've seen a lot of people talking about the inaccuracy of the location. I don't know anything about that. I just hate the case. I'm Jewish, and I'd like to shake Leticia Perez's hand and maybe buy her a fruit basket.
I understand that emotionally, it's a smart move to have a murder where we don't feel bad for the victim. We can just focus on the joy of the marriage. However, I find myself worrying about the murderer. Every so often, in an episode of Bones, there is a murder where I kind of understand the perspective of the killer. I don't want to justify any crimes, I'm not a violent person. But those few episodes (the signs in the silence, for example) are cases where I find myself worrying more about the murderer than the victim.
I just find myself thinking about how I might have handled the case differently, which I guess is a very good reason that I'm not a forensic anthropologist, or working for the law. I would have destroyed the bones and signed off on a report saying that he fell down and broke his hip, or something.
Funny bits: Leticia Perez being the only character who can stand up to Dr. Brennan immediately. The inspector wanting to finish breakfast, and then deciding they will do it the American way - immediately, and with a great deal of noise. Dr. Saroyan interacting with Michael Vincent and Christine.
Bones: The Lady on the List (2013)
yapping!!!!!!
Hi bones booth (idk if I got this review in on time!!)
total rating: 8/10.
Best part: jack just bringing the falcon into the lab. In my lab we do the same with random animals. My lab PI has raised/rehabilitated a one-legged rabbit and a couple of ducks, and I found a few mantises that I've just decided are my pets. Also, supportive and protective Angela is my favorite ever.
Worst parts: dr. Wells. Please please please where is HR at the jeffersonian. I know so many of the characters are neurodivergent/autistic coded but that is not an excuse to actively be a terrible, creepy, condescending human being.
This feels like a very standard episode of bones after the super intense Pelant arc. Someone (microcelebrity in some specific community) is killed, we dive into their life, the jeffersonian squad tries something from their victim's life (bucket list). I personally was not super interested by the case, but that might be because it's so different from the Pelant arc. Still a good episode, and so a 8/10 for seeing my comfort characters happy.
Bones: The Sense in the Sacrifice (2013)
yapping!! (hi bonesbooth)
9/10 bc of happy ending.
Best parts:
"she never hated you. She just didn't believe in the stuff that you were saying."
MARRIAGE
Worst parts:
personally (and this might just be me) I could use less visuals of the close-ups of the organs/flesh ripping in the beginning. (team clean bones?)
Pelant as a character never really made a ton of sense to me. He started as this super smart guy who wanted to take down the government and expose coverups (the corpse in the file room, using crystal creek survivors, etc) and in this episode he takes a role of an obsessive stalker who's attempting to woo Dr. Brennan. It makes Pelant's arc for me go from "invincible invisible hacker who hates the government" to "ugh really creepy guy who can't take no for an answer." It feels like they scrapped all of his old motivation for being a villain and channeled it into this other direction.
Silly bits:
Aldo never has any customers. His bar has TERRIBLE business. How is he still open? Imaginary bartender? Ghost bartender?
If I was Booth I would not trust that Pelant hadn't modified the grenade. "It's from a comic book" I don't care. He hacked the internet using his library books. He could've made that thing explode.
"Like all of us, he has two sides to him." They just had the episode where there was the triangle and the "three sides to people's personalities." I know that Ethan Sawyer and Aldo Clemens probably never got the chance to collaborate on their philosophies, but still, I note it every time.
Bones: The Cheat in the Retreat (2013)
rambling reviews
Things I LOVE:
-Tony & Roxie (duh) (10/10 for that alone)
-Brennan chanting in latin to call upon Kelly's ancestors
-the gay couple was the only other one who wasn't cop or murderers that like actually seemed to solve their conflicts so yay!! Lot of shows have a hard time giving lgbtq+ ppl a happy ending so even tho this is like a brief thing I like it. They had to introduce another bickering couple instead of making the husbands fight.
Confused about:
-"oo look at these tire tracks" yes they're very obvious I can see them with my eyes.
-why cam identity theft plot? Is there a reason? Just for drama? Which real, but I always wonder why they were like "lets do an identity theft plot"
Bones: The Secrets in the Proposal (2013)
general ramblings by griffin
Hi, the bones booth!!!
Bones has been a hyperfixation for a few years and I got an entomology internship this summer and everyone in the lab listens to music/podcasts, so I have FINALLY caught up with all of your episodes (and it only took three months, five days a week, 9-5!) so, hi!!! This is my first review on imdb ever!!!!
Notes
-shoutout daisy being the only one whos properly outfitted with PPE (hood on, goggles, white suit)
-this might be like hindsight 20/20 but why has NO ONE figured out the reason booth cant propose. Sweets was literally like "um pelant likes to be the center of attentionnnn he won't like thiss" and then booth revokes his proposal immediately and sweets is like "oh my goodness gracious me oh my I guess this man does not love Bones anymore even tho that has been an undeniable truth for almost a decade la dee dah" COME ON PUT THE PIECES TOGETHER!! U guys r the best and brightest and u cannot figure out that this incredibly manipulative man might be manipulating? (minus points for that!!)
-"its ur turn to ask next time" <333 RAHHHHH IM SO NORMAL
-DAISY WICK NO ONE WILL EVER CHANGE MY MIND ABOUT YOU YOURE BEAUTIFUL AND PERFECT "would you care to high five?... I can do it myself" she's so cute
-protective Angela is the love of my life fr fr.
-all of the banter+chemistry between bones and booth is gone. OUCH (plus points)
-Aldo and Booth are SOOOOOOOO angsty and dramatic "how long has it been since my last confession" my brother in christ, what!! Go home to your DAUGHTER (minus points)
-did turning the air conditioner back on not destroy more evidence by slicing+dicing?
-seen this ep lots of times and every time sweets gets flung back im like WHAT THE HELL.
-case is kinda boring for something involving a CIA dude.... tbhhhh... there's a reason I never remember this ep.
