Rumours (2024)
It tickled my personal bias just enough while being moderate.
Sure this ultimately lampoons the big showy multiple committee chair politicians and loosely or broadly common stereotypes around such liberal pursuant or at least those representing such values on the surface if not in spirit and action.
Although certainly some of the cerebral processes are in line with the most vapid stereotypical examples of today. OF those surely unfit to rule and lead but winning due to popular sentiments and feelings
Compared to the "apprentice" hit piece for example which only mildly implies some of it is outright fiction and most of it has been wildly sensationalized or dramatized for dramatic license and not some 007 license to political assassination attempts at the most timely of times to attempt them.
The movie really delivers that classic horror trope of the dumbest teens or the most busy hooking up teens have the least chance of surviving or living towards the end.
Of course the notion here being that liberals are a lot like such youths overwhelmed by their other natures drives and hormones on full production.
That ultimately they cannot rely on adult things like reason or cold logic or simple action over words.
Its not a difficult formula mind you to copy modern stereotypical perceptions and put them into characters in a thinly rational horror premise but it worked well for me.
A nice timely catharsis over the modern direction of extreme politics as a process to better control or guide the voter.
If it wasn't more effective it wouldn't be turning into the new thing.
Hopefully it doesn't cross the not yet determined line of how many assassinations or civil unrests are created due to such oppositional rhetoric.
IT just seems worse to see the blue team playing the same game harder and more disingenuously than anyone has ever done before. Like some small spoiled red headed child on the playground throwing a complete melt down to test the limits of adult society and his peer groups tolerance.
Yet to have the 2024dems who lost using the kind of campaigning that even then assured them of the complete lack of moral character someone else and of course being proof now going so far above and beyond that old limit today while saying we are nothing like that at all and so much better...
Well it reminds me of my first marriage. I could have tolerated a lot but lying to someones face about the evil one has done is worse and more childish than even having done the evil willfully.
Of course this is one of those strange hate bombed content pieces by the american politics army of content creation and comments.
Who can say what percentage is even coming from mentally unwell domestic citizens versus say foreign acting farms or armies of content creators from other big nations like china or russia?
No shortage of absolutely illogical reviews about how the movies is very bad.
Take a look at cate blanchets history record and the work she does and you will see she tends to do good work a few money makers and this the controversial content arena she visits more than most.
Cate is i think personality wise a disruptor of the status quo without being terrible aligned to any ideology completely. Ive seen her do such tongue in cheek social and political commentary comedy content frequently.
Its often my favorite roles for her as it seems her stoic face comes even more alive and expressive during the making compared to other more drier go through the motions content.
I guess at the end of the day two kinds of people will like and hate this. Those who can laugh and take a joke and those who can't... won't.
The reality is its far less extreme and offensive even as it tends to be biased against the brilliance of all those far more educated democrats errr i mean liberals globally than say the apprentice or any other recent mockumentary.
I mean look at oppenheimer the masses loved that run time epic just because they threw a lot of nudity and sex at it while otherwise doing so much less than many other movies and series have managed with far less lingerie to get it into the bedroom tvs.
It does still seem to suffer from being the kind of humor intellectuals tend to create who really don't have that living thriving childish humor alive anymore and instead have to hinge their light hearted enjoyment on the absurd or the other thing.
Some of the other reviews one might read about this leave a thinking person very concerned about the future.
I actually saw many of the "review bombers" outright denying the very basic ideas used and promoted in the film. Basic things like the stereotypes themselves. You know the things that are representative of the repetitive traits of the common groups? Yeah well many of those review bombing geniuses are pretty sure stereotypes are wrong which only illustrates a complete lack of understanding of basic concepts or at least that they have been taught modern thinking so effectively they can't actually think or reason without reaching an emotional state first during which everything seems to line up again and there are no conflicts between the emotional and the purely logical which they mostly seem to have misplaced.
There that wasn't a review that was the intro to the film so you could get your mind right and appreciate it! Your welcome!
At the end rumours will still feel less insulting than watching agatha all along and realizing the title made you a double moron because you instinctively knew it was a dumb title with a purpose and you ignore it to watch it anyway because one of the witches wasn't hard to look at and a couple older ones weren't without career achievements.
It's Not Funny Anymore: Vice to Proud Boys (2024)
wow another timely partisan political piece at such a timely release!
Just an endless stream of low budget content that all struggles to sway partisan politics at the most timely of times.
Of course the main idea here is that the left sees freedom to change or have varying ideas or to "change teams" is the height of inhumanity.
I always thought those were the founding concepts of america at least as a small child.
Sadly this is all about how somethings are good some bad and there is no lack of clarity degree context or nuance to such concepts as viewed from the left.
Fortunately such presentation and condemnation of varied ideas don't come off the least bit fascist. Unless of course you play for the other team or have transitioned politically or ideologically.
Sadly the reality of hypocrisy and endless double standards of inequality are the only real heart behind the noble blue party and the left.
Most people who issue such sad things into the world without a chance of a long and happy productive life do so in the shower or perhaps into a sock.
This close to election season the left has been slinging such wrist webs all over our screens.
Reminds me of the one time i visited california.
Star Trek: Lower Decks (2020)
Cheap formulaic drivel that quickly turned into shameless internal promotion vehicle.
Yeah i watched and enjoyed it well enough. To be fair trek has been in a virtual content desert for some time with the brand being divided and changed or modernized so wildly it has left the bulk confused and divided not much unlike politics or how social media can bring people together while dividing them more than ever and isolating them at the same time.
This nonsense relies entirely on nostalgia early on with even a shifting identity of desperation.
It doesn't even seem to know what it wants to be beyond affordable and cost effective.
It quickly became more like filler. Although i can appreciate it can still be a decent family viewing of mixed ages.
The age group and content plays like most modern content trying to be inclusive to the widest audience while being only satisfying enough to achieve the goal.
Frankly the service isn't exactly a financial boom town so the timing seems like desperate filler to retain subs year round amongst the trek fan base.
Oddly some people love it still. I loved it just as much at first. Til they spent a whole season when another live action show was discovered to be having ratings and numbers issues.
Oddly the shift from lower decks is a TNG era themed cartoon went quickly by the way side to normalize promoting all the trek series and even modern movies but by the proportion or balance of promotion of all the content you realize thats just cover for the main goal now to cross promote discovery.
Seemed an entire season was focused mainly on forcing such promotion into the season with little good stories or coherent (even on the cartoon level) episodes.
In the end the characters become grating as they often blend age quantifiers up as normal such that seemingly youthful or adult characters retain an absurd amount of immature child-like traits that would never make it to even lower decks star fleet much less the higher ranks they ultimately achieve.
Worse they call it lower decks which really isn't the true persistent theme at all. ITs more like Star Trek: Lesser ships or perhaps lesser posts.
All you really get is the sub compact ship setting with the same ultimately largely main crew bridge staff.
In short time it losses its very own soul and name sake to some fevered dream or cosmic radiation affecting cognizance.
Still its a cartoon and i had read up on it before i ever committed to subscribing and watching it.
Frankly discovery was so majorly unpleasant to watch personally by the time lower decks came out my mental state was this is my escape from all the modern new trek around which seems to work awfully hard to hate actual logic science and proper methodology and structure.
Major themes in trek canon until the left slapped a suburu badge on it loaded up their dog family and went off glamping.
The moment this show began its desperate shameless bids to promote STD and make it seem normal and not like a built in saturday morning toy cereal advertisement i knew i had to quit it.
Many viewers don't seem to have had the same perspective or sensibilities.
Then again its a cartoon so maybe its the individuals and not the objective view of the content.
I came for the star trek lower decks.
I left because of the star trek upper decker.
The Devil's Hour (2022)
Season 2 only brings more delicious layers.
Its rare to find content that is so engaging. Perhaps the worst flaw in such morality plays or think pieces is once you know the gist or gimmick behind the show it surely must greatly diminish rewatchability.
Still that first trip through is a doozy. Capaldi is in what i see as his element or perhaps type casting if you will with tension drama and of course ethical conundrums.
Often times i find i have become a very critical minded viewer. Simple things like casting a child who couldn't possibly be biological for example is enough to put me off a show.
It can often be very little things that are deal breakers or perhaps when the production choices are so poorly executed they seem beyond careless and into insulting.
The theme of the show pays off again and again as it evolves and will definitely keep you guessing although it isn't too terribly cagey about trying to guess the ending either.
It retains a strong level of mass appeal or accessibility to its mystery and it really connects a lot of themes with its old world religious devils hour title to modern ideas playing out that are really symbiotic rather than either or.
These days i find i prefer fairly intelligent content mixed with the occasional entirely vapid puff entertainment.
I can't think of many moments in the entire series that i took issue with at all.
We the People 2.0 (2017)
Only one awful review for this?!
I saw only one of the least review name worthy reviews as is the norm on imdb these days for some long years.
Its awkward to see what is clearly irrational left aligned hate that mocks the substance of the doc as "emotionally manipulative" clap trap.
Is not an emotional plea to override any balance of reason or objectivity the main backbone of modern democrat political "issues".
Still you have a documentary about a clear and massive imbalance of power and rights within the system itself.
According to "don" who is apparently still a valid reviewer caught up in the must vax or you killed the world mentality of the 20s assures us if you happen to drive the wrong non green vehicle or are the wrong apparent skin color or race you don't deserve pity or equality.
Imagine complaining about rural people driving vehicle with clearance and offroad capability.
The kind of ignorant comment only someone who has never lived in such conditions through storms and common floods that often demand such escalation in vehicle capability.
When you live rural and sparsely you take a lot more care for yourself than any town or government.
The one crying a review as valid is acting like a child while calling out emotional manipulation yet clearly having no actual understanding or emotional balance themselves.
Hence the top to bottom irrational illogical and full on emotional nonsense post.
Its simply another tight angle on the rights of the people vs the rights of business groups or corporations as a continuance of ideas put forth in many other docs.
Normalization would be a big one that discusses the longer term patterns as a documentary.
Of course many of our modern media educated partisan activists today have become so misled and programmed they shamelessly parrot pure emotional clap trap while crying about emotional clap trap.
Still what would i know? Im prob one of those rural weirdos who just won't vote right and see the real emotional truth of things while driving the wrong vehicle and still being far less influential or powerful in the governments eyes and laws than individuals.
The only other review couldn't even touch on the basic concept of the documentary showing me they either didn't actually watch it or simply couldn't be bothered to reserve enough objective reason to comprehend the basic and simple obvious meaning expanded over a long runtime.
Thats the world today. No shortage of idiots proud of their idiocy it seems.
We the people is the first and most important framing of the declaration of independence.
It shows who the government is intended to be and to serve. It may have been a war funded by the wealthiest white men who then too had issue with paying exorbitant taxes without reasonable exchange like representation.
Its the exact same dynamic at work here today and those words don't say we the people and corporations with equal and often more rights than private individual citizens.
That is important or should be to us all across all party lines.
Strange to see wild leftist ideas of the 20s seeming blindly hateful to corps who are today in campaign terms not paying their fair share of taxes like the wealthiest people.
Yet 4 years ago without direct thought guidance a poor lost left sheep was speaking for corporate energy entity powers over the individual.
Tell me that isn't about as backwards as a person could get?
Being mad about big gas guzzling vehicles being the norm in rural areas for valid reasons. Yet being against cares because "rich white people" or in todays terms white people who aren't poor enough to pity as opposed to automatically revile... are upset about being pushed out of their environmental agricultural land pursuits rurally by large non green fuel acquiring rights and pollution issues.
Still thats the price you pay. From where i live i pretty much have to go online. Then its impossible NOT to come across a massively foolish leftist ideal being taken to its natural irrational practiced unreasoning through pure emotion and illogical arguments.
I wonder if we the people includes people who couldn't reason their way out of a wet paper sack if virtue signaling depended on it and there was no send or like button level of ease in the doing.
#UNTRUTH: The Psychology of Trumpism (2024)
You have to laugh at the disconnected themes and presentation.
Imagine saying we are going to have a "psychological" discussion around "trumpism". Then all you really do is avoid any direct specific psychological aspects beyond saying these guys are brainwashed fools.
Yet they clearly have never witnessed the exact same faults pervasive in both parties. Worse the bulk of the film is pretentious and modern for its own sake and audience.
Anything of merit won't come out for decades really examining the times and the man and phenomenon for decades until we have enough distance from it emotionally to evaluate it beyond partisan politics.
This is just another generic attempt to keep the emotionally reasoning voter to stay the course and get out and vote ftw. This won't sway any real undecided people. It certainly offers no real insight as to what it pretends to be aimed at a psychological discussion of pro trump fandom.
OF course the reality is the psychology and stakes in partisan political power in our country is often times very harsh and deeply exploitative.
Remember despite the economy being terrible the official line from the horses own mouth has been the economy is not only not doing badly but in fact has been fine the whole time!
A million simple examples from any side and so many shameless party antics demonstrates the reality there are plenty of whatever it takes to win players and mentalities.
Still if you want the same material regurgitated for the umpteenth time over the past nearly decade now that have only grown in escalation like a well aged fishing story there is an all you can eat buffet.
Bring plenty of salt and ketchup cause its from a very played out casserole leftovers recipe being served in a timely manner purely to cement voters who already concur with its ideas and exclusively biased emotional reasoning.
To bad no one is worried about the psychology of such emotionally focused anti reason campaigns. They aren't unique in the slightest to trump. He simply did what was the status quo in a successful way that caught them off guard and humiliated them in the worst way in 2016 and he has never been forgiven.
Jennifer Falls (2014)
Ouch. Still unwatchable.
I had forgotten just how terrible the show really was.
I got on a nostalgia kick to look up things i hadn't seen or couldn't at least recall trying to watch so many years ago.
Well sadly this while having some fun actors comedians and that easy tv land styling of its day couldn't make up for crippling lack of attention to significant details.
I had to run away screaming at the realization this was a 250K investment banker... who lost her job went insta broke presumably for having bad budgeting or general money management and moves home.
The dangers of stopping to think about a thing for even a second. Like how exactly does one of the most successful female investment bankers of her day with only a personality or attitude problem become seemingly destitute so quickly?
Seems that basic finances and money skills would be pretty heavily included in typical financial investment degrees plans.
After that as much as i enjoy the rest i just couldn't get past the pilot yet again recalling all the disappointment after a strong run of capable programming around this time from tv land.
Had a real feel of we spent most of the budget on the talent and took it out of the writers producers end which surely accounts for the strange massive oversights that occur just often enough to distract you from becoming invested in the story and characters.
I doubt even nudity from the star stunner could have smoothed over the rough spots in this. How did this even go in this condition from pilot to series in the first place?
Funny Woman (2022)
Twice tried twice quit! There obviously won't be a 3rd mistake to shame on me.
When this first came out i recall watching it or most of it before finding some of the modern times reflected in obtuse ways uncraftily at times inserted as modern progressive values.
At one point they actually state this is progress and you can't stop it! Well a generation learned about the basic fundamentals of human nature watching the instinctively compulsive Jerry springer shows or any number of common cranked out reality nonsense or vapid cookie cutter sit coms.
Some are real gems but this spoof mock version with gemma while engaging at first just seems to have ill fitting bits and moments apart from its almost great success across the board and so many social issues of then and now well portrayed.
She does the typical bit bouncing from the first star romance to other near star romances and following her random impulses and living up to qualities some are sure she embodies and others can't admit are her reality.
Perhaps the real feminist message here or generally progress for progresses sake is good and unstoppable is oddly counter to the entire concept. That a man who gave her everything to get in the door without selling herself or her flesh naturally gets ignored for the bulk of the show despite obvious signs connections and awareness of a deeper more significant relationship potentially.
Maybe thats just the way most of us are built when we don't have developed training to counter or offset our nature and instincts with higher reasoned and more logical behavior and conduct in the mix.
Worse its so dated and poorly done it doesn't even hold up to the lucy character it derives from heavily. Not one imitation scene or comedy bit seems to evoke an actual laugh.
Hard to believe i watched all but the last episode and realize not once did i laugh in a show exclusively categorized as "comedy".
I mean its funny on paper and you can appreciate the jokes but there wasn't one single such moment that could force much less tease laughter out of me.
Thats the measure of quality. I think what has gone wrong here might be too much american influence perhaps in the production ruining what is often a higher different comedy standard out of the UK.
Still i watched the vast bulk of it and surely i watched most of season 1 twice to even recall it in any detail.
It has plenty of value and successes from wardrobe sets locations accents and the whole laundry list. The one place it seems it was meant to succeed however somehow completely missed me.
Feels like a series of dad jokes and salacious non sequitur that have no purpose except to point out the vast wasteland of middle grade comedy.
Thats just my take. Watch by all means but appreciate everything else for its quality and if you find any comedy along the way be sure and take notes and send them over so i can get an actual out loud laugh in.
Closest i came to laughing was at myself for watching a comedy that couldn't make me even chuckle half heartedly at its cleverness.
I couldn't recall having quit this the first time finding those moments when it pulls you out of the immersion. Once out this barely polished or plausible act falls flat and lame.
For me the tiredest trope of all is the "cute girl" less outgoing guy will they won't they gimmick that really just becomes a tired pointless exercise.
Of course.
War Game (2024)
This documentary has it none!
Its sooo bad.
Whatever you expected prepare for even more disappointment.
Most of what you watch is anything but intellectual or art. To even associate it with the very word thought is an insult to the act.
The vast bulk of your time will be sadly spent watching what seems to be a collection of nobodies and actual somebodies who are still at the rank of nobodies do their worst impression of "acting".
I presume that the goal is some sort of bad video tube pod cast show where people toss together some kind of hideous L. A. R. P. practically off the cuff or with some loose outline or notes.
Despite the pretense at times of some actual effort or basis for the premise presented there is so little actual substance for the hypothetical war game. The cast about broadly with random pictures and the vaguest of constructed scenarios without any consideration of actual details or context.
Of course you get plenty of reality tv quality jerry springer drama manufactured in hyper small scenario details of the feared human cost in individual or small example very small scale terms. About the only places timely and appropriate if still amateurish music backing comes into play to kick off your emotional anxiety response by the instrumentals.
The rest at best has vague unnoticed tones as if lulling you into some trance state of easy absorption and little higher thought.
Perhaps documentaries are like science themselves and should never be questioned. Is that the new thought process for the very science of unbiased nonpartisan so on and so forth documentaries incidentally pouring out in explosive proliferation just before election time?
This feels like all the quality of a handful of high school students project papers on tiny writing aspects of a fictional second insurrection or coup by a very partisan democrat party. Recognize how you spend close to half the films run time having the buzzword "insurrection" thrown at you as if by some automatic linguistic programming weapon. At times in relation to the "insurrection act" and in general usage to keep ones preprogrammed language associations and emotional conditioned responses firing for this bland flavorless propaganda so poorly constructed it should have MRE stamped on the side and seem questionably beyond its recommended ingestion date.
Stopping the Steal (2024)
Entirely watchable but ones own bias determines the overall enjoyment.
Yeah i fell for it again hopeful to see a documentary with little bias.
Don't get me wrong the overt bias in the presentation is fairly minimalized or more accurately hidden from plain view.
Still its a long exercise in the usual limited inputs and only discussing half of the factors on a topic.
It continues to make typical biased conclusions while not being overall wrong painting a far worse picture than reality in classical partisan biased fashion.
They for example often make claims against its own premise. At times they might point out how there wasn't enough direct voter fraud to account for the steal claim.
Naturally you link one piece of evidence to a following premise as support even though it is only partially in support of the erroneous premise to follow.
Next they expand from not enough voter fraud found to account for a stolen election expanding that the election was entirely fair and proper.
Naturally they don't include any discussion about the many factual problems discovered after the fact about illegal funding tech interference and more. Yet they will use a piece of information that covers only a fraction of the premise to support the whole. Its quite specifically like trying to tie down a tend with only one peg.
Mind you i still remember the first day i noticed the vaunted tucker engaging in the same sort of false reasoning.
Facts are its all biased and while you find an endless series of reviews telling you how it is or what to think all i want is for you to learn to recognize bias bad reasoning and how to see through it by practice.
While i admit i am ever so moderately pro trump i could never quite swallow the steal notion myself as presented.
The very idea that the election could have been stolen on voter fraud alone directly would of course have to be a conspiracy and turning point in governmental corruption becoming so pervasive one could no longer have any faith at all in any government leadership.
This documentary is a fairly quality exercise however in recognizing clever well masked bias pretending to be an objective and informative discussion on the matter.
Sadly it has one goal to sway the election outcome and public perception or reinforce existing ones.
Another troubling scene was the general persistent vilification of all things trump and gop.
Despite nothing happening the mere presence of citizens following their legal rights to be armed and protest are carefully described as "making people very angry" or some such feels nonsense.
I found that to be the most hilarious crack in the sky. A politician or government representative being actually incensed merely over the peaceful exercise of peoples rights misguided or not.
That tells the real whole story you need to know about government.
Or perhaps rather the shameless depths of inconsistent ideologies from one party that is without fault or imperfection. The only party that has never known corruption or told a lie!
The only thing being stolen is the ability for individual reasoning often from those who struggle generationally and familialy achieve it.
A Halloween Feast (2024)
The quality of the fake reviews are about even less than the actual products quality.
It was surprising the vast gap between the apparent current "ratings" and reviews and the actual movie.
This plays like a typical classic bad tv movie with general nobodies or unknowns.
If you can tolerate that sort of quality of production you might indeed just find things to enjoy buried under that budget value mass produced poor quality controlled content.
Personally the every general aspect from the lackluster display of fx or the simple audio which while not horrible or by any means the worst of the worst or exceptionally bad it embraces fully that tv movie median level of quality.
I think this plants it soundly below a 5 and at a 4 for me although certainly i could understand rating it in the range between the two.
I simply didn't have the capacity to find even one lifeline to cling to like the one semi decent actor or perhaps that one good performance or bit of writing.
On paper at a glance the concept sounds promising but the reality is simply cold and hard and glaring.
If you have more expectation for A Halloween Feast beyond its reality prepare for an early famine leading into the cold lean winter of the season.
This awkwardly is hiding behind its own halloween mask of seemingly paid reviews or deeply biased and shameless self promotion that seems a common trend these days evidenced usually by very early low numbers in the ratings to indicate the disingenuous promotional campaign tactic on the cheap for the cheap.
The best way to watch this would be under a cheap ghost costume where you don't cut the eyeholes out of the sheet.
Ganymede (2024)
Yes its a solid 4.
Still the premise and basic story and concept aren't awful.
One could almost simply go down the cast list and realize just how this movie was doomed to rate.
Its a long list of D list or one hit wonders and so on or never were's.
It even has cliched obligatory shots for some reason that are purely cinematic but anything but realistic in the least.
There are even fairly obvious technical details that id pick at if i had any prior expectations of such detail being addressed well.
Frankly im amazed at how not awful tv movie it managed to be while still rating overall in the same field.
Still there are some good bits. Frankly this could have been cut into a short form short film and be amazing cutting all the padding and dead weight out to make it reach feature length if not feature worth.
Still don't let me mislead you from not seeing if it might be for you at the right time and place because i watched more than my share of 4's and 5's in my own youth for anything but reasons like taste or sophistication.
Often quite the opposite i was more engaged by simple or low brow entertainment action violence and of course every teen boys favorite accessible nudity to some degree in the distant days before free internet access to such things was so pervasive and mainstream.
The great thing about bad movies and bad times is sometimes you need them if only for the contrast to appreciate similar content done to a much better overall quality.
How would we know a far superior version of the gay sexual awakening trope versus family complications traditions or sometimes strict religious fundamentalism if we didn't have something terrible thrown into the average of such genres?
Ganymede seems somehow necessarily bad. When you are content to invest less and make less as long as you can line up profits overall.
I almost think the worst part about it is the unfortunate name choice.
To me it doesn't make a lot of sense despite a minimal attempt to explain it in the film. After trying to understand the choice there are so many seemingly superior options of other mythical characters that would surely fit so much better than this story.
When you don't have all day and endless resources this is what you get when you just have a job to get done.
Is Mindfulness Right for You? (2021)
A discussion about mindfulness can have many outcomes.
Strangely i read the reviews before watching this to try determine if it was an appropriate fit for me.
Seeing the 3 reviews 2 of them having odd comments about objectifying women piqued my interest.
I went watching and watching and waiting for the excessive and gross misuse of the female form and its beauty as being a terrible thing.
I think i spotted maybe a handful of seconds long brief moments where women did occasionally appear in backgrounds.
I thought this is odd that two reviews focus entirely on this in a series about "mindfulness" as being excessive!?
Lets just say i learned a lot.
