  • Heroic duel in a living steam engine

A very strong movie of some mortals fighting for survival in a vast cast-iron factory (which seems to be an organic and living entity). The genre is something of a steam-punk drama. Although the introduction page says "Plot Keywords: ironic", in my opinion it is more like grotesque, and far from ironic. This is a mannish, brute film, having such a gravity that won't let you rest for a second. I saw this movie ten years ago and I still have a vivid memory of it. In spite of the soberly dry presentation, I wouldn't call it an art movie. It is really a pity that didn't make it's way to the broader public. Maybe a bit arguable comparison, but Sin City was something like that later - strong visuals, masculine perspective, harsh story driving. Of course Sin City is actually a film noire, not like Children of the Iron God. I recommend this movie for that few lucky people who have the rare chance to get a copy of it or see it in a cult movie somewhere.
