I was pretty gripped by this, having just binge-watched the last two episodes. There were times when I didn't really know what was going on, and times when I wanted to say, No, don't go into the woods AGAIN, in the dark, just don't! But I found the characters engaging and eccentric (I'm officially in love with Viveca) and there was enough of a cliff-hanger at the end of each episode to make me impatient for the next one. And ultimately, it doesn't matter whether you buy into other-worldly stuff or not - it can be complete tosh, like this probably was (see also: Stranger Things), but if you're enjoying it, why the hell not?

I fail to understand why our two Scandinavian friends are so vehement in their dislike - I got the echoes of Twin Peaks and Stephen King, but so what? It's all out there. And I thoroughly enjoyed it - and they're probably less enchanted by hearing Swedish spoken than I am.

I am astounded by the obtuseness of the people here complaining that this beautiful movie lacks plot or narrative. A man and a woman drastically unsuited to each other have a child. The child spends some time with his father before his mother takes him away for good, far out of the father's reach. That's a huge story! Handled here the way it is, simply and sensitively, without false tension or wrong notes, this film delivers no thrills - no sharks, no drug cartels, no Russian submarines - just beautiful images and genuine emotions. The two fishermen are at one with nature, living lightly on the earth, or the sea rather, and they pass on their knowledge and wisdom to the boy with love. David Attenborough makes fine nature documentaries, obviously, but they have nothing to do with this movie.

...as Ronald Pickup would have said to his hapless son. In this case it's directed at those losers at the Beeb. Get your fingers out, for goodness sake! Put The Riff Raff Element out on DVD! When you look at the stuff they do put out, it's hard to understand. For instance, I see from Amazon that the Beeb has put out Series 6 of Bergerac this week. You'd think they could spare us that for a month or two (it's always on satellite anyway) and put this wonderful series out instead. It's really hard spinning this comment out to ten lines because of IMDb's rules - I've said all I want to say really, and now I'm just waffling to get the length up. I hope readers will forgive me!
