Timeless classic fantasy movie
27 February 2024
My take: The movie is exceptionally crafted, I liked the background score but felt that songs were not that necessary especially where he is tied to big pillars.. This movie reminds us of many movies... Ennio morricone background score from Western spaghetti movies and frames like wild west, Reminded me of sholay, the samurai sword of Japanese culture, the lady with claw reminded of Bruce Lee movie, man with iron fist, sometimes it felt like theatrical style etc..

There is no timeline for this movie... This is not before independence, not after independence, nor is it after an apocalypse...

It's a fictional fantasy movie of a person who is after creating history in his name using his physical power and this makes it highly experimental in it's making...

Like Lalettan and LJP it's like Amar Chithra Kadha Yes it's slow paced movie and it's not everyone's cup of tea... Only thing I didn't like were the use of wire to fly around it seems artificial...

Lalettan was superb after a long time, music was good, camera and the art dept everything great.... This movie was his ticket out from conventional movies

If you are a fan of fiction, fantasy, out of the box thought experimental movie this movie is definitely for u... Visually it's a Marvel and treat for your eyes

LJP:: please continue making such movies

Still no plans to change, still no plans to impress...

Time will prove his worth.... Timeless classic his movies will be.

Resurrection: Ertugrul (2014–2019)

A good highly fictionalized series
27 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I heard about this series after Pakistan highly praised it and Saudi, UAE banned it. So I wanted to see what it was all about. I reached 5th season now. I wanted to share my views about the series what I understood and felt. Before starting the series I heard it's like game of thrones Turkish version but it is not game of thrones version which I will elaborate. Game of thrones makes us hate a character nd then when we start begin to like that character, he or she is likely to be killed off. The pros of this series are: 1. Production value: They gave spent huge amount of money in details of dress, tent, sheep herders, places, castle, the swords, fighting techniques etc.. I had visited gulf museum and so I can relate the culture and history better with this series 2. Lighting: lightning conditions for particular scene are also except except for few shots in sun that go overexposed 3. Most of the Character chosen are also neatly done because each character villain, hero or sidekicks have their own expression. Take ural he is cunning, coward and always egoistic which was portrayed by the actor exceptionally or take Emir who is cunning, crooked and like a politician very adaptable.. This goes on 4. Fights are choreographed to the best 5. Shows that Turks hate Mongols nd vice versa.

Cons: 1. A fiction that even the director says couldn't find more than 5 pages about ertugrul becomes history through series for people who won't check facts 2. Believers from one community killing brothers of other community because they don't have same belief... Is a bit one sided in this era of globalisation 3. Murders and revenge are being justified with stories 4. Too many episodes and too many philosophies that were imparted to give more importance in religion rather than continuation of story which I had to fast forward. 5. The version I got blurred out blood but showed head being cut... Which I feel is double standard. Showing blood would be much better than showing head cut off.

So overall a fiction that showed how nomads fought against other nomads, same community, other communities and how Ottoman Empire was formed and why even after many centuries Turkey and Saudi don't look into same direction

Hitchcock's THE BIRDS magnified
20 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The first thing that crossed my mind is the famous Alfred hitchcock and his movie The birds, the second being Manoj night Shyamalan's The happening, where the nature begins to fight back against humans and human atrocities.

This series increases the magnitude to everything.

The acting section seemed a bit off, direction was good, some vfx seemed unnatural for example the plane that was given to find the leopard.

Totally a one time watch series

Great ideas and frames
18 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
With above 400 reviews my review ain't going to give boos and hails but rather giving out what I loved vs what I didn't like.

The movie revolves around 2 brothers, their competition as to throne ascending.

SS Rajamouli's Bahubali 1 and Bahubali 2 has pretty good resemblance to Mahabharata and its storyline. The way he presented this magnum opus project with details on characters and story makes it more interesting.

What I loved:: 1.Ideas and beautiful framing for that ideas::Unique ideas with absolute importance to each frame is what I loved and I am going to give one after the other a.Movie start with 3d animation work of last movie to give idea of what all happened. b.Stopping elephant rampage by using Elephant God(Lord Ganesha) c.Bahubali climbing elephant and then elephant picks up bow for baahubali to fire the arrow d.Introduction for beautiful Anushka as Devasena(been her fan since her 1st movie Super) e.Bahubali and Kattapa fight scene syncing and sharing the weapon. f.Making beautiful Anudhka more gorgeous. g.Showing Devasena picture to Sivagami h.Providing importance to female character by showing Devasena is independent and brave i.Firing three arrow at same time reminded me of wonder woman first fight sequence but still had authenticity. j.Firing 6 arrows using both actors at same time from 1 bow k.Baahubali intro to Devasena l.Grand intro of Makishmadhi(even though reminded of LOTR sort of statues) and intro of Devasena to court m.Throne ascending cermony(reminded me of Independence day parade) but still great n.Devasena being chained and Bahubali cutting of head o.Introducing Mahendra bahubali baby as new King.

Now the scenes I felt had to be modded or things I didn't like at all:: 1.Look Bahubali 1 and 2 the crowd consists of same people with same exaggerated version of happiness and sadness throughout. 2.Crowd(especially women cry throughout) when Sivagami walks, when bahubali eats their food(were they feeling pity towards him or for sharing food)or during Bahubali ascension as commander 3.Bahubali being a dumb guy 4.Kattapa being lowered to all hailing side kick and trying to be cupid :P 5.Cows/bulls on fire just vanishes during the dam destruction scene 6.Too much fear in the cousin fellow to bring in laughs 7.It was a moment to show crowd wanted bahubali it seemed like crowd were actually howling and making noise while his ceremony 8.Prince of Egypt(based on Moses the Ten Commandments) sort of scenes where he goes off to poor people and live with them and engineers many mechanism 9.strechable palm trees to shower water. 10.things for fighting being there at the right moment and place to defeat enemies while kattapa gets saved 11.Overacting(anger) by mahendra bahubali after hearing story 12.OMG the scene where he bends the palm tree to throw human catapult definitely made me feel gross 13.More to that 4 people catapulted lands on feet, hits the weapons, artilleries etc...... 14.One scene reminded old Mahabrata arrow sequence, that being bahubali and bhallaldeva throwing spear and bahubali spear breaks bhalladeva's spear and goes through it 15.Bhalladeva crying not to burn him(maybe they wanted to show inside he is a coward) but still it felt unnecessary 16.While the golden head of bhalladeva falls downhill the animation was I think given least importance.

These were my impressions. If you like it please click like.THanks in advance

Nothing special
26 April 2017
Warning: Spoilers
The movie revolves around movie Possession. Many people who suggested this movie said that it was really good, but I understood they have never seen English horror genres. Things confusing to me and my friend:: 1.If the ghost was actually Ezra(a male) then Who the hell is the ghost lady whom the heroines sees from time to time?? 2.Why Prithviraj always uses eye liner and dark make up around his eyes in all movies(Paaavada to portray he is drunk,Memories also same) Anyway a bad ripoff, bad acting by Prithviraj as ghost affected guy....

High potential movie lowered to masala flick
1 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I am a huge fan of Mohanlal sir's magnum opus movies like Guru,Kalapaani,Brahmaram etc where Lalettan and movie as a whole have lot more potential and worth the watch.

Let me 1st say about the positives in this movie:: 1.Lalettan's fight(excluding the fight for his lorry where gravity gets defied with stupid wire tricks and with Vinu mohan on his shoulder) 2.Lalettan's presence of mind(acts shy when Namitha looks at him,his love proposal scenes with Kamalini etc) 3.Animation was pretty decent than in most of the movies we see 4.The child version of pulimurugan and his uncle

Remove all these negatives and you would have got at least a decent watchable action-animation movie without any storyline:: 1.You see the younger version of Pulimurugan's uncle as supportive and matured guy while the older version is somewhat stupid and just wants to lay with his wife 2.Kamalini mukherjee I had expected a lot from this lady but her role was limited to just a gloomy face lady and even her lip syncing is horrible 3.Namitha:Dont even want to talk about her. Why the hell they put her? There was no need of her 4.Suraj Venjaramoodu:A talented national award winner wasted to just a peeping tom character 5.Daddy girija: Another villain who was used miserably to just wait for his turn till last sequence.Needed to showcase the Jagapathi that we seen with much villainous tone 6.Moopan:Just to add build up and praise Pulimurugan he was added 7.Vinu mohan acting as an innocent village BOY :P 8.The overacting, over reacting Rammaiya

The movie has no storyline that will provide justice to Lalettans acting, action and pride.

3 movies in 1 with same romantic flick
3 August 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I gave 2 rating because it was copied from 5 different movies,so each movie credit gets half the star ;) The movies are:1.Varsham(Prabhas movie),2.Ong Bak(Tony Jaa).3.The Raid: Redemption/Robocop new edition 4.Karate Kid(Jaden Smith) and merged into silly romantic flick to form 1 movie. I watched it because my friend said it had Kalari(Kerala's Martial art form). I am an Indian first then Keralite, I feel pity towards film maker, stunt choreographer and other people involved in showcasing Kalari's superb martial arts in the wrong manner. The movie showcases a bit of Kalari only, more in dialogues than action. Most of action are acrobatic or western(please check out youtube for kalari videos). Also The magazine cover with SHraddha in the cover page has messed up Malayalam as a whole. They have written things that absolutely don't mean anything or give a complete meaning. Next time you take movie showcasing any place/language please don't degrade the language/place/art. Please do respect it. The movie starts with rebel who gets the girl with his charms and humor like many other movie and rain happens whenever they meet except when she is rescued ;) , then training session reminded of Karate Kid,then it moves to ong bak where Tony jaa runs/dives/somersaults/climbs etc do various stunts while comedians run around, then it goes to Hindi masala flick where heroine is rescued in always seen manner and heroine comes to know the truth and they fall in love again with music only to be kidnapped by villain again so that he can play raid redemption or even Robocop new edition. The action is OK when compared to fast action Chinese/Thai/Korean movies but better than most of Bollywood actions but it is far from being realistic to Kalari martial art form and far from fast movements. Anyways Shraddha Kapoor got screen time which most actress gets to be rescued and to be in love triangle sort of drama.

Family First,Don Second
28 July 2016
The movie was hyped with huge collection and record amount even before its release. I was amazed how the Rajni sir was able to pull off such a down to earth family/gangster movie rather than go for stereotyped Shanker formula of heavy songs/exotic places, masala elements, punch dialogues etc. Rajni sir was fantastic in 3 stages shown. The younger version, the bearded version and shaved version of old man. He played the role with such ease that you feel he is family man first and last, don is just a part of him. Radhika apte did fantastic job in the scenes she were given even though she had been part of movies that revealed her body to the maximum, here you see the actor in her rather than short dresses and explicit scenes. Dhansika did her part well with killer look and killer instinct. This movie has no scenes that makes you turn your head away. It is medium paced movie not the always seen fast paced fights/songs etc. Loved the movie really well. Director deserves special acclaim for bringing in another version without item dances and songs that take you way off the story. The music by Santhosh Narayanan is refreshing. As a whole it is a now treatment to Superstar movie by bringing the much needed Rajni sir back to screen. Only in some scenes did I feel his age reflecting and felt like he had a stroke as his lip on one side had a unusual curve. You wont get the Superstar fighting many villains, delivering punch dialogues nor will you see any item songs or actress shedding her clothes but you will see Superstar acting by Rajni sir,Radhika Apte and Dhansika. Please scrap off the masala elements and enjoy this down to earth movie

Shoot out the item songs
20 July 2016
Warning: Spoilers
The director made a masala flick with lots of item songs. The shooting should have cut and gave away crap of item songs to make it worthy action/underworld movie. The item songs are the worst scenarios that brought down my review to 6. The songs loosened the grip of storytelling and narration, not only that it didn't allow us to feel pity/angered at the Manya character even though he deserved it. John abhraham feels too old in this movie don't know why while Anil Kapoor seems a lot younger than John. The movie had the right elements of emotions/action/thriller/story and characters which all got toppled by crappy item songs. Please make a bluray with title "Shootout at Wadala without songs" and the rating will climb higher and get more acclaim. The movie has the seen or portrayed character from a lot of gangster movie but it remains in the mud because of unwanted elements.

Many movies merged to 1 good movie
18 June 2016
Warning: Spoilers
The movie has been scraped off bits by bits from several movies like Edge of tomorrow,Groundhog day etc which all says about time continuum. The movie is so far the best one and liked movie of Surya after several years to be exact after Vaaranam Aayiram(2008),he is a top notch actor who got carried away with same pattern of wig change/styles and no story just action and exceptionally over claimed hype. He has got this one right by adding in special effects and story line only 1 thing 1 don't understand, why is surya so obsessed with dual or tri characters? Take movies you will see twins,father-son etc charactersall played by surya. He needs to change it too which is becoming a stereotyping for a such fine actor like himself. The best things in the movie that I liked are: 1.Time travel portrayed in good manner 2.Gadgets animation works good(cradle, box, watch, stopped rain etc) 3.Villain character worked charm 4.Lullaby is a masterpiece 5.No heroic entrance to get all claps and all 6.Best selfie sequence with MS Dhoni

I am giving only 7 because they could have eliminated goofs and negatives which could have been eliminated to make this a masterpiece movie

I found certain negative in the movie and that's why 1.Unnecessary song sequence when they are in love and her seeing him among all the people, this number has been played several times in Indian movies and 1st song.

2.Same stereotyped thing:where the girl who he loves is in same village as his mother and even same family 3.Elimination of 26 years of coma, that too seen in many movies

3.Cliche Goofs that I found: 1. When Athreya goes down the stairs and he rewinds the watch everything comes back to normal, except for the fact Mani didn't know what happened next moment. If you recall the one who wears the watch will definitely know what happened 2. The wire with electricity that powered the watch in the last sequence was there for around 15-20 minutes while all the things happened and it still had power???? WTH someone should have changed that to something else.

Anyway what has been done can't be modified hope to see such quality movies from Surya. I had been fan of his until I saw Ayan after which it took 8 long years to see the Surya who has the potential to pull me back in the chair.

Feels like Hotel Rwanda Script merged into real situation
29 May 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Good effort in describing the conditions of people and providing looks and detail into the condition of people during crisis. Even though it depicted real life incident there are cinematic copies you can find if you have watched Hotel Rwanda and similar movies in Hollywood. Akshay Kumar did a good job in maintaining the spirit of movie and there was little role for others especially Nimrat Kaur who is too talented. The movie circles round Iraq invades Kuwait in August, 1990 and shows the inefficiency of system both internally and externally when crisis comes about. The politician shown depicted a guy who wanted to hold on to his throne even when lakhs of people are suffering and when they are saved due to efforts of others he takes the credit for it. This movie shows that there are innumerable number of unknown heroes who worked within to bring all people back to India. The best scenes were Vande Mataram song while Plane lifting off with 1st set of passengers and Akshay's character saying " I will never ask what my country did for me,after this last flight". A good effort to showcase historical event but script feels to been scraped from several similar Hollywood movies. Worth the watch

Cliché with new toppings
10 April 2016
Warning: Spoilers
The movie starts with an independent woman from Bangalore who wants to live a life on her terms and then life takes her for a ride where she becomes anxious about a never met guy and his life and ultimately falls in love with a vagabond hero. The movie is still clichéd with old chemistry where girl falls in love with jobless, down to the earth, fun loving, jovial protagonist. What makes this movie differ is its making and toppings of new generation characters who are all yo-yo(as they call now). We see woman protagonist whether that maybe Tessa or Kani falling in love. The music and BGM scores well with apt situation. There are many clichés 1.Hero-Heroine meets at the start but never sees, again & again Hero Heroine comes across but they don't meet until the last. 2.The independent woman becomes so much like other woman wanting to fall in love with jobless hero ;) 3.Hero helping everyone without thinking of anything The frames, music and lively attitude of the whole movie makes it so much expressive. Director, cinematographer, music, music director and actors added to the clichéd script making it good.Dulqer and Parvathy along with others did a fantastic acting.

Reality
2 December 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I wouldn't have reviewed this because it would be too small in front of Magnum Opus like Mr Kamal Hassan, Nasser,K. Balachander,Dr. K. Viswanath etc . The point I wanted to convey is we never get to see Yamini but feel so much for that invisible character and we feel want to see who that is for the entire time. The story was damn too good and the music by Ghibran was awesome especially the music called Letter to yamini. The movie I gave 9 because of the character portrayal by 2 ladies who made this movie too horrible to watch Pooja (was most terrible of all) and then Andrea. My god casting should choose better ladies to portray characters(especially strong characters) instead of these. I like Urvashi's character portrayal even though her I began hating her due to recent public appearances she made as drunkard (in Legislative assembly and during her divorce). It's unfortunate to see such talent go wasted with drinks and alcoholism.

Stupendous no way but Impressive
29 November 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I am not going to compare the movie effects with Hollywood standards as it would make Baahubali's VFX team look like amateurs but still the movie did a lot of work in terms of VFX which was never produced or seen in Indian movies till now. The movie is far from being cult or anything but yes it set new benchmark for VFX and everything. I am personally a fan of S S Rajamouli sir because of his attempts to bring in more VFX, but at the same time I(don't matter what I think then also) think he should stick onto the movies storyline rather than distracting it with unnecessary elements such as songs, item no.s and all. The movie's storyline is pretty much same that we have seen crooked villain father character tries to grab the throne that rightfully belongs to his brother's son by putting all sorts of negative mindset into his son, even lion king had same theme scar tried to kill his brother to achieve the throne but here it's his lost dream he is trying to achieve it through his son like Lion King 2 (where mom is the villain who blackens the child's mind).

Pros: 1.Better VFX seen till now in Indian movies 2.Characters by Ramya Krishnan,Sathyaraj,Daggubati,Anushka,Kalakeyya, conniving Nasser and Prabhas to an extent. 3.2 songs by Keeravani or MM Kreem as he calls(the song where he goes to top and life of 2 brothers from childhood) 4.The fight movements were good and esp sword movements. 5.Good choreography of action. 6.Building a set worth a look

Negatives: 1.VFX sometimes fails miserably examples: Prabhas and tammana escaping avalenche, Ramya Krishnan acting as a submarine, Prabhas jumping animations(not always sometimes) 2.The jumps feels realistic for a few moments then we can easily identify it as wired one, example he is following tammana and his first jump initially was natural then it turned to wired prospects look. 3.The elements of elastic Gada by Rana 4.People saying it got Oscar nomination while we have very good movies like Uttama Villain or Dumb Lagage Haisa or many other movies that couldn't get record in sales but was inspiring and down to earth. 5.Overacting by Tammanah when she got angry and usage for just beauty 6.Item songs and other songs. 7.Borrowing fighting technique from Chinese movie (the flying fire curtain) andthe cannonball idea when the director claimed that the fights would be all Indian style even used help of choreographers and trained actors by taking help from China's master stunt trainers 8.Trishool concept was good but it too borrowed from battle formation technique from another movie but it is explained as Sparrow formation don't remember the movie unfortunately to back my view.

Old pickle in new jar
26 October 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I watched the movie after all the hype settled down and DVD was released. I watched it just to know what is so much to hail about , is it worth the hype or just another movie that calls itself new generation.

First of all it is mixture of old seen things in a more trendy new gen way that's all.

Before I start about the movie I must say Alphonse Puthren needs to understand the meaning of being humble, because one movie got hit and he began writing open letter to other directors as though he has done something that no one could achieve.I am saying this because people like Sachin Tendulkar or Abdul Kalam Sir have achieved a lot. Sachin holds the record for most number of record breaking and Abdul Kalam sir has worked with most noted people and has worked for our country. We respect them for their achievements as well as their humbleness. There are many people whom we respect because of their humbleness. He created hype by claiming that he took this movie 5K resolution and no other theatre had this provision and began criticising the Cinema. People who think they know everything are the most ignorant people (because if he knew that no cinema has 5k resolution provision he wouldn't have took it in that way). He needs to understand that movie makers, actors and all associated had their ups and downs, I am not going to lecture about how he has to change or what he should do. Let him decide whether to humiliate himself and belittle himself by trying to show off his ignorance, that's up to him.

The movie has a lot of elements that Malayali audiences have nurtured and loved for decades. A hero who is anti hero and hero at the same time, like we used to love Lalettan in his Devasuram or Aaram Thampuran or Thoovanathumbikal or Mammuka from Kottayam Kunjachan, a lover who is dedicated to his love, friends who always provide shoulder, a dad who is friendly, college ragging, college lecturers and heroines who falls easily for the hero's charm.

I personally think the movie was inspired (even though people wont accept) from several movies like Thoovanthumbikal where Lalettan was sort of anti hero and hero in college, Cherans autograph,Gautam Vasudeva Menon's Vaarnam Aaayiram, friends who provide support to everything like in classmates or any other 80's movie.

I am teaching as guest lecturer in one of the named college in Trivandrum and after the movie became hit some of my colleagues who were teaching were called "malare" because the heroine in the movie is a guest lecturer who falls in love with the heroine, the students intensity of calling them increased and it lead to issue(even though a small one). I personally believe movies do inspire you to do what they show and this is one example of it, but it doesn't necessarily mean that all people do it, if that is so then after thoovanathumbikal got released every brother like character would be pimping out for his younger one or all people who failed in love would be going to prostitutes to avenge them. Nothing like that some people take these as part of movie and nothing more but some take inspiration to do it without thinking it could hurt others.

Is there so much in the movie for the hype between youngsters calling it their movie and other people saying it is degrading the ethical values and moral values??? I personally think this movie should have been left without people bashing over moral values and ethics, that way the hype surrounding around the movie wouldn't have gained momentum, like India did to Indias daughter(they banned it and people began anxious as to what is so much about that documentary)??

Finally the movie has pace till college days then it settles down to more of slow paced movie which has nothing much of an attraction except for the song and macho hero entering again into the arena, the music was good especially the Avalu vendra, the dappankoothu song (before the dance song or last music during credits), aluva puzha and malare. Anyway the movie starts in teens and ends up in middle age. Personally I think Nivin did justice to the role, because his portrayal of character in Ivide was horrible, terrible and pitiable which made several people think how he won State award. Sai pallavi was convincing as Tamil Guest lecturer, Kichu and friend character were notable, Vinay fort's professor character can be seen in many colleges where people don't know how to explain the concept and everything. The scenes do bring in nostalgia and a work that gets OK mark thats all. It is far from being a classic but yes it has got some people's attention that is all it is.

The hidden actor
21 October 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I have rated this movie 10 out of 10 because of several things. This movie is totally fictitious 90% chances of this happening is really rare, but then movie hai yaaar no questions. First of all let me start by Saying this "Sallu bhai you should select more movies like this because this is the only movie after several years I felt like you didn't overdo, you have talent bhai please use it to provide us with movies like these which are down to earth characters once in a year", the first thing that made me hold onto my seats was Shadia's smile( she is so cute and innocent). I expected masala flick where Sallu bhai hits many people and goes on removing shirt and heroine goes behind him like a dog because of his innocence, but no nothing like that happened. The movie is funny when needed and sentimental at times required. The balance in these along with no hyper or super power for star makes it completely entertaining. Stellar performances by Sallu bhai, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Harshaali Malhotra, Om puri(even though small role) and Sharat Saxena (with his well built body even now). Music comes little too much sometimes but yes it provides ample space for the director, camera guys and crew to show the beauty of places. The camera work at the start showing the mountains was just stunning and not going much into details. For people who are going to watch, its worth watch and collecting blu ray. Hope Sallu bhai does more these sorts of movie. Great work by writer, director and whole crew

Bhargavi Nilayam- A friendly Ghost in White
8 June 2015
Warning: Spoilers
*SPOILER ALERT*:

I recently had the pleasure to watch Bharagavi Nilayam (the most influential horror movie and one of the most famous and admired movie of all time) a 1964 movie by A Vincent, written by one and only Vaikom Muhammad Basheer and music scored by Maestro M S Baburaj Sir. I had been in search of the movie for a long time and finally I got the chance to watch this horror movie which I had been hearing a lot and now I am completely overwhelmed and happy that Vincent sir provided us with one of the most influential horror movies that made other movies follow its cult/path by setting a benchmark which all directors have been trying hard to reach.

The movie starts showing the haunted house and the ghost in white then after showing all the credits, the day arrives when the one of the protagonist of this movie the Veteran actor and well known actor of that time Madhu Sir takes this house for rent without knowing anything of being haunted. His dialog starts with Philosophical dialog that thanks the house for waiting for him. I found it quite amusing and laughable at that time but after watching it for a while understood the essence of movie lies in all the talks that he did from the start.

He takes walk around the village and everyone gets shocked and fearful after hearing he is planning to stay in Bhargavi Nilayam, but the character played by Madhu finds it quite thrilling and plans to stay there. This is where the story gets interesting. He learns little about the Male hating (Misandrist) she ghost whose name is Bhargavi from which the name of the house comes into life, so he talks to her calls her 'Bhargavi Kutti' as if he is treating a lady with love and respect and pleads her not to harm him as he is short on money and no where else to stay. Sun rises next day he wakes up goes to tea shop again all seemed shocked that he didn't end up dying or running away. I am not going much further into story. The movie goes on interesting with him talking to this ghost and getting her permission to write about her story (from her not that is heard from around the village).

I can surely say that has given every other movie after this a huge challenge. Only a handful of movies were able to break away to an extent from this movies storyline and one I could name is Manichitrathazhu, but it too has same sort of characters Dancer who falls in love with next door singer/composer who gets murdered by jealous guy(who wants her) and finally kills her too.

I wrote this review only because I am quite impressed by the film making and wanted to share what I could collect about the movie while watching movie.

This movie has set in a lot of things that has become common for all the movies taken after. What I loved about the making are: 1. They shot night scenes in the dark without much light, just enough light to show hero or heroine. I think they used flashlight to show hero in the darkness. 2. Blur technology is common but here blurring was used effectively to showcase ghost or hero-heroine scene. 3. Two mainstream heroes who had fame and stardom were used equally giving importance to both the characters according to me, and of course because they are my personal favourites Madhu sir and Prem Nasir sir. 4. The songs are super dooper hits by Maestro MS Baburaj Sir that I have heard but never knew belonged to this movie except for song in theatre where heroine does a show. 5. Ghost wearing white Saree has been given a convincing reason: Bhargavi falls for Sasikumar(Prem Nasir) who wears white a lot so she gave away all color clothes and started wearing white, which became symbol for female ghost in malayalam until now. 6. Intorduction of another legendary actor/comedian Kuthiravattam Pappu his character name is Kuthiravattam Pappu itself, who provides a lot of comedy. 7. Portrayal of idiotic person by Adoor Bhasi sir, another legend, which has been lend in many movies that came after this one to provide laughs. 8. A friendly ghost who needed attention, care, love and respect from someone and wanted to Rest In Peace after telling someone about her story. 9. A ghost who doesn't try to seduce men to kill them. 10. No bathing scene or anything which almost every other movie provides for viewers to stick on to their seats even if they fail to scare the audience. 11. Simple and pure love without much complications that provides good romance. 12. A ghost who doesn't talk at all but just sings. At least that is good. This too has become symbolism for ghost movies.

I hope you all watch this greatest of the great movies ever made and hope someday we will be able to see restored blu ray or at least DVD version of this movie.

Remakes remake
5 May 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I was watching this movie with high anticipation and I liked the start and all until the sequence where Rima's character tries to tell her husband about the incident and knock knock comes the police. This scene reminded me of Next 3 days where in Rusell Crowe dons the character of husband and Elizabeth banks as wife who is convicted of the crime. "Next 3 days" is even a remake of another french movie called "Pour Elle". I have watched two versions so I just forwarded the scenes in the DVD to check whether I am right. And Yes I am right and don't want to watch another version of same story. So I can't really tell about their acting, directing etc. Only hope it does justice 2 the originals. For the brave attempt and money spent in Uganda I rate this.

Angels and Demons Malayalam Version
16 March 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I had not seen this movie till DVD reached the stores. I saw this movie because all were hailing this is absolutely new theme and not copied from any movie. I loved the opening sequence and the theme music superbly done and executed , the frames had similarity to some PC games but well executed. The movie also starts exceptionally good. Prithviraj did justice to the character but the role of Mia was not actually required at all. I could easily predict the climax as it was associated to women and their husbands, wherein Sam Alex's brother's marriage or the fiancée is not shown at all. The hangings and execution were almost similar to Angels and Demons where the public hangings and message written in old language. Even the places where they are left forms a cross type format and this is also taken from Dan Brown's Angels And Demons. Except for the villain everything else is shown in such a way that we are able to co relate to the Dan Brown's novel. The Direction part is done well. I wrote this review just to bring into movie lover's notice that there are lots of INSPIRED(as they like to call now) portions from Dan Brown's Angels And Demons.

Man of Steel (2013)

Solid Steel movie
14 June 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I had huge expectations about this movie because of the facts such as 1. Christopher nolan being producer 2.trailer and 3.new guy as superman looked pretty good and because of these factors I ran to the cinemas even with cold. Even though I had fear about ZAck Snyder as I didn't like watchmen but his other movies were exceptionally good. The direction was too good with movie clinging onto the present and going back to the past at the appropriate time. Kevin costner was absolute treat as he portrayed father figure very neatly and he provided for most touching scene "By making sign statement to Clark (not to save him and show off his powers in public) just moments before he was sucked into the tornado. I never expected Diane Lane to work up the mother figure, but she too handled it exceptionally good. Cavil's portrayal of SM was absolutely delightful for eyes. Russell crowe even though had glimpses and here left a noticing mark on the movie just with his presence. Zod figure(Shannon) was extremely good. I had to give this movie 8 out of 10 only for the fact that too much exaggeration in part of destruction happened. They demolished entire city to save the people(so how many did actually die). The music part handled by Zimmer's was top notch for the situation and the CGI guys need a loud round of applause. Some critics say HUMORLESS movie, but I say we expected ACTION movie and WE GOT IT. For a superhero movie we don't have to expect HUMOR we expect ACTION, if it's not provided it would have been humor to say we watched action movie without any action at all. And the ending was good Lewis did actually identify Clark, if she couldn't identify Clark just because he wore a specs then it would have been humorous and awkward. All the old characters were given new modes and means which makes me so happy.

The Words that talk
16 May 2013
Warning: Spoilers
This movie brought in several aspects of life. From writers plight to Paris beauty to US's life to emotions that vary from one person to another. The movie had the pace, beauty and above all the best way to tell a story inside a story. Dennis Quad,Zoe,Bradley and Jeremy Irons puts in their best performances to the stage. The best quote I remember is "In life we all make choices but the hard part is living with it". The movie makes us see a new perspective of people who live, aspire, dreams to become somebody and for that the choices they make or sacrifices they do can never be got back. Here in this movie Rory made choice of leading a life of lie, the old man chose to sacrifice his woman for words and finally when he understood he made bad choice he lived with it,without saying out loud he did create the story and that Rory stole it. The movie has inspired me a lot.

A Thousand Words (I) (2012)

A dumb humorous movie
15 May 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I watched this movie because I felt it might be kinda like Liar,Liar but this movie was entirely different from liar liar but made me realize that it resembled 14 going on 30,change up,freaky Friday and lots of other movies. The movie plot had 1 basic boring element that he speaks why can't he carry a notepad and write most of the things, OK sometimes events comes up and he can talk. The humors are really good and way people don't look into their best gifts(family) have been given in a good way. Anyways humor is good watch it just to take some time off from heat, pressure and boredom. The introduction of Sanji guy was good because he looked pretty good in Indian clothes, indirectly it shows the effect of yoga and meditation.

Karma Yodha (2012)

Taken's worst copycat
6 May 2013
Warning: Spoilers
If you have seen "Taken" movie where Liam Neeson's character searches for his daughter and finds her before she gets sold to some arab guy within 48 hours. Then you need to see this movie which is the worst copycat and degrading version of Taken. To compare let me tell you in taken a guy goes with the girls and gets the address of the girls then they are abducted, drugged and finally sold in the markets and here in KARMA YODHA school colleague gets her number they trap her, drugs her then transports her to international market and virginity plays vital role in both movies. Major Ravi instead of making a pure copycat implemented some things here and there to make it look genuine. Not only that he also made people act in the most ridiculous way and which was too much boring to see. Rajeev Pillai, The villain and other actors are so convincing in portarying the most ridiculous actors. Major Ravi please take this as a MAJOR advice and go some MAJOR jobs somewhere else. Let the people have MAJOR parts of their lives with themselves and don't destroy the MAJOR parts of our common sense by making more movies like these. You should have stopped making movies after your first movie, the MAJOR portion of your movies I had to fast forward because it was that nauseating.

A Dark Truth (2012)

Reason for underrating
18 April 2013
Warning: Spoilers
The movie is underrated, maybe you have seen some moments similar to this in other movies, but this movie is trying to WAKE US->MAKE US->LEAD US- >HELP US understand that privatization should be limited and some things can be bought but not all are for sale. Even in my place there had been moves to Privatise Water, it hasn't been successful yet (Kerala,India). And hope it doesn't end up that way. This movie had all the potentials to gain stardom, but might have been brought down and not given much importance by huge profit makers from natural resources. Andy Garcia and Whittaker has shown great talents and even the Kevin's character I liked when he flipped sides, that was an awesome take and never expected such a twist. Hope movies like this gets more appreciation and more fame in the future.

Arundhati (2009)
8/10
A good entertainer
4 March 2013
I watched this movie because it got dubbed into Malayalam and was shown in a TV channel. I don't like watching dubbed version but a few minutes into the movie I was taken back so took the original version(Telugu) and watched it. I wasn't a fan of Anushka before but after watching this she is one of my favorite. She made Jejamma and Arundhathi character look so royal and at the same time respectable. Sonu sood's villain character even was also simply superb except for annoying "ya aye" type of dialogs which was not needed. CG effects team also did a fabulous job in making it look more realistic. Even though there are lots of gimmicks taken from foreign and other movies I felt it also good (scenes like poltergeist effects, demon being slayed, drumming scenes from Chinese movie forgot name, demon on walls etc). Also the scenes where Arundhati dances to kill villain and then wears same dress during the end reminded me of the "manichitrathaazhu" original version of chandramukhi where Shobna did fabulous job. Anushka is simply superb in Saree, she is the ultimate gulti on screen.
