Paradox Lost (2021)
Interesting film just expected a bit more on its conclusion
It was a reasonably good film that kept to gripped all through wondering if they were going to find out what was going on.
But then it got to about four minutes before the end and I wondered how are they going to finish this in such short time.
It was a very abrupt ending and you were left wondering did he get out of the paradox by going through the doors, were the lobster people his wife referred to the ones that had been killing people all along, was his wife indeed a time traveller herself?? Or was he still in the paradox? You so thought all the way through him and his son were going to solve the puzzle... But then it just ended - could really do with a paradox lost 2 to explore what happens to him and his wife going forward. Are they in a totally different timeline with lobster people, does he ever get back to the correct time line??
Die Wolf-Gäng (2020)
Great movie if you enjoy Harry Potter
As I was watching this movie I got more and more aware there were so many similarities to Harry Potter and the Sorcerers/Philosphers Stone.
I understand there are a number of films that have similar ideas of magic to Harry Potter but this seems to repeatedly hint at HP throughout.
A stone that can bring about the return to dark times if the evil guy gets hold of it.
A caretaker that is similar to Mr Filch (but not as mean)
Three children getting together - the main character, one a ginger haired werewolf and the other a girl - very similar to Harry, Ron and Hermoine.
Going through a dangerous forest to access the school/town (Forbidden Forest)
A dog guarding the Forbidden Library (like Fluffy guards the room to the Sorcerers Stone - and a forbidden library like "The Restricted Section").
If you like the Harry Potter films I'm quite sure you'll enjoy this and see so many similarities!
The language in the show has been dubbed to English and watching the lips you can see the mouths not always following the words, also there are a number of times in the show where there are signs on buildings and rooms in what appears to be Dutch (Verboten Bibliotheek for example - Forbidden Library) but overall it's a good film.
Tomorrowland (2015)
Very good film - very spy kids vibe to it...
I was volunteering at the local community cinema today and got the chance to show this.
In the past I've watched all four of the Spy Kids movies and thoroughly enjoyed them.
Whilst projecting it I also got to see the film and was surprised as to how similar the film is to Spy Kids. I actually thought when watching it did Robert Rodriguez have something to do with this, but thought it's strange as this is a Disney movie, and Robert Rodriguez does Spy Kids under the Troublemaker Studios brands.
As I can see from the credits it certainly doesn't have anything to do with Robert Rodriguez, but I'm quite sure if you enjoy any of the Spy Kids films this will be right up your street.
It does have a number of differences that make it different from Spy Kids, but it certainly does incorporate much of the tech and I could have sworn two of the main kids in the film look so similar to Carmen and Juni Cortez too even though they are different actors.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)
Superb film - best seen in a cinema...
This is one of those cult films.
OK the actual story of the film isn't really that original as it's very similar to Frankenstein
Couple break down Couple enter creepy house Couple find some mad doctor doing mad experiments Doctor creates human being Doctor goes mad and kills his new creation and attempt to kill everyone else Doctors servants turn on Doctor and kill him
However the music in the show is really good and catchy. Some of the tunes aren't too good like the Sword of Damocles but there are certainly more good songs in it than bad.
Also the main thing that makes the Rocky Horror special is going to see it in a theatre or cinema. If you've never done this - do it! the film is only just about all right when you watch it in your own home.
But turning up to a theatre or cinema and finding most people in some kind of cos-play dress from the show - loads of frank-n-furters in stockings and suspenders, people dressed as Brad and Janet, and many others. It really does add to the effect.
The whole show is geared around audience participation, which there isn't any other film I know of that expects the audience to shout words out at the characters, or decorate the theatre in rice, confetti, water. Forget Dolby 5.1 in the theatre when you see this you get full interaction, the feeling of rice going over you at the wedding scene, the rain and the newspaper to protect you, the noisemakers when Frank is about to unleash his creation, the party poppers for when Frank-n-furter is coming, and of course the chance to get up and dance around to the Time Warp.
It really does make this film unique.
Repo! The Genetic Opera (2008)
If Circus of Horrors did a movie this would be it!
This film is amazing. An amazing horror opera, in the UK we have a Circus by Dr Haze that does a tour called Circus of Horrors. This movie is so strange as it is so very similar to the Circus of Horrors show, and even the grave robber has a similar attitude to Dr Haze, the undead ringmaster of Circus of Horrors. I thought it was Dr Haze so much that I checked the corrects and was so surprised that it wasn't actually Jon Haze.
Simply amazing, some bits of the film have a similar story line to Bioshock where the grave robber is getting the chemical from the bodies, same way as the Big Daddy's in Bioshock that harvest Eve from the bodies.
It is strange to see this number of different shows all mixed into the movie, plus the opera side of it is really well done, it's very dark, and modern opera which makes it really good. Very similar to Phantom of the Opera with some good songs in there. The songs sound really amazing if you are watching the show with a Dolby 5.1 surround sound set up as some parts of the music are overlaid and the different words that the different actors are singing can be very clearly heard with Dolby 5.1, but without I presume it would sound very flat and mixed.
I watched it on Blu-Ray playing through my PS3, on my Pico Projector, with a Kenwood Dolby 5.1 surround sound set up and it sounded and looked superb.
Grange Hill (1978)
Classic TV show - should be brought back...
The BBC in my opinion have totally lost the plot over the last few years, cancelling such classic TV shows like Grange Hill, Byker Grove, TOTP and even losing Neighbours to Channel 5 (although I wasn't a great fan of Neighbours though, so I was glad to see that one go!).
The director general of the BBC should be sacked for the mess he's made over the past few years of what was regarded as such a high class institution, but has now gone right down in society, with the best new rubbish they can come up with is idiots like Jonathan Ross. I bet most of these top shows were axed just so they could pay this idiots wages (and then look what he does). I certainly don't agree that the BBC should have just suspended Rossy, they should have fired him, if the BBC had fired him the only job he would have got after his lewd comments would have been doing stand-up in front of a private audience as no other company would take the risk to re-employ him.
The BBC need to stop and look at the mess they are making and to bring back shows such as Grange Hill which helped school children understand various things in school life. I only wish that they had covered Asperger's on Grange Hill a little earlier as I went through school with Asperger's and ADHD and most of the kids around me didn't understand me at all. Where as now thanks to Grange Hill covering this it seems that quite a lot of young people are fully aware of Asperger's and show some understanding towards the problems faced.
Why Don't You Just Switch Off Your Television Set and Go and Do Something Less Boring Instead? (1973)
Why Don't You was really funny
I always remember Why Don't You and how funny it was. One of the best bits was with Ben and the Exploding Milk in the Caerdydd gang, and then he went and did a bit with the Liverpool gang. Does anyone know did he ever do anything more in acting after that or was Why Don't You the end of his career. It would be so funny to see him in a film now or something. I was one of the people that applied for the Why Don't You information pack, I don't know whether I've still got it, but I've still got the stickers that were included in the pack, I stuck them to my chest of drawers and they are still there (a little bit faded now). Some other kids channel like Discovery Kids should bring back this show, I think the best thing about it was it's regional diversity, the way they went from various regions in the UK, I think most of them seemed to be picked primarily for their accent 'cos you had the Liverpool gang, the Newcastle gang and the Caerdydd gang all with very strong regional accents which gave a great sense that the BBC were doing stuff regionally, and not just all from London.
Tropic Thunder (2008)
Worst comedy film I've ever seen....
I went to see this film as I noticed it had Jack Black in it, and I thought he was so funny in things like Empire Records, and School of Rock, (and also in Tenacious D - some of his music vids are superb like Tribute). But then I go and see this and I am seriously let down. I expected Jack Black to be totally off his head proper rock-n-roll style, going in attacking the enemy in a proper rock-n-roll style like he did in School of Rock, but for most of the film Jack is pretending to be a stoned out actor, that can't concentrate on anything but drugs for more than five seconds. There was one or two funny bits in the film, like the Panda scene, the bat scene and the bit where Jack is going cold turkey and is tied to the tree, but the rest of the film was the most boring load of rubbish I've ever seen. All the actors were supposed to be actors from rubbish movies, making a rubbish movie that turns out really good, but this film just makes really good actors look really rubbish. Possibly the worst scene in the whole film was the Forrest Gump bit where they make fun of Forrest Gump, I think that could have been so much funnier if Jack Black had been doing that and it had been about someone who was ADHD, 'cos then Jack Black could really have gone off on one in his usual hypo style. I also found that Forrest Gump section very insulting towards people with disabilities, I have Asperger's and ADHD and found it really poorly done, without any consideration for people watching the film who have learning disabilities.
After seeing this film it certainly has put me off going to see any of Jack Blacks other films.
RocknRolla (2008)
Great film...
Just went to see this film in the cinema on Tuesday. What a really good film, I haven't watched any of the other films like Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels as the advertising for them was a bit poor. But RocknRolla sounded really interesting. I tried numerous times to ask my mate to come with me but instead on that night we decided to go and see Tropical Thunder, the main reason for that choice was that the cinema in Warrington was only showing RocknRolla at 21.50 which was a bit late to go and watch a film. I ended up going to see RocknRolla in Cheshire Oaks and it was superb, far better than Tropical Thunder (well it wouldn't have took much!) Anyway I have a question about the film I wonder if anyone can answer, it also has a bit of a spoiler in it.
In the movie when One-Two goes to see Tank, Tank is sat in the car watching a DVD commenting on how good the remake of the film is on DVD. Does anyone know is that a genuine movie or is it just a random bit of acting they've stuck in there? and if it is a genuine movie which one is it?
