Season 2
2024anime-008(4/7/2024)
No matter how serious the plot becomes, this work never forgets to throw in a gag. Even the villains end up becoming endearing after being unreasonably defeated by Mash, which is quite mysterious. It seems that the charm of the other characters is also enhanced due to the existence of a 'bug' character like Mash. The final battle was intensely fought, and it unusually had fewer comedic elements (?), making it more enjoyable for those who are not fans of the gag elements than the first season. It seems that the original work has recently concluded, so I think the anime will end after a few more seasons, but I look forward to its continued production.

I watched it on "Friday Roadshow" as it was its first terrestrial broadcast. It had been released during my exam period when I couldn't go to the movies, so this was my first time seeing it. I watched it without much prior information, so I enjoyed it as it was a bit different from what I had expected. In "Weathering with You," the previous movie made by Makoto Shinkai, the director, there was some criticism regarding the characters' selfishness, but I think this aspect was improved in this movie. Suzume did act in a way that could be seen as selfish from a human perspective though. Nowadays, with frequent earthquakes both big and small in the real world, the content is sensitive, but the movie is of high quality, so I definitely want various people to see it.

At first, I wasn't entirely captivated, but before I knew it, it had become one of my all-time favorite works, something I deeply cherished. I hadn't read the original work, but the battle scenes are beautifully animated and simply the best. Each character is distinct and well-developed, making it a truly engaging work from start to finish. I hope the second season is produced soon. I've also started buying the manga diligently. While the First-Class Mage Exam arc was certainly interesting, my favorite part was undoubtedly the few episodes where the four of them, including Zain, travel together. I think those episodes were the best crafted. The addition of Zain to Frieren's characteristic encounters of once-in-a-lifetime moments created an indescribably perfect atmosphere.
