Red Eye (2024)
So cheesy but loved it!
We really didn't want to enjoy this but ended up binging watching it and really loving it. The script was pretty basic not going to lie there. The plot was totally implausible at times and we predicted everything that unfolded pretty early on but was just enjoyable. The more we watched the more we just rolled with the above and loved it. At parts i was genuinely quite scared or couldn't watch and other times laughing out loud or feeling quite moved. The acting felt a bit wooden at times but it was an excellent cast so I put that down to the script. This is a nice little 6-parter and a great choice if you want an easy binge.
Saltburn (2023)
Loved this film so much!
Wow. This film hit all the right notes for me. New, geeky Oxford scholarship boy becomes obsessed with wealthy aristocratic socialite and attempts to integrate into his bizarre world - with some really dark and unexpected twists and turns. Perfect mix of twisted, funny, electric, horrifying and satisfying. The final scene was just brilliant! Great filming locations, solid cast, excellent script and fab soundtrack. Loved the social commentary and ridiculous upper class stiff upper lip which was both bizarre and yet totally believable. The acting was excellent and we were totally gripped right from the start.
Wreck (2022)
Genuinely loved it!
This was such a surprisingly great watch. Initially I thought it was just going to be another cheesy teeny horror but it was actually fantastic. The story was clever (albeit kind of done before) with great casting, acting and soundtrack. It was exactly the right mix of comedy moments, suspense and slasher. Harriet Webb's character in particular was hilarious and had some fantastic one-liners. We were gripped right from the start and loved every second. Watched it all in a one go and felt it got better as it went along. Satisfying, gripping, just the right length and very easy to watch. Would definitely recommend.
The Midwich Cuckoos (2022)
Wow genuinely impressed
I usually hate sci-fi but love Keeley Hawes so decided to give it a go and was completely gripped right the way through. Brilliant acting, amazing soundtrack and generally really compelling viewing.
Hollington Drive (2021)
Really dire
I'm a fan of Anna M-M and think she's a brilliant actress so had high hopes for this series but wow it was disappointing. We watched it all in the hope it could redeem itself but it went from bad to worse :(
I Am...: I Am Victoria (2021)
Breathtaking performance!
I love this series of mini films but this one in particular left me feeling so many emotions. Suranne Jones' performance was absolutely outstanding - I found myself feeling claustrophobic and, at times, tight-chested and breathless alongside her character. She gave such a gritty, real and relatable portrayal of one woman's desperate attempt to manage her deteriorating mental health. Just wow.
The Loch (2017)
Really loved it!
I totally get some of the complaints about this being a bit far-fetched and cliched but having missioned the entire series in one day I absolutely loved it! Was completely gripping and every time we thought we'd figured it out something new happened and we were back to square one! Yes it's quite formulaic but the script is excellent, the acting is fab and the scenery is stunning. If you want an easy going edge-of-your-seat thriller box set give this a go!
Death at a Funeral (2007)
Laughed the whole way through
This film was absolutely hilarious - can't believe we haven't found it sooner. Perfect brutish humour. I was crying with laughter throughout!
By Any Name (2020)
Terrible film!
How did this film get such good reviews? I can only assume the entire crew reviewed it ahead of the general public! The plot was awful, the acting was dire, the 'British Army uniform' was completely inaccurate - along with almost everything else in the film (what doctor is completely relaxed having been kidnapped by a supposed killer patient?!). We literally had our jaws on the floor as we watched it baffled by the high rating.
