This show is a hoot !!! I don't have much knowledge of the history of England but i wouldn't hold it against this show that it's historically inaccurate because it's a fantasy show with some added fantasy elements, which totally works for it. It is not meant to be taken seriously, it's a Dramedy with added comedy. And the perfect show to have the escapism i look for after a stressful week.
The first thing i have to mention is the chemistry between the leads because last few months, most shows/movies kept shoving the word "Chemistry" down the audiences' throat to establish the non-existent chemistry between their cardboard leads, as if them using the word will make the chemistry appear magically and look believable. I am gonna tell them to watch Jane and Guilford aka Emily and Edward. They were such delights to watch and the easy relationship between them, u don't see this kind of relationship on screen these days because there's always this power battle between the leads for upper hand but here, Jane and Guilford are playing at equal footing, no power play, two equals. Their banters kept me laughing throughout the show, the narrator also added a lot to those chuckles. And boy, the kisses between Jane & Guilford, they really put everyone into shame who have been telling audience how hot their making out was that they broke furniture. So, show runners, this is what sizzling chemistry between two leads look like, not the ones u have been gushing about, for example the guy who could have "chemistry" with table lamp, sidewalk as per his co-star.
My second favorite aspect of the show is the narrator. The narrator kept the show going with such witty, sarcastic and mocking commentary throughout the show, loved every second of it. Kudos to the writers for coming up with the dialogues and kudos, applause & love for Oliver Chris, the narrator, for keeping the show alive with his charming voice acting.
Overall i have enjoyed the show a lot, all the actors were amazing, can't gush enough about the leads for delivering such adorable performances, but at the same time others were as good. U will cringe at the cringey character, get angry at the villains and sometimes laugh at their woes, blush at the romance, chuckle at the jokes, which means everyone has done their job perfectly. If the historical aspect was removed and it was shown as the power play between noble families, with added Ethians, it would still have worked the same for me because the core story would have been same. So i would say not to go in with high expectations for a historical masterpiece, instead go in for a light hearted good time pass, and it shall make u feel less stressed to look for faults and grab the history books for checking facts vs fantasy. Just roll with it and u will have a good time.
(The cutting of two stars-- wasn't too fond of the cinematography, and some inconsistency here and there)

I have absolutely adored the first movie simply because it was quite relatable to modern day relationships, be it hetero or queer, the core was same. Even though movie ended in a cliffhanger, keeping the option open for Antonio and Luca to get back but also left the ending opened for everyone to give their own conclusion. But then came the sequel. And the hope for Luca Antonio getting back together was building to end up crumbled. My first thought was, why Luca came to see Antonio in the first place after 3 years? Why one bad review made him empathetic to sought Antonio out and take him to his shelter? He himself was in a relationship but still wasn't happy to see Antonio and Dario. The story was building towards giving them a happy ending with each other, but it took a different turn, so why building that hope for the audience? In a realistic way i could understand if this was more of a journey of Antonio to learn bout himself and understand his wants and needs better, only if Luca wasn't reciprocating and was being friendly, would have worked for me. But there was longing from his end too, which totally undermines the way it ended. Well, at least the ending was sweet, Antonio might be getting his new prince charming, though Dario was so nice, shouldn't have let him go. So again, what was the necessity to bring Luca in? This movie could have been done without him and the result would have been same, Antonio looking for new inspiration, buying the old bakery and finding his prince charming walking in through the bakery door. Luca was not needed.
All my stars are for the actors for putting on such great performances, just like the first time. The natural interactions between all of them is what made the movies more human. I have immensely enjoyed the character Dario. And thoroughly missed Denis. Wish the outcome was different and i know u don't always get what u want, but still, that little flakes of disappointment gonna fluttering around for sure.

My first thought revolving around this movie started with this line "I felt everything" which was after seeing the reviews on Social Medias of those who attended the early screenings, where this was the most common review. So i kept thinking, what's the feeling of "Everything"? How does it feel? Because the movie didn't make me feel giddy with joy, overwhelmed with emotion or huff with rage. Instead i felt cringe at places, less than the book which was a cringe fest on its own, then a chuckle here and there but i just didn't feel "Everything". So how did so many ppl feel it?
I would give it to the thought of this story. I don't give a damn bout if its bout Harry Styles or whoever. It's a very much realistic story and then made into a movie. The thoughts were in the right place and the double standard of the dating scenario does exist, and women have always been scrutinized if they get into a relationship, that too with a younger guy after divorce because in society's eyes, once u r divorced means ur life is over and u lost ur chance at a better life. That's where the line from the movie "Ppl hate happy women" does strike a chord cause it's a fact. And it's the opposite for men. It's harder when you have a child, so of course the child comes first for a mother before any other relationship, while the father can happily live another life with someone new and that's what happened in this story too. Also how Social Medias could ruin a relationship was portrayed pretty perfectly. So the thought process was in the right place for both in movie and book, but the delivery could have been much better.
Again and again, it's the same situation in every movies now a days, which is lack of character building. Usually it's common for book adaptations as there's not enough time to cram everything from the book into a screenplay. But it wasn't the same case here. There was enough time to build a meaningful relationship between Hayes & Solene, even if it was through montages, instead a huge amount of time wasted on checking fridge, tasting expired milk, making sandwiches. I don't get why Hayes was intrigued by Solene after one meeting? Because there wasn't enough in depth conversation for that to happen, but let's just assume everyone read the book, they knew this gonna happen, so, done. Seriously, they had two good actors who could have done so much more if the script writer bothered to dive a little deep as this age gap romance was not just physical, it was emotional and there wasn't enough banter between them to establish that deep relationship so fast!!!
And the BoyBand. Amazon went all out on creating a BoyBand, recreating Coachella, a performing arena for what? Show them in montages? Half the movie was montages and i do get why but such a waste of those fellas.
Coming to acting, the casting was spot on because both Anne and Nicholas resemble their book version but i felt Anne was a bit less authentic, almost like phoning through her performance. And in places like the first meeting with Hayes, i could feel she's "Acting". As for Nicholas, he's not a believable 24 yrs old from appearance, and the uncanny lookalike situation him and Anne has going, it's hard to ignore. Whatever acting appreciation he gained from RWRB and Mary & George, all went down the drain in this movie. Hayes Campbell from the book wasn't a dumb jock, he had an old soul with some depth (and a fetish to date older women). But Nicholas's Hayes Campbell was a dumb downed version from the book, almost like if his Jeff from Bottoms went to University. There're so many chances to put in some more conversation throughout the montages as Solene and Hayes clicked because of their matching intellectual. Especially the conversation about Murakami or him learning about her world through some art books so that he can contribute to a conversation. But director chose not to spend precious minutes on anything meaningful.
The thing is, this movie could have really been something more if the director, script writer bothered to add some depth, instead they made a cheesy movie with the phoniest performances from two dramatic actors, which really gutted me. The amount of praise was showered upon the director and the screenplay writer, and of course on Anne and Nicholas, i thought this would be the RomCom of the year. But, alas! Like every other movies, it has disappointed me thoroughly.
Though i would give it to the music, it's good and catchy. Even if Nicholas has tendencies to sound like Shawn Mendes part 2, it was a bit less in here. I don't fault the guy for agreeing to this role because it gave him the opportunity to showcase his talents but he really really disappointed me acting wise.
Also the press for this movie taught me how actors fake praise every aspect to sell a movie to the point where even audience also fell in their trap, hyped it and gave the misguided raving reviews on every social platforms and bully those who didn't. As if they were overcompensating with forced upon chemistry by mentioning it over and over and making audience believe what a groundbreaking movie it was. Wish the actors actually delivered what they preached !!!
So, is this movie "Feel Everything", "Oscar Contender", "I laughed, I Cried" good? Not much but its a time pass. U can have a movie night with the girlfriends and gush over Solene and Hayes and then moan over ur own life. And then forget bout it.
