When I first saw this in 1982, I couldn't stop going back to see it again. I have rented Cannery Row many times since, not only for my own enjoyment but to introduce others to it. Every one of them has loved it as much as I. One wonders when the DVD will come out. Cannery Row should be preserved and offered to new generations of viewers.
Those who pan Cannery Row must take life or themselves too seriously. Get over it!

I can not imagine why this movie has not been released on DVD. When it first came out I went to see it several times. When it is on TV I always watch it. Not only is the story and performance of Curtis great, the music score is memorable.
Director Sam Peckinpah demonstrates his ability to take a good story, and great actors, and turn out remarkably bad quality. Video at times is washed out by sunlight in an inappropriate use of filters. Audio is choppy and of poor quality. These flaws may have been the result of the copy procedure used by the distributer but I doubt it.
