Allu Arjun carried the film, but overall Pushpa 2 was quite disappointing. After the magic of the first part, I had high expectations, but this one just didn't deliver. Fahadh Faasil, who was set up as a big threat, was reduced to comic relief, and the much-anticipated rivalry between AA and Faasil never really took off. Instead, the second half turned into a family drama, losing the grit and focus that made Pushpa 1 so special. Even the visuals felt off, some of the effects were downright bad, and the gorgeous, rooted geography from the first movie was nowhere to be seen. On top of that, there were too many songs without any proper placement, and the item songs felt like they were added just for the sake of it. The runtime was way too long and you will feel the lengthiness as it fails to engage you, What worked in Pushpa 1 was how rooted it was, with layered characters and an emotional core. Here, the characters felt flat, and some were outright ruined. There's no real plot or arc for anyone, and the movie felt so fragmented. The last 40 minutes were pure chaos-over-the-top and disconnected from the main story. To top it off, FaFa and Allu Arjun had no proper face-off, which was such a wasted opportunity. While there were flashes of brilliance-like the CM confrontation, the police station scene, and the jathara dance. But the Tokyo segment, for instance, had no relevance to anything and seemed like it was there just to fill time. Sukumar, who's usually great at balancing mass and substance, seemed to lose his grip here. Overall, Pushpa 2 had its moments but lacked the focus, emotion, soul and impact that made the first part so special. It ended up as a forgettable disappointment rather than the powerful sequel it could have been. And turning this into 3 parts was so unneccesary.
I can definitely say that Srijit Mukherji has cooked in Tekka and he probably has extracted the career best performance from Dev. Best thing was hearing Dev cussing, it was paisa wasool for that reason alone. Rukmini and Swastika were great as well. The film jumps straight into the action and maintains the pace & tempo keeping us on the edge. And that twist, I seriously wasn't expecting it dayumn. The climax was brilliant and concludes the film perfectly. There were a few massy elements ft Dev as well which was cool. And the way it tackles several social, religious and political issues without being preachy was commendable. In fact the message of communal harmony was very impactful. The film has everything to become a blockbuster this Durga Puja.
I had fun watching Yodha, it keeps you on the edge throughout and balances the plot & entertainment aspect properly. Things keep happening that raise questions in your mind along with good twists to engage you. The action is top-notch and brilliantly executed, it's very cool to watch. It's well paced just like it should be for a film of this genre. Loved action choreography, especially hand-to-hand combat. My fav has to be the 360-degree one on the flight, it was awesome. The interval block was crazy, I genuinely felt the thrill there. And salute to Red Chillies VFX, who once again shows why they are the pioneer of this field.
Sidharth Malhotra impressed me a lot and left a big mark. He shows he has the persona and screen presence in him to be an action star. There were some moments where I felt like hooting. The dramatic scenes, the intense ones, attempted humour scenes, even heartfelt scenes - he did a good job, it was a proper Sid Show. And those little SRK references he gave were so sweet.
Climax kind of lacked the punch and there was some routine stuff towards the end for sure (which is getting too repetitive these days), but otherwise, I appreciate the overall efforts. It's a solid popcorn entertainer and nice enough for a good theatrical experience.
