Captain Phillips (2013)
True Trauma ...just amazing acting by all
Especially Tom Hanks. His portrayal of the life boar trauma was simply fantastic. We were right there sweating and shaking with him. So easy to believe it was all really happening. Just how they shot those inside lifeboat scenes is a mystery really. The motion, the closeness, the heat, the noise.
Of course at the end with Chief O'Brien as the medical officer...she and Hanks topped off the movie experience with such an award winning PTSD scene. Nobody could have even scripted those exchanges. They entirely real, even to some of the movie crew. Tom Hanks continues to impress me in all that he does. WOW.
Beck: Dödsfällan (2022)
Still good characters and production value.
Yup been a while. Nice to see the group again. Addition of Whilhelm adds a little Beck Legacy to it. Sure not as robust and complicated as earlier episodes. But still watchable story. Some good human current issues in this one. Ok I liked it. Bring on more. Thanks MHz Networks.
Need to double my review. Heck how without spoilers?
Ok some parts a bit far fetched but more than likely could have happened.
Also interesting to have some personal side story about Jennie. As usual makes for good backstory to fill in her character. I hope to see more of Wilhelm....in future episodes. I should check to see if is the same actor as earlier episodes. ?
Arvingerne (2014)
Complex Family Odd Characters Well Done
Ignore some critics like boomeran......they may not read subtitles. ...or ...well just missed it.
Nice to see known danish actors draw on their skills for variety of characters. Story moves along and some sneaks up on you. Wish there were some more seasons. There are a few other danish and Swedish shows with similar family turmoil. Some of the shots seem to remind me of the great Susanne Beir winners. Expressions can tell us so much.
I liked the whole story but especially the odd folks. Tryne was great...seen her in about 8 other movies and she was perfect in this one. Someone mentioned criticizing it as a train wreck. Well yeah the family is....a fast moving cone at that. Have fun.
Faux-semblants (2020)
Fairly complex, enjoyable.Hard decision.
Tried this because of Thierry Godard who I know from several French films, like SPIRAL. A good addition to MHz Networks. Story moves along, good child actor, who in fact brings out the fuller backstory. Don't really want to say more.....but review requires like 400 characters.
Heck, not wish to add spoilers.
The new detective shows some promise and obviously the guy she replaced was well liked, but went off the rails due to tragic accident.
See what you think about that?
Would have liked to see more episodes since they already had a nice cast, and cast of characters.. Maybe there are more. MHz Choice has some great stuff. For sure watch SPIRAL if you like gritty stories. It is a hit.
This one Copy Cat sort of sneaks up on you. Not sure where else you can find it. You are either a MHz world film watcher who doesn't mind subtitles, or you are a person who doesn't know other countries make great movies and happen to speak different languages? Really? You can go away.
Nourish the Beast (1974)
Excellent bit characters make a FAMILY
And a good ,if odd family.saw this 43 yrs ago..,Hollywood Telivision theatre...hope to see live again..or vid of live production.
The family, the mom reminds me of My surragote mom growing up, age 15. Odd npbut lovely, warm and mainly loving. Great.
Livvagterne: Del 8 (2009)
Favoite Noir with full characters
This one is nice and complex with great ensemble cast. Twists in plot that all makes sense. AND they are the Protectorrs.
All the other episodes just build and build. Always good backstory, real life issues. Somebody getting it right. This is good as UNIT ONE. Similar.
Nova: The Race for the Double Helix (1976)
Best Science Story of DNA
Very Well done. Jeff Goldblume and others. Moves along fast.
Pretty impossible to find. Have a copy from Arts and Entertainment channel from like 1990. They finally discover how LIFE replicates itself through magic miracle of DNA. One of my favorites. Contact your libraries and request they get it. Many have seen it in schools/ classes. The QUOTES at the end are exquisite, simple, beautiful. Like the whole film.
'Master Harold'... and the Boys (1985)
So Moving I saw it two days in a row at Seattle REP
Starts out slow...but slowly builds. The interplay of the characters is simply fantastic. The overall theme of LIFE AS A DANCE......is just exquisite and insightful. Still looking for a copy of this version, meaning with Mathew in the play. He was in Seattle for the live production. Saw it with Dan, a friend. We were so moved we saw it again the next matinee. The actors came out and chatted. They talked about many scenes but especially powerful was the 'spit' scene. During the rehearsals the actual spot was held back.....but at some late rehearsal it became real. For the actors and the crew that was a large moment...transition......sort of brought up the race issue we had right then in real time. It was quite a riveting live play AND discussion with the actors. Wish that production had been filmed. I do have a dvd of the one available on Amazon. Have had it for maybe 10 years. Can't seem to open it...watch it. Afraid it won't be a POWERFUL as my original experience. I will update with a review of that other version when I watch it.
If anyone knows where I can obtain a copy of these actors on DVD. I read that Danny Glover was on ¿Broadway? In it. Thanks, Brogan from Seattle.
After the Wedding (2019)
Why do a remake. Really,,a Susanne Bier film. What Gall.
Can you read subtitles? Susanne Bier original film is great. Those that are puzzled by the low reviews obviously don't realize there was an earlier film the original. ... No comparison whatsoever. This may have some Okay acting.... But come on Hollywood why bother..... If you don't know how to read subtitles then you're missing out a lot ....Good Luck with That.
For those I didn't realize there was an original I certainly recommend you seek it out.
Ne le dis à personne (2006)
I'm worn out. What a struggle, a good one.
Boy that seems like I went on forever...in a good way. Complicated story. Many characters. Lots of running, the guy's worn out..I'm worn out. Good film. Saw it free from the library. Wow.
I See You (2019)
Puzzle,of a movie....saw it till end to figure it out
Sorta slow at start. Fairly silly behavior....so just sat and watched till the end to see what was really going on. Didn't really enjoy it much. Oh well.
Crash (2004)
How can this be 7.8 average when there are so many long reviews with 1 and 2 stars?
Seems like there must be some kinda funny math here. Lots if 1 star critical reviews....hard to find the higher ratings in the long list. Puzzling math?
À bout portant (2010)
Well done thriller.
Great story line. Lots of surprises. Not sure why the low ratings? Maybe Americans just can't read subtitles. Stupid, you miss so much. Won't bother with the silly remake. Why can't they learn?
Gåsmamman: Avsnitt 1 (2015)
Story moves along. Quite a bunch of criminals.
Watched both 2 seasons of this. Fairly well done. Several familiar actors, cuz I watch a lot of Swedish and Norwegian Noir. The story moves along ok. Kept me coming back to see what's next with this screwed up family. Probably several places where the characters were in way over their heads, like lacking skills to use guns and such. Hoping Mhz Networks will add more seasons, like 3 and 4. Seems only 50 some people have rated this so pretty little known. Have fun watching.
Point Blank (2019)
Why another remake of a good French thriller?
I mean really...what is it with America's film makers? Take a decent story done quite well in France and slop together this stuff? Why bother? I'm not going to.
Kodenavn Hunter 2 (2008)
Good follow up to season 1.
Nice tight action. Yeah liked season1 a bit better, and need to see that for backstory of season 2 . Lots of good characters. Tense action. Don't miss the really interesting interviews with writer/director and Ane Dahl Torp included on the Mhz Networks site where I see most of this Norwegian Noir great programs.
Kodenavn Hunter (2007)
Great season 1. Now have season 2. Good!
Season 1 , 6 episodes very fast moving with good full characters...real people, real action, real emotions. Not sure just how to add season 2 here on IMDB. IT IS great too. Watching it on Mhz Networks. Vert well done.
The Unit (2006)
Easy to watch, mostly
Yes entertaining, lots of action. Somewhat unrealistic the unit guys never seem to get shot, even with machine guns, while they can shoot a pistol and get another body. Some of the Ryan scenes are just boring, but he's a bit boring anyway. Also I get a bit tired of the church stuff. Ok to mix that in but just not so much. I watched all 4 seasons, bought them on Prime. But kinda glad it is over...many episodes were just a stretch......
The Unit: Two Coins (2007)
Good story line, some fun romance very well done....
Until a very sad ending....I'm getting to like this show more and more.
Rejseholdet: Assistancemelding A-15/00 (2000)
Great full range of emotions.
Ingrid is just so a mess ....her agony is so well done.....all the characters in this episode seem just very well done. A great team and great story.
Rejseholdet: Assistancemelding A-16/01 (2002)
Good regular story
Very good story/case. With usual good characters Plus some hints at their inner workings. It is what I like about this show, the deeper psyche stuff of the crew. They seem fuller and more real. Human. Someone is doing good research and writing. Thanks.
Tjockare än vatten: Avsnitt 8 (2014)
Images do not match the series Please fix
Yeah first 8 episodes are described fairly well. But the images are wrong. Hope you can fix. It's a Nice series, both seasons,
From epic 9 on..things are ok
Arne Dahl: Europa Blues: Episode #1.2 (2012)
Complicated but enjoyably excellent.
Just a great group of characters....they are all challenged by the storyline....and relate to it in their various ways. Really quite a good and sorry story. I liked it.
Den fördömde: Fjärde fallet (2013)
Mostly hard to watch but worth it.
all 4 episodes or parts were a bit hard to watch, rough characters...or not hugely outright likable but by the end of each one...there were enough good parts of both the characters and the story to be really quite satisfying. SB is a fairly sad guy with several problems but I find I can somehow cut him some slack and almost like him. Certainly parts of him are close to tender. ( I guess I should point out that the acting is so real....I feel we are watching Rolf L...as if he just IS the character. So that means good acting right?) OK. The use of the tragedy of Thailand Wave disaster is a very strong device and plot point. I would guess the creators perhaps had some personal connection to that HUGE event or something like it. Very Powerful images/imagination. Good
Krøniken (2004)
A great epic series
Mom and I just finished all 22 episodes of this long story. Throughly enjoyed it. Nice story. Really good acting, super attention to detail sets, all the historical look and feel.,nice to watch the years roll by. I even liked the high in the corner camera shots..in the various rooms. We highly recommended this for those who have discovered works from Denmark, Sweden...with the more known NORDIC NOIR list like Borgen, Beck, Dragon, and Wallanders. Enjoy. Our box set got from Amazon.uk with the full 22 episodes plus Danish only bonus material...still hoping for some translations hints on that stuff. User ratings show only a few have discovered this....may have something to do with being Region 2 disks..we just bought a code free machine for like 50 bucks. Whoo Hoo!
