Inborn Pair (2011)
A little long but worth the time
I remember watching this series years ago and when I saw it on Netflix, I had to watch it again. I agree with other reviewers about the series being a little too long but that tends to happen when a show is doing well in the ratings. This series made me laugh so much. The arranged marriage scenario was common in Asian families a couple of generations ago and still exists today but not as common. Maybe it's because I'm Chinese, so I understand why Song Yi Jie and Ke Wei Xiang would agree to get married and the humor of their situation, but I don't think you have to be Chinese or some other Asian ethnicity to find this series funny. The main characters are well developed. I loved watching the relationship between Wei Xiang and Yi Jie grow organically. The funniest moments are Wei Xiang's attempts to tell Yi Jie that he loves her and the family dynamics/relationships. The brother, Wei Cheng, is such a lovable jerk. I took off one star because of the unnecessary length of this show. They stretched it out a little too long.
Reboot Camp (2020)
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in a group
"Never underestimate the power of stupid people in a group" pretty much describes it all. I know a lot of people that would participate in the activities in this movie, even the most outrageous ones. My ex used to attend Tony Robbins seminars, amongst others, when he was feeling lost. I can't tell you how much he spent on self help books and seminars before he was able to pull himself together. And it wasn't because of the seminars/classes. He got his sh-t together because he ran out of money and had no choice. Some of the characters you see in this movie will remind you of people you know in real life. Entertaining!
Tian · Huo (2019)
Ok storyline with good action sequences and decent effects
I was excited to watch Skyfire, the first big budget disaster movie from China, because I really loved The Wandering Earth which was a well done big budget scifi from China. Maybe my expectations were too high. The storyline was formulaic but the action sequences and special effects were pretty good. I liked the footage in the end titles showing how certain scenes were filmed. Sadly, that was what I found I liked most about the movie. We didn't really get to know the characters enough to be invested in their survival. Li Xiao Meng was the only character that was slightly developed. Hannah Quinlivan and Shawn Dou were the two actors that stood in the film. What really bothered me was the opening scene. For some reason, they decided to dub the mother's voice but the dubbing wasn't synced. I was watching it in Chinese and tried English to see if it would sync. Sadly, it was still out of sync. I thought it might've been my internet connection so I downloaded the movie to watch and it was still out of sync. :-( Opening a big budget movie with an out of sync dubbing seems like a very rookie decision. And... they misspelled "Director" in the opening credits! There was an interesting proposal scene in the movie, which I won't spoil, that I thought was unnecessary. Overall, it was an ok movie. I rented it at the sale price of $1.99 on Amazon so I'm not upset. Had I rented it at the full price, I would've felt cheated. I wanted to give this 6 1/2 stars but since I can't, I gave it a 7 based on the quality of the production and some entertainment value.
Itazura na Kiss: Love in Tokyo (2013)
So cute and funny! A must watch!
If you like Asian shows set in high school/college, you have to watch this series. I watched this and its sequel, Mischievous Kiss 2: Love in Tokyo, based on my sister's recommendation. She read the Japanese manga this series is based on growing up and has been a big fan. It's funny and heartwarming. I found myself laughing out loud and sometimes so hard it brought tears to my eyes. Great chemistry between the actors. I love the focus on family. There are Taiwanese, Korean, Thai and Chinese versions of this series. I've watched beginnings of the Taiwanese, Korean and Thai versions of this. None were as appealing or addictive as this Japanese version. Watch this. You won't regret it!
Christmas Getaway (2017)
Best Hallmark Christmas movie I've watched
My first Christmas movie review because I liked it so much that I've now watched it two years in a row. Love the story. Love the actors. Just enough corny moments. :-)
Highly recommend watching this if you're into Christmas movies. 100% Enjoyable!
